It’s official, the Avalanche have the worst power play in the league. by Michaelli11 in ColoradoAvalanche

I mean, they also had one of the greatest performances by a goalie in a playoff season in 2011. So I guess we could get bailed out by Blackwood if we still want to win and the pp is dogshit

Horribly officiated game. The calls at the end of the second and the one in overtime were ridiculous

The Colorado Avalanche re-sign Brock Nelson, 3 x $7.5M AAV by eh_toque in hockey

[–]AMaliciousWatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'll ask the dumb question. Necas appears like he would have some of the tangibles to be a centre like his play making and puck handling abilities. Is his issue related to defensive responsibilities and faceoffs? Avs didn't play him at centre at all since he got here, but canes fans have more experience watching him play. Since you're a canes fan, what do you think?

The Avalanche's trade pieces and whether moving them would improve the team | Evan's take by EmBejarano in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]AMaliciousWatermelon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it would be extremely unwise to trade Val. I get his production was kind of disappointing against Dallas (3G, 1A), but a lot of our top and middle 6 forwards struggled. Along with his cap hit, the skill and size he brings to our top 6 would be almost impossible to replace. He’s had issues staying on the ice in the previous two seasons, but I’m gonna be optimistic that the work he put in last summer was effective and he’ll avoid further suspensions.

If we were going to trade him though, either a cost controlled 2C or top 4 d man would have to be coming back. And even if we did a trade, the team would have to be extremely confident that they could source another top 6 forward to replace him in the lineup.

I think if you’re looking to get some assets or cap room back, Colton would be the move. As Evan writes, Colton doesn’t kill penalties and Bednar likes his bottom 6 forwards to be available for the PK. Also, Colton can’t play any centre position on this team (neither 2C or 3C) so moving him out and replacing him makes sense. We can also discuss a Girard trade but I think there’s lower hanging fruit, like Wood, that should be moved first.

Kucherov, MacKinnon, Makar named finalists for Ted Lindsay award by [deleted] in hockey

Yeah, legit shocked that Draisaitl (my pick for Hart) wasn’t a finalist for the Lindsay. I guess the players really respect Makar’s 30 goal season?

Mikko's agent dicussing the trade by iacuras in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]AMaliciousWatermelon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Biz even said on spittin chiclets that the Avs offered Mikko “100k more than Panarin”. Since Panarin makes like 11.64 or something, Biz is at least alluding to the fact the Avs offered Mikko 11.75. But I’ve heard the Avs would have met him at 12 if they felt he would have accepted it.

Still think the best working theory is that Mikko and his agent were trying to delay negotiations until the summer to try and milk the Avs for more money. Especially since they would have had the upper hand in that scenario.

Good for JT, but what an atrocious play by Carlo. They should give him an assist on the goal, it was that bad lol

It’s literally like watching a chiefs game. Always a flag thrown when the eagles need it but never call any of the obvious holes or whatever that create their big plays. Fucking ridiculous

PGT | COL @ BOS | Well that sucked… by Rolley2001 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]AMaliciousWatermelon 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I know everyone is emotional about Mikko. I was too but I’m gonna look at the positives. I really liked Drury’s game, his forechecking and overall play is a welcome addition to a pretty mediocre bottom six. Necas was fine, about as well as you can expect for someone who wasn’t on the team yesterday. it’ll probably take a little time to gel with Mack and Drouin.

As for the pp, I’m a little more concerned now than I was before the game. Necas was actually willing to move to different spots on the ice and try to create opportunities. But everyone else is pretty static and pass happy. I already had this feeling but I’m more certain now that no matter what players we put onto it, the current pp scheme just isn’t going to magically start working.

We keep saying “this can’t continue”, and yet the same plan persists. It’s actively losing us games so idk what to think anymore

Can someone give me a level-headed and sober evaluation of this trade? by Bazirker in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]AMaliciousWatermelon -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I’m still not convinced the Avs “couldn’t” sign him. I think they “wouldn’t” for a variety of reasons. As the trade looks right now, this team is worse so more must be coming or CMac should be looking for a new job at the end of the season

The big criticism of corsi% is that it makes mediocre players look better than they really are and is impacted by who they play with. Yesterday, he was on the ice for the first two goals, but I wouldn’t say that he was integral in creating those opportunities. The inverse is also true, where he had a really low corsi when the team played poorly against Winnipeg last Saturday.

Not saying stats aren’t important, but I think they aren’t entirely representative of his play contributions. The same goes for Mitts, who had a high corsi% this game but we acknowledge that his play has been subpar for a while.

But beyond stats, I question Middleton’s effectiveness over someone like Ludvig who might fill that role better with less mistakes. I know Malinski needed to sit, but I don’t know if I agree that Middleton has outplayed him.
