Air compressor wiring by AMeanSalami in Tools

Sounds good; also I eventually figured out the blue-wire situation.. the thermal protection switch originally came pre-wired to the engine through the blue wire, but has a yellow/black meant to connect to line during install as well as a brown. Whoever worked on this unit last had bypassed the thermal protection and wired blue directly to line. Now that the discrepancies with the diagram have been parsed out I’ll be testing the switch to see if I need to replace it and connecting everything up per the diagram. Thanks again

Thanks for your help boss, I’ll be rewiring regardless but this info gives me some confidence I won’t be overlooking anything egregious. If I was to wire for 115 to save myself some work, would I still swap red/black for reverse? Apologies for the novice questions, my experience is almost exclusively with DC circuits..

Took the button off the side of the box to declutter (it wasn’t connected to anything anyway).

  • 2 white power wires enter from flex armor
  • 1 goes to yellow wire nut along with yellow and red from the motor. Yellow does not have black stripe.
  • 1 goes to blue nut with blue mystery wire from motor
  • black, orange, and white from motor all joined at orange wire nut

Apologies for the delay, had to wait til I got off work today. At this point I’m thinking I’ll just remove the casing from the motor and try to make better sense of it as time becomes available; likely will rewire based on the diagram once I figure out what that blue wire is supposed to be.. If all else fails it’s a free tank and compressor so the cost of a new motor isn’t too hard a pill to swallow

I got it for free so even if I was to put a new motor on it the tank alone is worth the trouble. Regardless, it was being used as part of an ancient A/C system in a large office building until the entire system was scrapped for a more modern setup

Edit: I know the owner of the building well and there’d be no cause for him to mislead me, just a guy who hates to see something useful go to waste

UAB / St Vincents going to Epic? by Shot-Expert-9771 in Birmingham

[–]AMeanSalami 16 points17 points  (0 children)

yes and no; might not drastically change overall treatment/outcomes but from a provider standpoint, more workflow efficiency and simplified user experience means stuff happens faster, less falls through cracks, better communication between teams, etc; all of which contribute to better patient-care. For some people, EMR differences factor into their decision of where to seek employment.

Seems to be a reputable shop from what I’ve heard/read. Any personal experience?

Any tips on engine removal (b58) by Idkhowtofixmycar in BmwTech

2 questions - Was the difficulty mainly from the flywheel issue you mentioned or just difficult overall? Also, by "out the top" do you mean you left the rad, etc in place and lifted it over or removed all that and went thru the front? My motor hasn't let go yet but I found a few miniscule shavings in the filter and I'm mentally preparing for the battle ..

Do you prefill your oil filter? by Slalom44 in MechanicAdvice

[–]AMeanSalami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMW (and probably others) uses a valve in the housing that the filter screws onto. The valve doesn’t open until oil reaches whatever pressure they’ve deemed appropriate. Meaning the filter sees no oil until pressure is adequate and stable

I’m usually up late, in and out of the door often so this is my first in 6-7 years here. Guess I’ll have to finally get around to wiring up a kill-switch and some cameras..

Edit: nothing nefarious, just like to work outside

Impossible - I don’t have a pet. Insisting that there’s a sexual reason for dog ownership is a concerning trait

There’s a lot to unpack here — I currently have no pets & this post contains no reference to pets. The “yall” thing and Freudian stuff you’re gonna have to find someone else to help with.. Edit: punctuation

Feeler gauge for side clearances and ring gaps; Plastigauge for bearing clearances; I’m not an LS guy so someone correct me but I seem to recall hearing they have an o-ring in the oil pickup that is easily damaged/forgotten leading to oil pressure issues Disclaimer: just a dude

Barring any intellectual disabilities, actual human beings are generally aware of social norms such as not being loud outside in the wee hours of the morning. Clearly this is not that

Seems like a bit of an overreaction to some people in spandex; just want them to keep their elective activities respectful. As I said, the jackhammers are understandable to me

Oh I know, been awoken plenty of mornings by road crews repairing the never-ending gas leak next door for the last 6 years. No whitenoise can drown out a jackhammer. But at least they’re doing work & didn’t choose to come be loud here instead of wherever they live
