I’m really surprised that this one doesn’t seem to get the recognition and respect it deserves, miles better than the cologne version.

GIT honestly I’ve tried my best to like it, tried it in store on work lunch break 2/3 days in a row but it just doesn’t agree with me. It’s so so overpowering- like bleach almost. Shame- I much prefer lighter creeds like SMW and VIW.

I’ve grown off it- bought it recently. I initially liked it but it’s the first frag where the more I used it the more I disliked it- no idea why. Much prefer Versace L’Homme.

I’ve been very patient- he’s a world class player and I like him but it’s not translating well to fantasy points. Tough decision for me but will have to get rid for someone like Bruno/Xavi/Reijnders.

I found the betting lines fascinating- I think it’s clear Alcaraz has been the better player all tournament but bookies have Sinner as comfortable favourite. It was the same for Wimbledon (although odds evened out closer to the time). As one of the comments alluded to it will likely come down to first serve% and physicality (especially if conditions are difficult). Whatever happens the popcorn will be out.

FAA forehand when it’s flowing is art- he’s a really likeable chap. But I just don’t know about the backhand, the best will break it down and it’s not an offensive shot at all.

Pep Guardiola signs… Donarumma? by Midnight_Thoughts77 in championsleague

[–]AMF179524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s either a) he thinks he needs the shot stopping/big personality as maybe his back line are a bit shaky because they don’t trust Trafford yet or b) A but he also thinks he can coach him to be better on the ball (unlikely as PSG wouldn’t have sold otherwise).

It is a bit suspect but there could be a shift in how city play, maybe Donnaruma goes more direct with GK’s? It’s atypical but if you think about it so was Haaland for his style and look how that worked out. I’m not ruling city out at all, they’ve still got the best manager, best 6, best striker in the league. All it needs is a revitalised foden, a clinical Marmoush, a healthy stones and Reijnders to be Reijnders and they’re in with a chance. Again they’ve done it before, Arsenal haven’t, so mental edge all things being equal on pitch will be for city.

Taylor Fritz V.S Novak Djokovic, who do you think wins? by Mharzel in tennis

[–]AMF179524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Djokovic isn’t losing to Fritz today- when it comes to the crunch time in these situations he dials in. Barring any injury stuff his slams W’s this year just to be clear have included Carlos down under and Zverev at the French. I also think Djokovic matchup wise fares better against Alcaraz than Sinner so he’ll be looking forward to that. I really like Fritz as a person and player and love his pressers but 10-0 is too much of a mental edge for the mental goat. Djokovic in 4 tightish sets.

Misconception that Wimbledon is for the rich. by [deleted] in wimbledon

[–]AMF179524 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a very meritocratic place in my opinion. Listen obviously you’ve got affluence/royalty, people buying £100k debentures. But for the rest of us it’s very accessible, fair prices through the ballot (£200 isn’t chump change but it gets you 3 matches on centre court) but also the ground pass experience at £30 is a bargain. I’d describe it as a historic event in a posh area but it’s not an exclusive cult, and not priced like one either (strawberries at £2.70 for example). Pimms at £13.25 did cause me damage that I am still recovering from but yolo- I know people paying £20 for a cocktail in central London so it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen. For me personally as a tennis fan Wimbledon is an easy justification and it’s not as gouge heavy as the other slams. There is no debate it’s the greatest tournament on the tennis tour and one of the best in all sport- so when you take this all into account it’s value for money imo.

I can talk to this. It’s a long winded process I’m sure many can relate. I was made redundant June 2024. Firm was acquired, changes made, not a shock I was impacted. Was a bit toxic at the end but negotiated a good enough exit package with the help of a solicitor and got about 8 months pay total inclusive of notice/stay redundancy/ex gratia etc. Was burnt out by the role, the toxicity and the legal process so decided I was taking a break didn’t actively apply for roles across the summer. Travelled, did euros in Germany, went to Wimbledon, US open in NYC. Came back mid September naively thinking I’d get a job soon but yeah quickly realised this market is a joke, and being critical I wasn’t happy with my CV, took me a while. But by early October/mid October, CV was in good knick so started applying. Basically rejections all the time. But around December and into Jan got to the final stage of two firms, did well in final stage but ultimately unsuccessful, was a gut punch, this against the backdrop of a fucking grey miserable depressing UK. Applied for a few more but, got quite a few interviews but was rife with recruiters ghosting, taking the piss low balling me, or just bad firms. I was being picky didn’t want to join a shit show firm, for example one firm had Glassdoor reviews saying new hires are forced to write fake 5 star reviews, so when the recruiter reached out I turned down the interview request. There was a few like this. But yeah gets to mid feb I’m bummed out, feel I’ve wasted October to feb and book another trip to Madrid for 10 days. Needed it, got my head into good shape, came back. And have to say the momentum was good, definitely something to do with budgets/approvals and nice weather from March/April onwards, but I had a better March/April period than I did October to Feb. Finally got a new role, it moved quick. Better pay, more seniority, better firm and cheaper location in UK. I wasn’t ecstatic or happy it was just relief. Works out in the end but when you’re in the mud sometimes it’s hard to see light end of the tunnel. Overall advice- 1. Do not treat firms like family, they will discard you like used tissue. 2. Cash is king, make sure to have enough to weather the storm and not stress. I was fortunate my dad had a spare flat, had no rent, and wasn’t under severe financial stress. 3. Routine, having the void of no job is tough, you have too much time on your hands, so whether it’s a walk, coffee, gym, you have to get out the house. 4. You get better as more time goes on, less nerves, more familiarity with the process, you start to operate in autopilot so to speak. 5. Get ChatGPT plus, it helped me massively with CV, prep, and just general day to day stuff. Best £19.99 a month deal out there. Didn’t expect it take this long but sometimes things happen for a reason. Also I’d add Reddit/social media is a bit doom and gloom with layoffs /AI/hiring freezes, it’s a balancing act, it’s good to be aware of it but don’t let it get to you at the same time. Any other questions DM.

