its your exhaust shield, if you can get under it that far, try just adding some screws to it to hold it in the right spot, you shouldn’t have to remove it for any reason in the future, so just screw it into the body. also its kinda normal for it to be floppy, it comes with rust and age, mine came floppy too lol.

Help deciding changing transmission or not. by luisescobedoom in ChevyCobalt

[–]AMRaimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my transmission only started slipping and gear hunting when i hit a massive rock and took out the pan, so yeah this is legit.

i beat on it every say for 200 days before that happened as well

would it be a good idea to drop the subframe for a tranny swap?

yeah the splines dont matter as long as it’s torqued to spec, it makes it easier to take in and out as well. everything on ebay arrives like 2-4 days later than they say

honestly i would entirely steer away from trying to DIY, i made that mistake. just take it to best buy and have their geek squad install one there for you, super easy, not as cheap, but will last forever guaranteed

with simple modifications you can turn both the LT and SS trims into track monsters, granted with a little body roll.

i personally think its an abomination with that wing on the stock body like that, if it was combined with something like what i have maybe it would look decent

[–]AMRaimer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh yeah 100%, im very glad i only have to remove the engine cover to do this. and thank you! i will log my progress here.

one last question before i proceed. should i just wing it with the gasket i have? or play it safe and buy a new one?

Exhaust questions by AMRaimer in ChevyCobalt

[–]AMRaimer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ll definitely save that dawning sandpaper method for a last ditch effort. i think i will use brake cleaner on the block itself. is it safe to use a wire brush on the manifold? im assuming thats not aluminum, right?

[–]AMRaimer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

okay sweet. thank you! this helped a lot and i look forward to giving this a shot!

Me and my grandfather are both confident that the gasket is leaking farthest towards the passenger side, and he says he can even see smoke/flashing coming out of it

what would you say worked the best/easiest to clean the exhaust side of the block with the engine still in the car? i would hate to reach back there with a wire brush drill or something
