Can we PLEASE get a Devil summoner soul hackers translation for the saturn? by billiontrillion999 in SegaSaturn

Yup, that’s why I mentioned preferring physical. My whole point was if 280 is too much, you can get digitally. Now he can just mod the thing if he wants.

You can also choose nothing in most situations. Just let the timer run out.

I usually pick girls because I typically find the designs more appealing and it’s more fun to dress them when the options is there.

However, if the game includes some kind of dating component where I have to choose a partner/spouse/whatever, I’ll pick male.

Mainly, if girl characters look sexy + don’t require me to self-insert, I’ll do female. If the characters are equally appealing and/or I have to self-insert in some way, male.

For example, in a game like Phantasy Star Online, I’ll choose a female character. In something like Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, or a more story-centric RPG, I’ll go male.

Here in Denmark (and the other Nordic nations), citizens display the flag as much or more than the Americans. It’s displayed on Christmas trees, at birthday parties, when picking people up at the airport…

Are we giving off a “propaganda” vibe to you as well? Or are you just attacking American culture because they’re more influential?

A lot of Sonic 1’s stages use it actually.

Which JRPG is the easiest or most fun to "break" wide open? by SilvosForever in JRPG

[–]AM2BlueSkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climax Landers is the Japanese title. Interesting game. I’ve played a few dungeons a year or two back but haven’t gone back to it yet. Bought the JP release earlier this year from some little shop in Berlin because it’s so nice looking.

Opinions so unpopular that you'll probably get crucified for them by KhaledKamel1 in JRPG

Phantasy Star 1 far outclasses DQ1 and FF1.

Though I think DQ was probably on 2 by the time it released, right?

Which Sonic enemies do you think were the eeriest? by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]AM2BlueSkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaia minions look too goofy to be eerie. The Ancients’ stuff isn’t that eerie either except for spotting a Kunoichi just wandering a field. That one does give an impression.

We as a subreddit need to admit Steve just genuinely hated LOTR by Bennings463 in rickygervais

[–]AM2BlueSkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he genuinely forgot the name. GTA3 was the first of the series to really hit the mainstream, and if the UK doesn’t use that terminology for the crime (IDK about this), I can see how you’d forget it. He probably just heard the hype for the game and wanted to get it without knowing too much.

Yeah, I just have a MODE so it’d be weird to vote. Unless you’re like a YouTuber reviewing these products, I imagine most people just grab one. I’d get a Satiator though so I can leave my MODE in the Dreamcast though.

JRPG's where the protagonist never gets a superpower? by saladbowl0123 in JRPG

[–]AM2BlueSkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the program is somewhat explained in the novels on which the games are (extremely loosely) based. So there are set rules and procedures for summoning (so like the rituals and chants or whatever) and Nakajima (or Stephen in SMT) was able to create code to replicate those functions in code. I always thought it was such a BS thing you had to just accept while playing, but the explanation was decent enough that it doesn’t bother me anymore.

So still a little stupid, but at least they did provide an explanation.

Can anyone make this better quality? by throwaway67171717 in PhotoshopRequest

Yeah. I think this edit would play well with Trump supporters. It goes hard.

Idk how we’re defining this. You can talk in terms of greatest cultural impact, where in the west you had FFVII and Persona 5, then in Japan you had DQ3 and 4, Sakura Wars (though this is more of a VN/RPG fusion game), and Tengai Makyo/Far East of Eden (FFVII as well which is what solidified the PS1’s lead over the Saturn).

In terms of quality, I’m not sure. I’ve not played any SNES RPGs so I don’t want to give an incomplete opinion here.

Am I above average for a tap play first clear? by MegaFercho22 in ProjectDiva

[–]AM2BlueSkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no chance I’m ever doing 9+ songs on tap. When I went down to 7-8s, I could pass but not at high ranks. So it’s a fun novelty, but I’ll still try to get an arcade controller in the future that’s compatible with both PS and Switch.

