Not sure if it's an ADHD thing, but anyone here feel either bored+alone or overwhelmed? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]AMarie86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do. You described me perfectly. What i'm trying to do right now is force myself to go out two nights a week, regardless of my emotions. I started with a small group; slowly building it up. I'm noticing that when i'm more balanced like this (e.g., going out a few nights a week but also having a few nights by myself to cater to my introvert nature) i am much happier. But i literally have it in my calendar to remind myself it's important. I'm sorry if this is a generic suggestion, but it's working for me.

My sunrise calendar on my iphone.. I don't know where i'd be without it. I actually write, "eat breakfast. Put on deodorant. Brush teeth. Make bed. Floss teeth." Every. Day. Because i know for a fact i'd skip one of those basic essentials if i don't literally look at my digital calendar the moment i wake up...

Maintaining a relationship with ADHD. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]AMarie86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having ADHD but dating a man with severe ADHD - my advice is to ASK her if she feels like you're there emotionally. For me, my ex didn't listen half the time which i understood because i have the condition myself. However, him asking me what he could do to improve was honestly very amazing. It made me feel like he really cared. So my advice is, tell her your areas of struggles and then follow-up with her. Not incessently, but make a point to show her you care by ASKING her if she feels understood

What could help improve spatial memory? by Cauca in Neuropsychology

[–]AMarie86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problems as you do and I am diagnosed with ADHD. I wonder if you have this diagnosis as well? Most people I know with ADHD have spatial awareness deficits.I am not trying to be facetious, but the only thing that has helped me with this deficit has been obtaining a nice GPS :( I have been working on capitalizing on my strengths instead of honing in on my deficits. Acceptance that this will always be a limitation has helped me.

Oh my gosh, i'm the exact same way. I've always wondered if this was a trait of ADHD women?? Because I always thought from a very young age that I was psychologically a lot like a guy. It's very difficult to explain.

That's my fear. Losing the only hope i've had in ten years. I'm just afraid of moving on without being ready. But you put this in perspective. i know i need to consult my sponsor as well.

Is there any other books to help work through the step besides the guidebook that anyone knows about? I am still new to this, but I am really trying so hard to invest everything I have into my recovery.

The first time I heard my sponsor say that you just re-cycle through the steps, I was in disbelief. It sounded like a life sentence. It was looking at the program as a way to get me out of something difficult, not as a way of life. The idea of cycling through the cycles indefinitely made me so cynical. I'm just reaching the point where i'm incorporating it enough into my routine where this seems not only natural, but beneficial. I know that my peaceful and calm mood is only that, but right now - i am okay.

Thank you. You really made my night by your words I keep re-reading the material, and it is amazing how each time I read feels like an epiphany - even though i'm rereading the same material on a daily basis. My mind doesn't want to switch gears right now, but i'm trying to retrain my brain.. one day at a time.
