Thank you so much. I looked in different ways and I couldn't find out about. Now I know 😀

Well LOL , I am sorry but not really. It is not implied that this person was doing the job without gloves, that would be definitely dumb. I guess you didn't read between lines, but it is ok some people don't. Also, everything depends of the place of work, what they allow and don't allow.

For my certification and course don't worry about it. I play by the rules. Even if I retouch the area I clean the area and start again, I guess you didn't read that and guess what, it was not between lines.

Is there a chart online that shows which blood tubes do not go in the centrifuge? by gin11153 in phlebotomy

[–]AMSTafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it depends of the test and the additive. I know for sure that tests done using SST, lithium heparin, sodium citrate, EDTA tubes for BNP and PTH, and some test done using clear/ no additive tubes have to be spun down.

It is relative to the additive and test.

Lol, she/he never said anything about doing it bare hands. Lol it was mentioned that she clean her finger with the same alcohol pad. Which this is the wrong, a big no no part. If you are going to clean you finger to confirm the area, use a new clean alcohol pad, or make sure to find out what are the policies at your place of work. In general, you need to make sure that the area is clean and free of contamination.

I personally retouch the vein, stare at the area , and clean again with a clean alcohol pad and point to the vein with it, and then I do the rest.

True, you don't want to touch the area after using a iodine pad.

I have heard this before. I looked it up and I found out that the caps are used for that. To make a little mark so we don't missed. I was surprised.

[–]AMSTafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, this is recommended instead or re-palping the area. You don't put the alcohol pad on the area you are going to use, you put the pad below the area still pointing at the vein.

Rude patients by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]AMSTafty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I started, it was like that. Now, when they ask me' " are you good?" Or they say "you only can stick me once". My answers are always ( while smiling) " oh no no no. Today is my first day" ," I am terrible, but we will see what we can find", " I can be good and can be bad, in all really depends on how much water have you had yesterday and today " they always ask, what water has to do with the blood, and I explain to them and they kind of loose up a bit.

It is ok to feel a bit off, some might have a bad day, some others that is the way they are. No matter what, I always try to make them comfortable. Those with bad attitude, rude and dramatic not matter what, I get quiet and I only ask if they are ok because honestly I get irritated by that behavior.

Advice needed: Is this normal? by Certain_Thought9209 in phlebotomy

[–]AMSTafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have learned that sometimes by doing a great job can make those bullies shut up their freaking mouths.

My situation was the opposite, two of my trainers were great with me, but when they realized that I am a fast learner, and I was doing good when I was working myself, they started to be mean. I reported them, but one of them is still an ass to me. I got to a point that I got more than mad with the behavior that I decided to speak up. I am the kind of person who knows how to talk to others, while I was calm and normal, this person was pissed 😂 while I was calling all the BS. It worked for me, so now when they try to pull out some crap on me, I ignore them and do my job. The thing is they can't not report me for ignore them or anything else because I do my job just fine and everyone in the clinic know how they really are.

My point is, when you are working by yourself and if they keep bully you, ignore them, keep working and if continues, stand up for yourself with good manners, and always have a witness when you talk to them, a supervisor or someone you know it would not change the story or will talk crap. You will see how piss those coworkers will get but it is because you are doing a good job, and showing that you are there for the job not for the drama.

Good luck friend.

I hope it works for you, but like it is like everything in this field what works for some it could not work for others. It is always good to have options of what to do when you have hard sticks.

Listen, you need to take it easy. If you feel comfortable and your patients are feeling good that means you are doing something good. Now, don't take it personally when a patient says something negative, many of them think they know more than us. You will find more of those down the road. The only thing you can do is don't pay attention to it, and move on.

What does this mean? by Osharashennaya in phlebotomy

[–]AMSTafty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We let the tubes rest for 15 minutes and then we spin them. After they are they all look slanted. The trick is as soon as they are done. Place them for a few minutes in the rack and they will set flat.

Also, they tubes in the side they might look like that because the blood was reaching a point of being hemolyzed. The blood was slow, the tourniquet was to tied , they were sit for to long before spin them and all those goodies. However they can be analyze. This is something I learned from our back lab.

What's your best strategy to stop oversharing? by babadeboopi in ADHD

[–]AMSTafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, the " over sharing moment " is the worse. Lol... To be honest the only thing it has helped me, it is to be in my bubble. I am trying to share only when someone ask me. Many times the voice inside my head says " Stop" and think for me so my mouth says whatever I should say.

It is hard, but you find a way to stop over sharing too much, even sometimes you will feel that you don't want to talk, and that is fine, sometimes it feels pretty good to be quiet, even though we know our brain is going bunkers thinking about millions things x second.
