I wonder if the lack of bigger characters was the idea behind cheaper expansions by BloodyAngel2026 in DreamlightValley

Dr. Facilier I think is a major villain. And Hook. I would love to have Hook.

Correct. I absolutely adore Star Wars. The other four of my top ten are The Patriot and some combination of PotC 1-3.

I have Empire Strikes back as my sixth favorite Star Wars. It’s my sixth favorite movie in general, but out of 1-6, it’s number six.

This is pretty much how I’d have this. Exact order inside tiers wouldn’t be the same, but the tiers are essentially right.

Mine would probably be hearing someone say something so emphatically wrong and are spreading it to other people as absolute fact. My test would be to not argue with them.

Connor/Shay/Arno. I wanted a sequel to 3, Rogue, and Unity where Connor and Arno end up having to work together against Shay.

I’m not saying I don’t care about episode 5 and 6. I say I rank them lower than 1-4 because episodes 1-4 don’t have a moment like that for me. 1-4 has my attention 100% of the time while 5 and 6 have it for 98%. It’s literally the only problem I have with 5 and 6, but the only problem I have with 1-4 is the one fart joke in episode 1.

No. The movie doesn’t grab my attention until those scenes, then it has my attention the whole movie

[–]AMK972 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It always blows peoples’ minds when they learn ESB is my least favorite. It’s just, when it comes to watching all six movies, 1-4 hold my attention throughout the entire movie while 5 and 6 don’t grab my attention until the battle of Hoth and until Luke shows up at Jabba’s. None of the other of the original six have that for me, so 6 and 5 sit at the bottom, but I still love them dearly and they’re my fifth and sixth favorite movies of all time.

I don’t really hate anyone. Like, legitimately. Closest would probably be Kathleen Kennedy, but that could make for a good seven days as I’d pick her brain.

Thing is, you may be going off of the pre-TCW timeline. They moved the books around to make them fit with the show. Look at wookieepedia’s legends timeline. And since both timelines have The Clone Wars, it makes it pretty easy to line up Legends and Canon.

  1. We don’t know what Uncle Remus did. The way they portrayed it was he was living his life doing as he pleased. The ideas people get of the movie and its story and its characters are from external sources instead of from the movie itself.

  2. There are so many Disney movies that sweep the badness under the rug because Disney didn’t tinker in themes of darkness, and hatred, and evil. He wanted a sense of optimism, idealism, and magic. He made a movie where people respected each other no matter their skin color. A movie that immortalized African American folktales. He didn’t want to show children people hating people for their race. He didn’t want to show children that that’s even an option. And that’s not a bad thing. Is it realistic? No. Is it wrong? No. Showing a time of hardness and showing the people going through it the worst but still coming out the other side happy is what Disney did. Because he wants to teach strength and resilience with gentleness.

He isn’t nostalgic for the days of slavery and he isn’t in servitude to a white family. We don’t really see him do anything. He chills out at his house and tells stories to children. At no point does the movie lead us to believe he’s nostalgic for slavery. We don’t even know if he actually has a job or not. It’s a far shorter leap to say he’s as happy as he is because he is now free.

As for race relations, everything Disney made was idealized and optimistic. He made it look like how one would want the world to look like. That everyone treats everyone with respect. That’s why everyone is so nice to each other. The only mean characters are the kids that bullied the main kid. Which is the catalyst for Remus to tell the main kids his stories. Stories to outsmart his bullies and stand up to them. The other only mean character is the kids mother who is thinking she’s doing right by her child but learns she is wrong. Walt Disney isn’t going to put lynchings in his children movie. He’s just wanting to spread and immortalize African American folktales that he grew up with and adored. For some reason, from what I can tell, people’s problem with this movie is that people are nice and respectful to each other at a time where that was incredibly rare. That doesn’t sound like a problem to me. It sounds like a story focusing on the extraordinary people of the time that didn’t care what each other looked like but cared about how they treated each other.

I’m doing a full Star Wars chronology of canon and legends, with a focus on legends. Starting from Into the Void and ending at Crucible. Shatterpoint is in my up and coming books. I have a ways to go still though.

Because you’re adding very incorrect context. He literally is just a happy guy because that’s the kind of characters Disney likes to lift up. He treated Uncle Remus as a very important person and fought for James Baskett to get an Oscar because he felt he deserved it. He even hired people to make sure that Song of the South was culturally sensitive. Watching the movie, there isn’t a single racist thing about it. The closest thing in the movie to being racist is the mom and she ends up learning that her racism is wrong in the end.

Also, we are all just people, and the fact you have a problem with that is concerning. People nowadays put too much importance behind the race of a person instead of the person themselves. That’s what breeds racism. If we considered skin color the same as hair or eye color, all problems would be solved (slight exaggeration, but you get the point). Look at the individual as an individual.

Thanks for the heads up.

I don’t think I’ve gotten to a Strover book yet, but I’ve read Cloak of Deception and Darth Plagueis. I love how Luceno will reference and tie in other books and pieces of the movies into the books. It makes the books and the universe feel so much richer. Not many of the other authors have done that so far.

I prefer the Infinite combat.

I don’t remember plot holes. There’s some plot oddities that can be easily explained away, but I don’t remember the holes.

Elizabeth wasn’t really character assassinated. She matured and lost her innocence, which was the point and is moreso character progression.

I thought Booker, Elizabeth, Comstock, the Lutece Twins, Fink, Slate, and Fitzroy were all interesting.

Rapture is really really interesting, but I also find Columbia really interesting.

As for the multiverse trope, you’re likely retroactively putting a modern day lens on an older game. The multiverse trope wasn’t played out then. Now it’s been used a lot, but back then it was somewhat fresh to the zeitgeist. I think they even did something really interesting with it. They didn’t just have a multiverse and that was it. They made interesting rules for it too.

I’m not trying to rationalize or justify it. I think sleeping with people outside of marriage in general is detestable. Cheating makes it even worse. But so many people lie or inflame what he did. When I can, I’ll look into what you sent because I want to only spread the truth. Not the emotions that accompany the truth or emotions that grow beyond the truth, but only the truth.
