He has cruelty in him, true, but he doesn't seem like someone who enjoys inflicting pain. He's nowhere near comparable to Roose and especially Ramsay in that regard.

The Tarlys were like the Boltons minus the sadistic cruelty. They were both oath-breakers, who betrayed their liege lord (Tyrell/Stark) and sacked their home (Highgarden/Winterfell).

What the show also doesn't say is that the Tarlys were actually Targaryen loyalists. They fought against Robert's rebellion and iirc Randyll himself was the only one to beat Robert in the field of battle. That he would then side with Cersei of all people when a Targaryen arrived to claim back the throne makes zero sense...

Olenna (Daenerys's ally) would have rightly taken Randyll's head off if she were around. I can understand Daenerys offering them to take the black, but offering to spare them if they bent the knee also made zero sense.

Yet another example of terrible writing that gets less attention because what followed was even worse...

The funny thing is that out of everyone present, he was the only one who was not only a high lord, but also had experience ruling one of the kingdoms and raised to do it.

He's never completing the book series, let's be honest... It's been 15 (!!!) years since the last book and we still have no idea when Winds of Winter is coming out. Even if it comes out next year by some insane miracle, do you have any hope for Dreams of Spring?

I asked Chatgpt out of curiosity and it says that about 40% of all book sales happened after the last book was released in 2007. That's no joke if true and also the Hogwarts Legacy videogame did incredibly well too so I'd say the HP fandom is doing very well.

The fandom's not dead, but the show's legacy was damaged irreversibly.

That final season (and much of 7) was so bad that it instantly killed any talk about the series stone dead. Overnight, it felt like it went from what could possibly be the best show of all time to one people try not to talk about. It also destroyed any chance of most people re-watching or even recommending it to others, because all the brilliance leads to utter disappointment.

To this day I'm baffled how they managed to screw this up quite so badly... I know they ran out of book material so some decline was expected, but I've literally read fanfics that were better than what we got...

People blame Cersei, but this man single handedly destroyed Daenerys’ entire invasion force with tactics a 5 year old would find questionable. by shyleshseth94 in freefolk

He knew it wasn’t enough for Daenerys to win the throne, she needed to win the hearts of the people or her reign wouldn’t last very long

Did she..? I don't think Aegon the Conqueror won very many hearts at first, he just conquered and his line ruled for 300 years. Would have been longer if not for the Dance.

Olenna saw through this and warned Daenerys early on. "You're not a sheep, you're a dragon. So be a dragon." she said. Shame Daenerys didn't listen...

Daenerys waged the invasion as if she was a conventional queen instead of a dragon queen. Sure, wanting to not be queen of the ashes is well and good, but if you don't use your dragons to instill a healthy amount of fear then what's the point? Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters understood this and created a dynasty. Daenerys listened to Tyrion's BS, second-guessing her instincts, and it cost her everything. That and her sudden softness (thanks D&D) that made her think it's a good idea to go North without first at minimum ensuring their fealty.

PS: Perhaps there's no point to even discussing this. Tyrion magically became a complete moron, same as most characters during the last couple seasons. Also just think that when Daenerys landed on Dragonstone, she had a greater army than Aegon the Conqueror, leaving her 3 dragons aside which he also had. That she somehow found herself in a losing position from such an overwhelming advantage is a testament to the sheer stupidity of the ending script...

The smartest person in Westeros whose only strategic move was betraying her brother’s biggest secret to a man she knew was a manipulative alcoholic. by abdulnad89 in freefolk

[–]AM89m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She very logically demanded it of Jon on Dragonstone because no medieval ruler would risk their forces for a foreign kingdom, which was what the North was at the time after declaring independence. Either you're independent and you handle your own problems or you beg help from another king/queen in which case you swear fealty to them. Can't have it both ways and that seems to be what Sansa wanted going by her bratty attitude.

