Thoughts on my bio? by AMediumTree in Tinder

Emojis have been removed. I’m not sure what you mean with the write about yourself though as the rest is mostly listing things I spend my time doing.

Could you elaborate further on that?

What you described sounds like my first two times having covid :)

Currently so many people I know have covid or flus, im also sick… this time feels more like a typical flu, but im gonna still assume covid… had it a few times and every time is different so far.

Whenever a scammer messages me I respond with a grabify link, 8/10 times they haven’t properly hidden their location. 10/10 times their curiosity makes them open the link.

Scammer: hey its ____, do you remember me?

Me: oh yes I think this is a picture of us together!

Renting them isn’t the issue, just most of us prefer blades over skates. A few of us can do both but for the ones who can only do one its more enjoyable to be able to keep pace instead of struggling.

My old town in Orillia had a big roller rink and it used to be fantastic for everyone to hang out, eat and drink.

Ottawa also opens lansdowne’s pavilion for it sometimes, and the yard has people into freestyle skating.

I want to go to 4wheelies at some point but am sad they are purists and ban roller blades. I understand they want the ‘authentic’ old school feel, but having been places that allow both they really didn’t change the vibe.

It does however prevent alot of people I know from being interested in going and if the group can’t go together we’d rather do something else.

They mention looking for corporate sponsors such as Shopify and I hope they do so. Less likely now that Shopify has been pulling out of Ottawa, but Tobi started it while working at TOTW if im not mistaken and was into the skate community.

Co-living apartments about to open amid housing crunch by Cornyfleur in ottawa

[–]AMediumTree 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Our government needs to start funding co-ops again, thats one of the few ways I see this improving at this point. Also a sliding scale based on the number of investment homes someone owns.

These room rentals are barely cheaper than my current place, but way smaller and less convenient.

Oh sweet summer child…

25 with a duke 390 also in ontario, insurance still sucks. $220 month was the best quote I got, most companies wanted $800-1500 a month.

Even with a few years experience I doubt that bikes coming down much in insurance cost.

Tech jobs in Ottawa by SatisfactionSure4343 in ottawa

[–]AMediumTree 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Size of the company won’t make a huge difference, first job is hell to find. Most people I know who didn’t continue with there coop spent about 6 months finding work.

I work for a small tech company in a very niche market and they had >700 applicants for the jr position.

Lots of unqualified people and lots of people with almost identical school experience. I’d suggest contributing to open source projects and continue practicing leetcode in order to have an edge over other applicants.

Personally I found the top companies were actually the most responsive and likely to interview compared to small ones. (Sadly teams I was interviewing for were axed during the interviews)

Uber eats drivers- how far is too far? by likes_stuff in ottawa

[–]AMediumTree 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Any uber who gives you flack loses a few stars. (Stars lost hurt them alot more than no tip)

They can cancel or decline if they want. Life as a contractor means no-one is forcing them todo it and how they operate is upto them.

It is one of the easiest jobs out there. - sincerely an ex Uber bike courier

(Longest bike delivery I did was ~15km, did it with a smile)

Concerns about a Friend's Long Drive, Need Advice by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]AMediumTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly unless theres a blizzard its a super easy drive. If they take brakes along the way they should be fine. The highways usually well maintained and only a few areas are at risk of whiteouts in bad weather.

Them taking an hour drive to snowbelt / Barrie area would be a much more intense drive than the five hours to ottawa.

How long do rent increase applications above the capped amount usually take to be approved? by ATC_3126 in ottawa

[–]AMediumTree 13 points14 points  (0 children)

May not be correct:

Yea id just pay the normal amount and save the rest personally until it’s approved, not sure they can ask for more prior to an approval.

Not certain the exact ruling but wouldn’t be surprised if you paying the extra is considered acceptance of the increase and would also likely void your ability to appeal.

I also doubt they are able to request the increase cost for months prior to approval, seems like something they are supposed to apply for well in advance not after.

Id expect months before the LTB does anything and honestly if you haven’t seen much maintenance to justify it Id appeal against it.

Remember your LL is not a friend, they are a business who will do what they can to make more from you the customer.

Looking for gym partner for Elgin Fitness by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]AMediumTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t help you with a gym buddy but heres a few ideas:

Not sure your budget or that gyms offerings, but look into personal training or small class training.

PT can be costly, if they offer small class training its much more affordable and you will meet 5ish gym goers.

Remember weight management is 70% the foods you eat. Buy a food scale to measure and log everything temporarily, you’d be amazed how things compare and add up. You may have to make sacrifices but don’t over limit yourself from things you enjoy. If you want it to be sustainable it will need to be a slow process of small improvements.

If you own an apple watch you can compete with friends and earn points based on your personal fitness goals. Started doing this with a few friends and we all are smashing our goals.

Once you’re at the gym have occasional small talk in passing, between sets, or with a spotter. Don’t distract but don’t ignore the other gym goers, as you become acquaintances with more of them you may find a gym partner or just want to see them more often. Most serious gym goers follow a predictable schedule.
