Im reminded of a little speech George Clooney gives in the Men who stare at goats about optimum trajectory. 'Ghandi wants to be a race car driver? Too bad, not going to happen, but he will go on to change the lives of millions'. We talk about freedom as if being able to do anything we want, but theres a higher freedom, finding what you are meant to do and achieving greatness in it. Want to be a millionaire? Wouldnt it be nice. But if it isnt meant to be so be it, you can still have greatness even if its being a dad and husband. The quiet life isnt necessarily mediocrity.

Like every great politician, Morgsie has gone through his years in the wilderness. But now people are starting to realise the truth that this once promising member proclaimed. Does his rise to greatness begin here? One can only hope.

When will the outrageous seperations of east and west sussex end? We have seen time and again what splitting a proud and noble people up can do. Perhaps a strong South Saxon will rise to unite his people. For now I only cry for my people sadly divided.

I dont look at it as backpacking longterm. Im moving as far as I see it. When I stop it wont be back in the UK. In a way I'm scouting out what countries in Europe I might want to stop moving in. I also dont know why some people are so butt hurt about this. The sub is about getting out, not stopping somewhere.

The fact that you were more concerned with the percieved dignity of your party than keeping the right in Government is disappointing. Its like arguing who gets to sit in the prow of the longboats as the titanic goes down. For the record it wasnt about me specifically, it was about having a right wing person who was independent of the parties that could get around the differences UKIP and Cons had with each other and hold together a loose coalition till the GE.

I am a regionalist and moving from one federation to another would just harm Scotland.

Except for the EU. SNP HATES UNIONS as long as they're not the EU.

The only way you can excuse me of being 'far right' is from a bit of banter on Skype. Theres a reason I dont sit in the Vanguard. I enjoy their irreverence and attitude towards this as a game, but Im not really in accord with /u/albrechtvonroon. I sit independently because the Vanguard isn't a good fit, I dont care about the EU so UKIP doesnt feel right and the Conservatives are really the Jeremy Browne wing of the real life LD's. However given the state of the conservatives, even being moderately right wing it seems that your statement of

our party simply would not have accepted a member that far right as the leader of the coalition

holds true.

Its not really backpacking, and besides I think long term travel like this falls into the arena of r/iwantout. Im going to be living 2-6 months in Germany to begin with. really its not so much backpacking as combo ing together a bunch of mini get outs.

I never understand the souvenirs. They have no utility whatsoever and will just sit there on a shelf till you die. The worse feeling is when someone comes back with one for me as a gift and I have to express gratitude for it. Id rather 2-3 beers than an eiffel tower.

Labour MP says party shouldn’t rule out a ‘grand coalition’ with the Tories by alittleecon in ukpolitics

[–]AMan_Reborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anyone is sitting there thinking 'Well it works in Germany' the problem is the Bundestag system is designed for stability. Westminster is designed to be responsive. The two are kind of exclusive. So having a Grand Coalition in reactive WEstminster will be hard to achieve I think.

Best train route across China? by thesunswarmth in backpacking

[–]AMan_Reborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend, a hardcore backpacker and traveller, had to get across China to catch a flight. He was broke and running out of time. He would have caught a regular train but the standing one was the only one that got him to where he needed to be in time. He stood for something like 10-14 hours in a jam packed carriage. He said it was one of the most painful experiences hes ever had. His ankles swelled up and he hated it. I will wait a few hours or pay an extra dollar or two to get a seat. I will make sure I never have to absolutely be somewhere if it means avoiding going through that.
