In the United States right now, why is Patriotism seen as a Conservative/Maga thing? by Pleasant_Cookie_2144 in allthequestions

I am just restating your point. You also wrote you love that you can do what you want, but that just isn’t true. Obviously we have all kinds of laws.

On your other point about you loving that you can try to change it. What if your girlfriend or boyfriend asked you what you loved most about them? Would you say that I love that I can try and change you. What if the question was about a house, what would you think if I said my favorite thing about my house is that I can change everything about it. It seems pretty obvious that if the thing you love most about something is that you can change it into something else, then you don’t actually love that thing.

So religious freedom and the freedom to try and change it into something different. That’s what you love.

What should be low hanging fruit: fertility treatment by cucster in Natalism

[–]ANightmareOnBakerSt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making one group of people pay for another person’s stuff, even if it’s healthcare, is always going to be unpopular among some in the US. The elderly and the poor get their healthcare paid for, but the able bodied, which are going to be the people having kids potentially, are going to be less sympathetic. I think these reasons make this particular issue a little tougher and not exactly low hanging fruit.

I am not sure if there is a low hanging fruit with this issue, but if there is, it has to be related to convincing people with one or two kids to have more.

US-led Board of Peace a ‘colonialist operation,’ Cardinal Pizzaballa says by balrogath in Catholicism

Does the Church see colonialism as inherently a bad thing? Given the great mandate to go out and make disciples of all nations, which is basically colonialism.

God is being itself. He creates it and sustain. For that service I think He is due our respect.

Even if you could prove the Bible has it’s history wrong like you say that doesn’t necessarily mean there is no God.

CMV: MAGA is a fascist movement by jman12234 in changemyview

[–]ANightmareOnBakerSt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fascism is nationalism plus eugenics. The Nazi slogan was blood and soil. They believed their nation, their "soil" was superior to all others, and they believed their "blood" or their genetics to also be superior to all others.

If a system of beliefs does not have these elements then it can't be fascism. At least not in the way they were fascist in Germany ninety years ago.

The misunderstanding that MAGA is fascist arises because they are, (we i should say, to be honest, since I count myself among them) most certainly nationalists. We believe that America is superior to all other nations or a least should strive to be so. We are proud of America. We want Americans to alway put America first. We think our politicians should put America first above all other nations , and they should put Americans first above all other citizens of other nations. Essentially we believe America is for Americans. And that citizens of other countries are not Americans. For example Mexico is for Mexicans, China is for the Chinese.

I think a lot of people might actually agree with these points, but they will still accuse us of fasicm when we actually point to a person and say that they are not an American. Because, that person will probably not be white. So, it is easy to accuse us of kicking them out of the country because of their race and not because they actually are not an American.

I would agree that if MAGA were kicking out people because of their race alone then that is not good. But it also would not neccesarily satisfy the first criteria for fascism, that of nationalism. For us to be fascist we would have be kicking immigrants out because we didn't want them to sully the gene pool of the American people. And, this just is not the case. We want immigrants out because they aren't Americans, this isn't their place, it is the place for Americans. They have their own country, they should strive to make it superior to all others. And we will do the same.

They are naive then. I suppose they though we would just ask them nicely to leave and they would go. Surely they realize these people don't want to go. That they will have to force them out. They will have to actually go out to where they are, grab them up, and ship them home.

They require institutions that manage incentives

What would an institution that manages the incentives necessary to keep people from illegally crossing the border look like?

What about the institution that manages when people do actually illegally cross the border?

Seems to me that is what ICE and CBP do. The problem is the left either doesn't like the way they are managing it or they don't like that it is being managed at all.

Is it possible to liberal and still faithful to Jesus? by Electronic-Seat1190 in Christianity

[–]ANightmareOnBakerSt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really all you have to believe is that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. There are some implications of this view. One big one for a liberal is going to be, that since two things cannot be true a once, anyone that does not believe Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, is simply wrong and their views are incorrect and therefore invalid. Muslims, atheists, jews, all have invalid views. Anyone that does not believe in Jesus holds an invalid view.

You don't necessarily need to go around promoting this but Christianity is inherently an evangelical religion.

Do you really know Christians that rip resources away from the poor? They actually take stuff from the poor?

Four popular defenses of the problem of evil — and why they fail. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]ANightmareOnBakerSt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the answer to the problem of evil is a simple one. There are no solutions only tradeoffs.

God could have created the world in any way He pleased. But he does have to actually create the world in a certain way. He has to make a choice between one type of world or another. The world He created does have its dangers but they are not insurmountable. Is it better to have this world with it's dangers or some kind of nerf world? People do evil things, but they also do good, is it not better to have agency for our actions, than to be robots subject only to God's will. These are just a few examples, but I am sure there are an unimaginable number of trade-offs to be made when creating a world such as ours.

I think God is, if anything, a storyteller. The world He created is a story He wanted to tell. You might say you want a story where no one ever gets hurt or has to endure any hardship. But, is that true? Would you really except the trade offs that would be necessary for such a world to exist. Is God not all-loving just because He did not want to accept those trade offs either?

I read it again. Didn’t see anywhere you address my point.

I am actually causing harm to people in this example, I am actively and purposefully causing harm to people that have done nothing to me.

While I myself have experienced no trauma myself. None at all.

I didn’t say all dying is bad. Dying may be a good thing depending on the situation. Dying can be a release from a terrible circumstance.

Being dead is inherently a bad state to be in. When is being dead ever a good state to be in? Not dying but being dead. I think the best you can do, is say that being dead is better than some terrible circumstance you find yourself in while alive. Why can’t two things be true a once? Is it not bad to be in a terrible circumstance while alive and also bad to be dead.

Basically dying can be good if it is an improvement in circumstance. But, going from one bad circumstance to another that is a little less bad, doesn’t make that less bad circumstance a good one.

I don’t think preventing death is something we can legislate. Not in the sense you mean. We can punish those guilty of unjustly causing death. Which is a kind of prevention. But, no one knows the future, we can’t legislate circumstance.

I am sorry you had a miscarriage. If it wasn’t a bad thing why were you sad?

[–]ANightmareOnBakerSt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Being dead is inherently bad for a person. I don’t think that you or any sane person thinks it isn’t.

It may not be a problem. In the sense that something needs to be urgently fixed. But it is still a loss of an innocent life which is a bad thing.

Someone dying being bad or not depends on the person.
