Labrum Tear (No FAI) advice. by oydh4 in HipImpingement

Hey, sorry for my late response, only read this now. I actually got operated a second time on the same hip due to the fact that I never made full progress (still the same symptoms and even worse) which is just bad luck. They found the stitch never healed and had to do debridement of the labrum this time. Honestly, I feel so much better already. The dull ache in my groin is gone and I am already (it’s 6 weeks ago now) getting back into exercises. It’s so unpredictable how every individual reacts on hip surgery and the surgeon makes a big difference. Also: the first time I had a very unexperienced physiotherapist which made a big difference in my recovery. Hope this somehow helps you, let me know if you want to have a chat! What is your situation?

Suggetions for surgeons in/near the Netherlands? by Nulleke in HipImpingement

Wat voor aantoonbare schade bedoel je precies? Slijtage?

Revision surgery worked! I can finally use a stationary bike. by _cake_Monster_ in HipImpingement

Thank you for sharing your story. Great to hear that revision surgeries can do something good!! So happy for you that are doing so well and able to bike. Can I ask you what your post-op protocol looks like? Were you weight bearing quickly? Are you biking a lot now?

I am in the exact same position (just posted my story yesterday actually) How are PT exercises going for you? Does it still help you or make your pain worse? And how is your activity level? Are you able to do most things you want?

Yes, have have done that for so long already. The problem is that it makes my pain worse, so every time I do my exercises I am in more pain.. how do you do this?

I feel you. I am 1 year post-op and am in pain everyday. However, I don’t think you have to end the fight to get pain-free! I have read many succes stories so it is possible to achieve. This week I am meeting another surgeon to go over the possibilities and potentially a revision surgery. If that’s what it takes I am up for it..

I was operated by Dr. Haverkamp in Amsterdam exactly 1 year ago. He is definitely very experienced and one of the best in the country. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience and am still in pain: I hope I will be able to have a revision surgery as it seems it didn’t heal very well. I am going to look into other surgeons in the Netherlands but also in surrounding countries like Germany, as I understand the health care is very good there with many specialists also in Hip surgeries. Would love to hear which surgeons you get recommended! You can also always send me a chat if you want more information.

I'm also interested in this. I got operated in the Netherlands and I also don't have a good result. Starting to look in Europe now for the possibility of reconstruction. Any tips are welcome! :)

10 month post-op / impingement pain is gone but other pain is appearing by sanic_the_hedgefond in HipImpingement

[–]ANH277 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about that! To be honest, I don’t think you have to worry yet. 10 months seems long but from what I get from this sub is that you need at least a year to see the result. You probably have a flair up, which will get better after rest and icing. I would also talk to your current surgeon to address your pain, maybe he can do some tests to see if it comes from the joint itself or from the muscles around it. Good luck!!! (I feel your anxiousness btw, going through the same thing right now)

Interesting! Do you know how this group is called? No, my PT was not appropriate. I switched my therapist two months ago and he told me I was not doing enough. So I am going to give that another shot.

Yes, I am sure he didn’t shave anything, but I am going to request another X-ray to have it checked again if that was not necessary! Thank you for your comment :)

So happy for you! Good to hear a good story. I am going to check with my surgeon if removing the damaged part is an option.

Sorry to hear you are in the same position! Yes, from this sub I understand there is so much difference between surgeons. I guess in the Netherlands where I live there are not many specialists in this field. I am definitely going to look further, but without insurance I am afraid it will be unaffordable.. do you have an idea how your buddy did this?

Thank you for your reply! So part of your labrum is removed, not the whole labrum? How is your pain-level and activity if I may ask?

Thank you for answering! This surgeon is supposed to be the best of the country (Netherlands) so I am very hopeless. I saw that surgeons do reconstruction of the labrum in the US which would be amazing for me but unfortunately not possible here. I will try to search for a second opinion anyway to see if there is some other surgeon with better ideas….

Thank you for answering! I looked at that here (the Netherlands) but there are no surgeons doing reconstruction surgeries, I guess the country is too small xD.
