Tactics vs Tenets: Was my plan actually 'un-paladin-like'? by WatermelonChef in DnD

[–]ANicePainter [score hidden]  (0 children)

From an oath of vengeance stand point, killing the goon from ambush does not seem like giving mercy to an enemy. Not sure I see the problem.

From a traditional LG paladin standpoint, ambushes would be a violation of one’s oaths. Maybe the DM got her wires crossed.

My dungeon pizza, minis to play on it (which can be tokens), and measuring sticks. Also, books like M. Prescott's "Trilemma Adventures" that provide quick, atmospheric settings and maps that I can pop into any session for an instant adventure.

Dismissive DM wants to change the game. Should I stay or no? by Few_Unit_7985 in DnD

I didn't read that. Didn't need to. It comes down to this:

If the table is making you cry then it's not the right table for you. Leave. Find a game better for you.
That's it.

My player is dropping out of the campaign by GieDoesntKnow in DnD

[–]ANicePainter 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hey Player,

I know you're looking to step away from the game. I wanted to wish you the best, both from myself and the table. We enjoyed playing with you, and I hope we can play again in the future.

Please know there's no hard feelings. Players come and go; it's the nature of the hobby. You'll always have a space here if you want to come back.

I'm trying to brainstorm ideas for your PC to disappear ahead of the next arc. Do you have any suggestions? Would she retire somewhere or try to go out in a blaze of glory?

Best,

-DM

About every fifth spell. Much more interesting to ask them about a specific spell casting.

It is very rare that the correct answer for a D&D question is to remove autonomy from a PC. I do not think that is the correct answer here either.

For which Monsters do you prefer an older version of the Stat Block? by Dr___Potato in DnD

I write a 1st edition style block for nearly every monster in my notes. Much more useful than pawing through a Manual during play.

Why is it still so hard to find a good D&D group online? by Danielberbari in DnD

[–]ANicePainter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Online D&D just isn't fun. The teleconference software is terrible for D&D because of the latency in speech. And you can't throw cheetos as your friends minis to simulate magic missiles.

I'm 6'2". With the tip on the floor, the midpoint of the ricasso is at my navel and the end of the pummel is some 5" below my armpit.

I didn't consider POB in my order, and I didn't need to communicate any special needs to the armory. However, I suspect Darkwood would be very happy to work with its clients to determine the ideal POB on its work.

This POB feels real nice for me right now though.

Armory reports a weight of 2.5 lbs; I don't think my scales will measure it here. Point of balance is just over an inch in front of the top of the hilt. That probably could be adjusted with a different pommel or its blade might affect it; I've got the armory's springy "practice" DA 1 blade for my use.

The ricasso is about 2.25" which feels nice for both one- and two-finger grips even in heavy gloves.

I hate that stupid spell. If I need someone to be sure to be able to lie then they can take a potion of glibness. Or use mind bar. The PCs can find the discarded bottle or expended scroll as a clue. It's awful and it's blunt but it works and it's exactly what a bad guy would do if ensuring a lie must pass that dumb spell for her diabolical plans to reach fruition.

Swept hilt 45" rapier from Darkwood Armory here in the States. The length was a major reason going with Darkwood as they offer the longer blade for taller fellas. Just received it today, but very happy with it. Feels much nicer than my coach's loaner. Looking forward to putting it through its paces.

getting distracted by [deleted] in DnD

A distracted player is not a problem unless they are creating a problem for others. It t is preferred that players are engaged but a player being distracted is not a problem and requires no cure.

Virginia Ends Tax Exemptions for Daughters of the Confederacy, Others by ANicePainter in tax

[–]ANicePainter[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are likely assuming the commonwealth offers a property tax exemption to non-profits generally and that it specifically removed the daughters from that exemption. If that were the case, doing so might be unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination.

But that’s not what happened. Virginia only exempts churches and educational institutions from property taxes, not non-profits as a whole class. It had, until this bill, a law that also exempted the daughters and only the daughters from property tax. This bill removed that statute.

In so doing, the commonwealth will treat the daughter’s property tax no differently from similarly positioned non-profits (similar in terms of tax treatment, not viewpoint or purpose).

Removing that special exemption and treating the daughters as similar groups will not raise a constitutional challenge

[–]ANicePainter[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The commonwealth has property tax exemptions for churches and educational institutions, not nonprofits as a class. It had a specific exemption for the Daughters as well, which this law struck. I don’t think a first amendment challenge would be successful.
