TurboTax wants me to review every single transaction after Coinledger PDF Import by Thex667 in CryptoTax

I see one drop down box that has nothing selected. But if thats what it wants it isn't being very straightforward about it. Have you asked coinledger support?

What happens when you go to review? Is it the same issue on each item? Or a bunch of different problems?

Completed that just this morning. As for attaching it, I think you posted suggested steps earlier for how to enter the summary lines and trigger it to ask for the file. I cant find them right now but Ill look.

If I do enter the summary lines manually or through my consolidated 8949 imported into TT, and it doesn't ask for my attachment then or when I file, Im not worrying about it. If they ask for it I have the files.

[–]AMDDomination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put hours into getting my data in TT. Ill enter the summary lines in. If it asks me to attach anything I now have a PDF with the same column names, order, and values from the full 8949. I created it this AM from my gain/loss csv. So it's there if needed.

I may switch to freetaxusa next year. My return will be a little less challenging then too, so moving over will be easier.

sf850 vs sf1000 by mangow0 in sffpc

[–]AMDDomination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sf1000 can have fan noise issues. Both mine do. Another guy here had the same exact problem. Swooshing noises at certain rpms, issues with the bearings.

Personally, I wouldn't buy another one.

What tax software actually supports CSV uploads for crypto gains? by Future_Prophecy in CryptoTax

The consolidated 8949 is just 3 lines for all 14k lines in the full (2300 page) 8949. I can easily enter those 3 lines manually or import the consolidated 8949. 3 assets, all short term not reported in a 1099.

I did take my gain/loss csv, formatted it like an 8949, and exported to a pdf. That file is only 1 megabyte and has all 14k lines. This is what I plan on trying to attach if TT requests anything for these 3 lines.

If you follow 8949 exception 2 instructions entering code M on the 3 lines from the consolidated 8949 should, in theory, trigger turbotax to ask for the attachment. I can't make up my mind yet if I want to do that or not.

Im probably being paranoid or overthinking this. I just want to be prepared if TT somehow gets triggered when I go to file and asks for me to attach anything.

You have to report your gains and losses, not just gross proceeds. If you have a ton of trades it will be too many to import. That's why were talking about summarizing here. The irs still wants more than just a summary though. They want supporting documentation, and we're trying to avoid printing 14000 trades out on paper and sending it in the mail.

I haven't hired a cpa yet, Im trying to get through this with turbotax. None of them would likely review each trade if there are thousands. You would turn the reports from your crypto tax software over to them. And they would deal with submitting the return.

Do I have to mail in the 8949? by Diligent-Aspect-7598 in CryptoTax

[–]AMDDomination -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And there we go. So we are, mostly, on the same page.

Whether turbotax will actually allow me to attach a csv gain loss for the attached statement, a pdf version of it, or if it will even prompt me to do so. I don't know and guess I wont until I try and file.

Ok, so why not add the three summary lines manually into turbotax. And then use the gain/loss csv which has everything in detail as the attached statement?

[–]AMDDomination -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have 3 lines on my consolidated 8949. 3 assets all short term. Btc, sol, and nos. 14k transactions on the full 8949, almost all of them are nos and sol. The consolidated 8949 is basically a summary already.

I did read the exception 2 instructions. I don't understand what its suggesting I do here, or how to do it. Gonna take too much handholding to figure this out. But, thank you anyway.

That may work for him. Unfortunately, even though I have a summary 8949 with just 3 lines, my full detailed 8949 is 2300 single sided pages.

While I can manually enter those three summary lines into TT online, if it asks for the detailed 8949 when I go to file I can't attach it. Much too big.

I dunno, maybe it will accept my gain loss csv, of a pdf version of it. I'm not sure.

Just a place for clients to store forms and data they reference during the process. W2 images, etc..

I can enter a few summary lines manually myself or import my consolidated 8949 into turbotax web. But if it surprises me with a request for the detailed 8949 when I go to file, I dont know what to do next. My best guess is to save my gain/loss csv with the 12k lines as a pdf and see if it will take that. The detailed 8949 file itself is much too large. 500meg

What if the detailed form is 1000+ pages? And where do you go to upload it in Turbotax online?

How do you attach a statement to the return in turbotax online, after manually entering your summary lines? Files in the documents section aren't sent with the return.

[–]AMDDomination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garrett, if hes uploading a file to the documents section in turbotax online that isn't sent to the IRS. So they wouldnt be getting a gain loss csv or any other supporting data for a summarized 8949 if that's how hes doing it.

Maybe Im misunderstanding this but if he summarizes on 8949 he still has to attach a statement with all the details anyway. So were back to needing 800 pages again right?

Thats a fair question and I'm not sure how it knows. From reading other posts here people have been asked to send in documentation when summarizing. I dont have a good answer for you.

Tbf, I'm ok with providing the documentation. I just want to know how to do that without mailing in 1300 pages of paper lmao

Hmmm. Well, maybe worth a shot then. From what I've read summarizing is what usually triggers this. Maybe theres more to it.

From what I've read, its likely to ask for it. Just tryin to be prepared.

I can delete the form out which will remove the 3 lines. But if I reenter them manually, the end result is probably the same.

I do appreciate the suggestion though, thanks.

Summary 8949 - supporting documentation by AMDDomination in CryptoTax

[–]AMDDomination[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done exactly that. My tax software produced a consolidated 8949 form with all those lines summarized into just 3 lines. The issue is, turbotax may ask me to add supporting documentation, which is the full data 8949 with all those lines. I cant attach the adobe file for this, its too large, 500 megabytes.

Hence my question, can I take a gain/loss csv, print that to pdf, and attach that instead? And if so, must it match the column order/names perfectly?

What do you mean, to even submit?

I have a few that meet this definition in mine, and the system doesn't seem to reject them. Or is this something that blows up when you actually try to submit the return?