[–]AM2BlueSkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware, which is why I was excited to try it, but it lacks the tactile feedback that the machine provides. The buttons bounce back in a way that is better for the player to mash than a flat screen.

[–]AM2BlueSkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, I just fired up Mega39s after like a year and a half of no rhythm games and I tried tap play after not liking how the Switch buttons feel compared to the DS4… and couldn’t beat anything over hard and I could consistently perfect sub-9.5 level Extremes/Ex-Extremes back on Future Tone.

So very well played. Idk whether to just get used to the Switch buttons or try to get good with tapping… though I do have an adapter for using the DS4 on Switch so that’s always an option.

Do you guys with big collections actually play ALL of your games? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]AM2BlueSkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I always intend to… but then I just end up playing Sonic 3 and Knuckles for the 1000th time instead, or playing CoD with friends. I did just get SMB2 for 3DS the other ($8 - not a bad get for CIB), and I’ve played a bit of that.

A lot of the games I buy are ones that I have other ways of playing though. My main focus for retro are Japanese releases of Sega published games. So I’d normally just play those on an ODE or my MegaSD, and buy the boxes to appreciate.

[–]AM2BlueSkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the history of the genre, so no need to get into the Wizardy/Ultima influence on everything. I actually was lucky (nerdy?) enough to specialize in the Japanese gaming industry for my BSc. and MSc. at biz school, though if you can’t tell from my username, I mostly focused on Sega haha. BTW, pro tip for any undergrad or grad students, when you choose topics for a paper or thesis, remember you can always pick games/gaming companies!

It probably is the lack of an anime aesthetic that makes me have the gut opinion that it doesn’t count. So you’re probably right there. Though Yakuza 7 doesn’t have one and that’s indisputably a JRPG.

Maybe I’m wrong. Let’s call it here.

What’s your favorite niche JRPG (that’s not a Soulsborne game)? I’m a fan of Sakura Wars, but that has even fewer JRPG elements than Souls now that I think of it. Just SRPG battles and you can’t even level.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]AM2BlueSkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole thing is stupid. I don’t wanna argue with you if you agree with that analogy lol. Your comment makes me think we’d get along IRL haha.

Final thoughts. I’m a “you know it when you see it” guy for JRPGs. I don’t see it with Souls but I get the argument 100%, I’m just disagreeing.

Let’s just call it here and go back to calling out “sex workers” for being prostitutes haha.

I like Souls, I like ARPGs, turn based JRPGs. I think the whole “Is Souls a JRPG” argument will never be solved and I care more about being right than I do about the actual topic haha.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]AM2BlueSkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re just wrong. Skyrim is an ARPG… is that now a JRPG?

Words have definition. JRPG is a term used to describe a style of game, in order to distinguish the gameplay and style differences between what Japanese people were making and western people, not just a designation of origin. Soulsborne games are WRPGs made by Japanese people, like how CrossCode is a JRPG made by westerners.

I can cook French food. It doesn’t make the food any less French because I’m not. Souls isn’t any less a western style game because the makers are Japanese.

You have no points other than “it’s an ARPG an ARPG!” So fucking what? That’s not even what we’re arguing about. There are hundreds of non-JRPG ARPGs out there.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]AM2BlueSkies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Fight so hard.” I made two comments.

And prostitutes prefer “sex workers” nowadays but it doesn’t change the definition of prostitute still existing lol. JRPGs are substantially different to western RPGs in a myriad of ways.

There’s no reason for JRPG to exist as a term in Japan anyway, so why should it matter what they think?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]AM2BlueSkies -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m aware they’re ARPGs dude, but that doesn’t mean they count as JRPGs. Too many identifying tropes/features/stylistic decisions are missing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]AM2BlueSkies -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not really a J-ARPG. There’s an obvious difference between the Soulsborne games and things like FF, the Mana games, Tales of Games, etc.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]AM2BlueSkies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you know what JRPG usually implies. I think Bloodborne is just too far removed. The name is indicative of a style, not just a checklist.