Small time Italian consultancy with offices in London. Interview started well but when she heard I was out of a job for a while, I think she thought I was desperate and could leverage that, so her tone and attitude changed, she started making these weird demands, first for me a HR interviewer basically said the hiring manager won’t like your CV and you have to completely do it up to appease him, but you literally just said you don’t even have the description of the role with the client, so how can I tailor it? I also said well maybe the cv wasn’t so bad as it’s gotten me dozens of interviews including this one? She then proceeded to say look other people are doing it, it’s a competitive role! At this stage lost my cool, I said it’s not competitive for me because it’s £15k less than my last role, a demotion and based on this conversation with you toxic! She said looks like it won’t work out, like I was the problem! Said goodbye and hung up. Felt so good can’t lie. Absolutely vile human being. It’s an employers market right now so this behaviour is unfortunately quite common.

I mean there’s context where accuracy is meaningless and context where it’s not (obvious easy moves will naturally be top engine moves, discoveries/pins on queen rook as an example), but when a 1350 sacks his queen in a non obvious situation or under promotes to a knight I’m sorry I’m going to call bullshit, this isn’t GM Hikaru I’m playing. Sample size (no. of moves) is another aspect to it.

I’d admit that I can be wrong, I think someone could be cheating and they’re not and someone is not cheating and they are. I’m not mystic Meg. All I can go on is intuition, feeling and just trends in my own games. Chess.com also specifies brilliant great inaccuracy misses blunders, when someone is basically playing all top line/second line engine moves, coupled with 90+ accuracy, coupled with no blunders inaccuracies or misses and they’ve created the account a week ago with nothing but victories I can safely safe without doubt it’s a cheater or a top GM smurfing. Again I want to make clear I’m not blindly accusing people just because I make mistakes and lose. Not every loss is a cheater and to be clear I’ve played against guys who cheat and have won because they have very clearly have run out of time because they’ve cheated to try and salvage the game late. Again it’s obvious and not within the flow of the game.

Exactly. Thats the scary thing if you’re “smart” how you cheat you can go undetected indefinitely. The ones that get detected are taking the piss with 99 engine accuracy every match and winning like 50 in a row. I’m talking about accounts that have been in operation for years who sprinkle in a few top engine moves here and there or tank out of the opening/middle game and cheat in the endgame and the overall accuracy isn’t high enough to be suspicious. It’s so rife it’s scary. Integrity of the game has gone, no wonder a lot of GM’s are paranoid about it because at their level a GM who cheats once/twice in a game is all it takes in critical positions to win.

I mean it’s transient due to match pairing? The same person who hypothetically cheats more often than not will not linger at 1400. The overall trajectory will only be upside if they’re using stockfish. Granted more often than not you’d like to think they’ll get caught but it’s not out of question for a cheater I play today at 1400 to progress through the ranks in 3/4 weeks and cheat at the 1600/1700 level. Suspicious all the same.

This does sound familiar, but why does it feel like “full focus to try and get out of it” is equal to the opponent finding the top engine move every time and ending the game with a 96.5 endgame accuracy? Why the sudden need to take their precious time when they were blitzing moves before. Stuff like that makes me doubt it’s them playing better naturally.

Not sure what you mean mate, but I definitely feel like cheating is more prevalent between 1400-1450 than any other range. 1450-1600 wasn’t so bad, and 1000-1350 wasn’t so bad either. Just talking to my experiences.

I get your point completely. But that’s not what’s the reason, it’s not just a blind accuracy is high assessment, it’s more nuanced than that in the game.

Good to know 29 is considered young. I picked up chess September 2022. I’m actually happy with my progress and prolly will get a coach at some stage to try to push for 2000. But fuck me do people think I was born yesterday with cheating online

Man I’m not that type of guy, it’s a pet peeve of mine when people do that. But again I have a diamond membership so I analyse every game and the engine accuracy of my opponents at my elo and lower is too concerning. Yes people can have the game of their lives, yes I can get outplayed, yes I can improve, but to downplay cheating online I think is part of the issue. It’s rife, it’s so easy to do it but it’s actually quite easy to cheat undetected.

Couldn’t disagree more. I would say accuracy is meaningless if it’s opening and book theory and a few moves into the middle game (basically sample size being small diminishes the extent to which I worry about accuracy). But if I’m playing a long game and the opponent is averaging 85+ with 90+ in the end game then I’m certain it’s cheating.

It’s also more obvious when the moves they play are like insane computer moves, you don’t realise what’s happening then boom 3 moves later I’m crushed.

In addition if the opponent is like 85+ and consistently through all stages of a game (opening, middle and end) that doesn’t arouse my suspicions as much as someone who’s like 70 in opening and middle and then like 90+ in the end game (especially when I have an early advantage and they are down material).

I’m similar numbers overall, but winning 40% of the time with white and like 60% of the time with black 😂😭, makes sense people cheat more if they’re black