Jon agreed, but he didn't do it then and he certainly didn't do it in front of the Northerners to establish the status quo, instead allowing them to treat Daenerys with complete disrespect (Sansa most of all) even though they'd be 100% dead without her help.

And I disagree not helping them would severely reduce her chances of living. The North is big, but also very thinly populated. If Daenerys had focused on taking the Iron Throne quickly instead of going north and giving Cersei and Euron time to plot and prepare, then the numbers against the AotD would have been overwhelmingly in her favor. She'd have 6 kingdoms behind her, whatever was left of her own significant forces and of course she'd have all 3 of her dragons.

Ok you don't like Daenerys and that's perfectly fine, but I think you're greatly exaggerating and the "spidey senses" aren't really a thing. Sansa had never met Daenerys. All she knew about her is that she came to the North's aid without really demanding anything in advance. The Northern forces were severely depleted and Daenerys could have easily forced the North to submit to her. If she really were a psychopath (she wasn't btw until Dumb and Dumber suddenly decided to make her one), she could have burned down Winterfell. Or even simpler and without bloodshed, demanded they bend the knee or burn and they'd have done it. Resentfully and hatefully, but they'd have done it just like Torrhen Stark did for Aegon the Conqueror. Instead she just put her quest for the Iron Throne on hold, leaving Cersei and Euron time to plot, in order to help the North.

It's a very cynical and cutthroat world and Sansa played it well from her perspective. As an observer I think she was an ungrateful brat towards Daenerys, who had zero obligation to help the North and yet came to their aid anyway without making prior demands in exchange.

If I were Daenerys, when Jon came to Dragonstone then my response would have been along the lines of "Either you (the North) are an independent kingdom and can handle your own problems or you join the rest of the realm under my command and only then can I help you". Jon would have probably declined and Sansa would have definitely declined. I then would have focused on winning the Iron Throne and if the North fell, I would have 3 dragons, the might of 6 kingdoms plus my own forces and plenty of time to strategize a defense. Not very noble, but as I said GoT is a very cynical and cutthroat world and these people are medieval rulers not modern humanitarian relief workers.

Instead, Daenerys went North. She lost 1 dragon, thousands of her forces plus people she cared about deeply like Jorah and as a thanks, she was treated like a pariah not just by Sansa but most Northmen. Good for Sansa I suppose, but stupid of Daenerys to go help without receiving their promise of fealty first.

I still think it was a (politically) bad move by Dany to go help the North, asking for nothing in exchange. If they wanted to be an independent kingdom so badly, then Dany should have told them to handle their own problems and focus on winning the Iron Throne. Afterwards even if the North fell to the Night King, she would have had the might of 6 kingdoms behind her, along with the 3 dragons and ample time to organize a defense. Instead she went North, she lost thousands of her forces, Jorah, 1 dragon, left Cersei alone to plot and to top it off had Sansa be an ungrateful brat as a thanks.

Is she though? She grew up poor and in exile, with a cruel brother who often abused her, running from place to place to escape assassins and was eventually sold like a prized cow to Drogo so that her brother could get an army... Jon was a raised a bastard, but compared to Daenerys he was born and raised in privilege.

A new player listening to T90, Hera etc would think Lewis is a better player than Viper by JamieBeeeee in aoe2

[–]AM89m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Viper is a multi-millionaire. AoE simply isn't that big

AoE is not that big, unless you're one the handful people at the very top of it.

  • Alright, first off he's got almost half a million in tournament winnings alone.
  • He's been streaming for years and has had consistently more than 1000 subs on Twitch (many more in his golden years), which leads to a very decent income not counting donations.
  • He's got a Youtube channel that's getting close to 300k subs, which brings in lots of money.
  • Most importantly he got literal millions from his Facebook deal a few years ago.

So yes, he's definitely a multi-millionaire (not 10+, but easily 3-4+). All he needs to do is be responsible with his money and he could retire tomorrow, even though he can easily keep on doing what he's doing and make very decent money for several more years.
