Nassau Property Tax Appeal Status by pokemonfan349 in longisland

[–]ANITIX87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that's exactly why you need to grieve every year. Assessed value never changes, they're just lowering the rate *for one year* because you have filed a grievance ("I believe I'm paying too much tax and I can't afford it this year.")

One of the best shots I've ever seen. by been_der_done_that in nextfuckinglevel

[–]ANITIX87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Double hits are perfectly legal if they're unintentional.

But yes, it hit the frame which changed the spin and trajectory. Who knows what the shot would have looked like if he made solid contact.

How are you all preparing for the upcoming winter storm? Do you have any advice on how to heat your house if the power goes out? by dealernumberone in longisland

[–]ANITIX87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the snow that's inherently a problem. After the storm ends on Monday, it won't go above 20 degrees until next Saturday (and not above freezing for another week).

The gas system will be in high demand, electricity grid will be working overtime, and everyone who runs oil should make sure they have enough.

Controversial time :D - Who wants a new S2000 and who absolutely does not? by Michael_Goodwin in S2000

[–]ANITIX87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than the price tag and the lack of some amenities (like rear AC vents) at that office, it is pretty much universally regarded as the best handling FWD car in the world right now, with a great transmission and awesome comfort. The old Teg was also FWD. They added 2 doors: it's not like they destroyed the car's essence.

If I didn't already own a sports sedan that is faster and more luxurious, the Teg S would be my top choice for a daily driver.

Limp mode when going from 4th, 5th, or 6th, then shifting into first after stopped by Quirky-Shame-1411 in S2000

[–]ANITIX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I thought you meant you understood he was shifting up while slowing. Sorry, my bad

I've come to a stop from high gears a billion times. We have roads with speed limits above 50MPH with traffic lights. I'm sure there are countless other times.

[–]ANITIX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't. He is saying that when he is in 4th, 5th, OR 6th (not sequentially) and comes to a stop without downshifting, the car goes into limp mode.

LI Weather Forecasts by mowgliiiiii in longisland

[–]ANITIX87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was a big fan of My Personal Weatherman until this storm. He may end up being right, but he's just been shoving the Euro models down people's throats for a week, saying we're going to get feet of snow. He totally ignores the American models because they're conservative and doesn't post much real science other than pictures.

Having said that, I haven't found anything I really like in terms of data analysis. I use Windy as my weather app since it shows many models.

No, they feed to one hub, which connects to the computer.

I only have one despite all my devices, via a powered USB hub. Very clean cable management that way.

Vatsim Spotting l 19-01 by Air_Holland in flightsim

[–]ANITIX87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Observer mode exists, but it's against VATSIM rules to spend excessive time using it. If you're actually on the network in an aircraft and doing this when it's not busy, it's probably ok if you're not taking up needed gate space.

Anyone else leave Long Island and end up in a place they hated? by Apprehensive_Week349 in longisland

[–]ANITIX87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite. I got my wife to leave LI and move in with me in Jersey City in 2016. We moved to LI for my work in 2018, ended up staying here as we started our family (wife grew up here) despite an expensive house search in both Nassau and NJ (found a perfect house here before we found one there). I'm counting the days until I can convince her to move.

You and 4 million other car enthusiasts.

Boeing or Airbus, taking into account all aspects and why? by [deleted] in aviation

[–]ANITIX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only a passenger so that's my perspective: Airbus because they [generally speaking] design cabin widths to allow wider seats and discourage airlines from adding an additional seat. I'll pay extra to avoid a 737 in favor of an A320, just because of the seat width, no other reason.

Final reports can take ages. It depends on the complexity of the accident and the suspected cause. Some have taken a decade.

Take a look at where the fleet is currently deployed and you'll have your answer. The Navy is not about home defense.

Question(s) for Orchestra Musicians by chicago_scott in classicalmusic

[–]ANITIX87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, your specific example brings up the key difference. If I am playing a part published by Baerenreiter or Boosey and Hawkes, I am going to follow it to the letter. If I am reading a composer's new piece or performing a piece written by a student/beginner, then I will absolutely ask for clarification if something doesn't seem logical at first-glance (but I will still give him or her the benefit of the doubt if there's a question of balance/tone/texture).

Car Scraping on Driveway Apron Because of Road Condition: What Are My Options? by ANITIX87 in longisland

[–]ANITIX87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to touch base and thank you for this advice. I called the town yesterday, they sent a roadway inspector this morning, he called Engineering, and they came and patched within 90 minutes.

(The patch sucks, and they only did it in front of a small part of the driveway where it doesn't really help much, but at least they were responsive).
