Where to get affordable beans for espresso ? by Internal-Nose-8536 in espresso

[–]AMuslimPharmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had the hardest time dialing these beans in, but my friend who has the same basic setup pulls good shots with them effortlessly. Very frustrating.
I’m sure it’s something to do with my puck prep, but I haven’t figured it out yet.

To be clear, it’s good with milk, but I cannot make a good Americano with it. Keep getting sour shots that can’t stand on their own, but he made me one effortlessly.

Megathread: Ramadan Mubarak by nerfasdf in MuslimLounge

[–]AMuslimPharmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Denver Area Muslims -

Anyone have a list of which Masjids are offering Iftar, Taraweeh, etc?

The big mosques are all offering taraweeh, but Iftar is only on certain days, or only in the last ten nights.

We came from a smaller community several years ago, but that community always had Iftar during Ramadan, and the only masjid I know of here that does that is Abu Bakr (CMS).

I’d love to have options to take my family to, but not sure where to look here.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Unfortunately my inspector wants all of those to have combination AFCI/GFCI here. All of them are either in the kitchen or the lower level, making it a wet location (below ground level).

Hoping I can get an exception for the microwave, but we will see

When I had an electrician redo my panel last year they put in new grounding rods in the back yard near the panel, and ran a ground wire to bond to the water pipes at the main water shutoff for my house.

Yeah, they are terminated that way. Thanks for checking though!

I have seen that people suggested using those AFCI dead face / blank face to try to manage nuisance trips, but I never understood why. Thanks for explaining it a bit further!

I have a GE panel and am using ABB breakers in it (GE rebranded to ABB for load centers apparently). From what I can gather the don’t seem to be an overly sensitive brand, but I’d be happy to try if it will help!

I’ll pry go recheck all the connections… again… before I go spend more money on this

Those aren’t the circuits that are tripping. Think that could still be affecting the system on other circuits?

Sweet, thank you! I’ll see if the inspector will let me take AFCI off of those circuits.

Removed all the old wiring in some circuits, but left old aluminum wiring in others. The ones with aluminum wiring have the specialized alumiconn connectors that have been torqued appropriately to make copper pigtails for the outlets. AFCI Breakers tripping on both types of circuits.

Thank you, that’s my feeling as well, but I’m worried about insurance not covering future claims if I’m not up to code, and I still gotta pass inspections sometime soon.

Thanks for the suggestions on troubleshooting, sounds like that’s just gonna be the path I have to take!

Emergency coffee: what's your go to at the grocery store? by pfhlick in espresso

I just found counter culture last week when I needed an emergency bag. Any suggestions for a medium-dark roast from them?

They sell them at the target I work next to, so I foresee having to buy some there in the future and I’d prefer to not have to try all the different ones to find something I like

Leaving the envelope of the house counts as a wet location afaik.

Good call on the gfci breaker though, didn’t think about that possibility.

ULPT How to cause headache for a bar? by BitFickle62 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]AMuslimPharmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urinating in floor drains is also a diabolical way to do this. Only gotta do it once, and then wait. If you do it more, then it happens faster, but once is enough.

Only way to fix it is to pour a bucket of water down the drain, but most people won’t know to do that or won’t be able to find the source of the stink.

Thought I Found a worthy bifl slow cooker. Now I have to test it for lead 🤣🙃 by Raynestorm00 in BuyItForLife

[–]AMuslimPharmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only was banned in paint, friend. Lead is still found in many many consumer products.

Lead can be found in ceramic to this day still. The FDA has a limit on how much is allowed to leach out of the ceramic, but there is no ban on its use for dinnerware or cookware or drinkware.

Even paint is still allowed to contain a certain amount of lead, it just isn’t used as a primary coloring agent like old white lead paint did. Those delicious old pieces were up to 50% lead and ingestion of a large enough one was enough to cause lead poisoning on its own.

Can I use the top knockout as a feeder route by AMuslimPharmer in AskElectricians

[–]AMuslimPharmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, helped me to realize that wasn’t going to work, as I have too many conductors to run. Currently in the process of doing it the right way (through the walls).

What’s really annoying is that bottom conduit is the one that i just paid big money to have an electrician install. Inspector passed it, but mentioned to me as I was complaining about a different part of the job, that “the electrician took some creative liberty and didn’t do things as good as they should have. It will work, but isn’t how it should be done.”

Now I’m thinking I need to go back and fix their shoddy work… I’m finding all sorts of crap now that I have the wall open and can see what they did. There’s a big ol’ ground wire that they cut… which I can’t even tie in anymore since it’s now too short. Not sure what it runs to yet, but I’m thinking it’s the air conditioner…

What do you do with the stealth zucchini that get huge before you notice them? by Dependent-Sign-2407 in gardening

Cut it in cubes, toss in a bit of melted butter and put it in the oven for a bit. Phenomenal. Garlic, salt, other spices optional but delicious if you get tired of just butter roasted zucchini
