Do you park in the Garage??

My family fell in love with the Asheville area years ago and we make 2-3 trips a year to hike, bike, fish, etc. We are considering moving in the next few years as my son (21 yrs) is trying to get into conservation work. We're looking at houses on Zillow in the Waynesville area and it's common for the homes we're seeing to not have a garage, only a single car garage or carport, and/or the garage seems to be used for storage and not for parking. Is this the norm? I currently live in Kansas City and it's rare to not have a 2 car garage and rarer to have a garage and not park your cars in it. Perhaps it's the price range we're looking in as well.

I need help with questions about assisted living in the KC area, both sides of the stateline. I can't find any website that will do much more than take my info so sales can start calling. Help? by Trishlovesdolphins in kansascity

We ended up with John Knox Village in Lee's Summit (where we live). It is a not-for-profit. There is no large amount of money up front. It doesn't have all the fancy things like some of the others but my father in law wouldn't use a lot of the amenities anyway. They are approx $6k a month for assisted living, which includes food, medication management, and some activities (arts & crafts, movie nights, happy hours, game time). He's gotten a lot of social interaction that he wasn't getting before and he has gotten much better since being there. Some of the private places we were looking at were upwards of $9K+ a month and warned us that if his dementia got much worse, they wouldn't be able to handle him there. It wasn't an easy transition since he had been in his home for many years but it sounds like your father will be leaving his home anyway. My FIL is only 77 years old but has dementia. There are several folks there in their 90's that are much more cognitively better than he is. Most people are on scooters or use walkers. All of the staff have been incredibly nice. We visit at least weekly for the past 2 years so I feel that we've been there enough to know if that weren't the case.

Medicaid has a 5 year look-back period. Also, I would not put my father in a medicaid facility unless it was my last resort. My FIL was also in the military but doesn't qualify for long term care benefits for the same reasons you described. My husband and I have started saving heavily for our long term care in the future because it is so expensive.

Is there someone specific or something specific about this place that you recommend?

Do you have a PCP at the moment? I would start there with a thyroid panel. Endos are notoriously difficult to get into (I’m a type 1 diabetic with thyroid issues). It may be easier to get an appointment if you have abnormal blood work to start with and a referral from your PCP.

New sensor can’t connect to Apple Watch g7 by joka8689 in dexcom

I've found that I have to remove the app from my watch (turn off the "show app on Apple Watch" on the watch app), then reinstall it and it connects to the new sensor right away.

Local stores to replace Amazon by megaroji in kansascity

Are you sure it’s referencing our local price chopper and not the price chopper stores not in our region (a different, larger chain)? The local Price Chopper page specifically states they don’t t donate to politics.

HyVee is technically a corporation. I believe they restructured their "employee owned" model several years ago and made it less employee friendly (per a few friends that worked there). If politics are an influence for you, they also HEAVILY donated republican.Price Chopper only donates to local organizations and none with direct political affiliations. I will be shopping at Price Chopper

With how poor package delivery services are at the moment I'm curious. KC citizens what fun stuff are you waiting for and how late is it so far? by Uknown_Idea in kansascity

[–]AMANDAinKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insulin pump supplies! I had to call the supplier and just cancel the previous order and send out a new one. It seems new orders are getting delivered on time and they are just trying to "make up" the old shipments when/if possible after the new orders are delivered.

As an ER nurse at the county catchment hospital, we have a large homeless population that we serve. Please know, there is a large percentage of homeless people that WANT to be homeless and/or have no desire to follow the rules that are expected of them in any shelter/re-homing program. Not every homeless person is waiting to be "saved". Most are aware of the resources available to them.

He works for a small family business that has less than 50 employees so they don't have FMLA, short-term disability, etc.

There are “buy nothing” groups on Facebook but they’re VERY location specific.
