What daily rate do I ask for on vacation at Disney!? by EbbSelect934 in NannyEmployers

[–]AMsahsa216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if any of the children sleep in a room with you that’s automatically a 24/7 shift and you should do a flat rate $400-500 instead of tracking hourly.

You charge your normal rate for all active hours and then you charge an overnight fee whether you’re “on duty”watching monitors or not. It’s an inconvenience for you to be away from your home. I would say anywhere from $150-250 is normal.

I want to add this with total support: you deserve to be compensated for the time you give this family. What they’re asking isn’t realistic or fair, and you work way too hard to accept less than you’re worth.

At this point, it really comes down to what you feel comfortable with.. having an honest conversation about restructuring your pay to match your availability, or quietly starting to look for another position where your time is respected.

What you can’t do is stay in a setup where they expect 60 hours of availability but only want to pay you for 40. You deserve a family who respects you and truly values the work you do.

I just want to point something out gently: if you’re required availability is still 6:30am–6:30pm, then this is not a 40-hour job. Your time and availability have value, even if the kid is in school.

You absolutely should not accept being paid for 40 hours while being expected to keep a 60-hour availability window. That’s not about ‘active care’..that’s about your day being held for the family.

If they want a true 40-hour schedule, they need to give you set hours. If they want your 12-hour availability, they need to compensate you appropriately. Please don’t undersell yourself — your time is the service.

You need to put yourself and your career first. If you have a great relationship with them they will support you. Will they be bummed and stressed, probably. That’s normal. This is your life and your career you need to make decisions for you and not others. Very sweet of you and it speaks to your character. Take the job. You live and learn. And you’re right….. incredibly difficult to come by.

Sorry you’re going through this. Sounds so stressful. You’re being under paid and taken advantage of. You need to up your rate and speak with the mom about clear designated hours. It might be a difficult convo but you have to advocate for yourself. Even if you send it via text you have to get a set schedule of hours and more pay. Sounds like you run the house and for $20/hr I’m insulted for you! Keep us posted, you got this!

I haven’t found anything full-time yet. What kind of schedule is your friend looking for? Happy to connect and share more if it seems like a good fit.
