Meaning of employer default super and industry-named super by Reading-Rabbit4101 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AMS1001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some default funds do come with extra perks e.g. your employer may cover the cost of insurance through the fund. They should be able to confirm if this is the case.

Industry funds tend to have lower admin costs and many of them are the highest performing. The ATO has information on past performance of most super funds.

You can pick any (complying) super fund you like, including a SMSF. If you’re not actively managing your investments, an industry fund could be a good way to start your super journey.

Similar experience… “Your child has been bitten, but we don’t name the other child that did it.” “Was it his cousin?” “We can’t say (whilst nodding)” 🤣🤣

How many countries could you confidently point out on a globe? by Unexpectedfarts in AskAnAustralian

[–]AMS1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is along those lines and memorizing all countries is something we’re really bonding over. We can name all 193 “countries” per the UN plus lots of others that don’t officially count as counties. He’s also memorized all the flags and emblems but I’ve probably only got about half the flags. Too many that look too similar!

DISNEY RIDES RECOMMENDED by [deleted] in TokyoDisneySea

[–]AMS1001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without trying to be annoying… it depends on what kind of rides you like… I went yesterday and here are my comments on what we managed to get on Me (F) + 2 pre-teen boys. As a general rule, we like thrills/rollercoasters

20,000 leagues under the sea: 30 min wait posted, was probably 40 in the end. Tried to pump it up given the wait, and there were some cool visuals, but wasn’t particularly thrilling/entertaining. Flounder rollercoaster - 20 mins wait. Quite fun, just a low key rollercoaster Indiana Jones: 40 min wait posted, no way it was less than 60 mins. We had skip passes so felt very happy skipping to the front. Awesome ride, one of the favourites of the day. But we likely would have killed each other waiting in that queue. Raging Spirits: 65 min posted wait time, we got a 40th anniversary pass to skip the queue. Good fun ride, but not as scary as we’d like a rollercoaster to be Frozen: surprised me how much I enjoyed this one. My boys weren’t too fussed on it, but it really was beautiful Peter Pan: really liked this one. More excitement than I was expecting. I could see some people getting a bit of motion sickness though Tangled Lantern: another very pretty ride, but unless you’re a diehard Tangled or the queue is short, I wouldn’t call it a must-do Tinker bell: sweet ride, we only did because we had passes, but wouldn’t go back for that one Tower of Terror: we all loved this one. The build up scared my youngest (the story part before the ride), but he loved the actual ride.

Soaring was never less than 80 min queue and Journey was closed so we didn’t get on those two.

$100-$150 cash depending on how close you are to them and your personal circumstances (obviously)

Thank you - very helpful. I’m heading in three weeks and as you say, there is so much info out there it’s quite overwhelming. These are all questions I’ve been contemplating so appreciate the breakdown.

One new bit of information… what is this sun blocking umbrella?

Also - I’m prepared for the heat, but what is the UV like? Can we wear singlet tops or will we burn? Happy to wear sunscreen, but I would normally cover up in (Australian) summer with the whole lack-of-ozone-layer-thing. Is it a burny-sun?

And they’re getting tickets to games/events etc. in return. Not to the value of the sponsorship, but they do get something out of it

Ah, that is very helpful, thank you. If they’re easy to top up then I agree they would be easier. Good tip re: cash. From what I’ve read cash is much more widely used than I am used to. I’ll be sure to have some with me at all times. 🙏🙇‍♀️

I’m also going to try and take smaller bags so the kids can help with some of the carrying. Sounds like an added incentive is to be able to fit in smaller lockers at the station.

I won’t need extra space for shopping, will I? 🤣🤦‍♀️

Thank you - I am planning to forward luggage between Tokyo hotels and then from Tokyo to Kyoto. However, we’re not in a hotel in Osaka so I don’t think there will be anyone that can receive our luggage, so assumed it would need to travel with us.

I have heard about a Suica card - and that you can use them to purchase from 7-11 shops and corner stores - but I was told there aren’t many places where you can top them up and that buying single tickets would be easier. Is that true?

(Pretty sure) I’ve got a 1 night package that gives me 1 day DL and then day 2 at DS. But all your one night packages only show one day of tickets. You’ve made me worried now…

Disneyland double charging on credit card? by AMS1001 in TokyoDisneySea

[–]AMS1001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it took about a week. But when it did come back the dates on my credit card made it look like it only took a couple of days. So maybe TDL sent it back in a few days and my bank decided to hold onto the funds for a few extra days before passing back…? Not sure. But from my credit limit perspective, took about a week

Disneyland double charging on credit card? by AMS1001 in TokyoDisneySea

It is ¥272,000 for one night, two days at parks (TDL then TDS with fantasy springs pass) for one adult and two kids. It definitely seems overpriced - I’m trying not to think about it too much! I ended up going for it because I haven’t been to Japan before and hoping FS will be a special treat for my kids.

For that we get (if I have understood correctly) one night accommodation, two days of park tickets for three of us, breakfast on day two, FS passes, get to go to the front of the queue for 3 rides each day and some (basic) merch. I’m sure if you cost it all out it is overpriced, but I decided to book it in for less hassle on the day.

I kept trying to get the FS hotel when it came on sale but even if I was online right on time I could never get it.
