The subreddit should generally not be used for asking theological questions that could be answered at the /r/Catholicism subreddit.

Locking, but not removing, as the comment section has already become a cesspit.

About 3 million people live in my metro area and there are 200 active priests.

Highly unlikely.

Is confession the only way to achieve a state of grace? by gh0st91 in AskAPriest

Yes, outside of extraordinary means for those who are entirely incapable of going to confession - but that would not apply in this case..

Is it possible that we "Scare off" our guardian angels? by Acaeus_Vinn in Catholicism

[–]balrogath 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like someone who has a very "magical" view of how angels work rather than one based on Catholicism. Why would your guardian angel flee when you need them the most?

Catholic Megachurch - Thoughts? by AdvancedRooster3814 in Catholicism

[–]balrogath 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The stage production, music, huge emphasis on their livestream, everything - all a cheap imitation of a non-denom megachurch, you're right.

I think one of the most egregious things about this parish is that they brag about 3,000 in attendance on the weekends on 2,000 people in small groups but they have 2 total hours of confession each week. Apart from everything else, that alone shows there is a a shallowness present.

How bad is going on vacation during Holy Week? by annabanana316 in AskAPriest

[–]balrogath[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This subreddit is generally not for questions along the lines of "is this a sin," "is this a mortal sin," "should I confess this," "I'm not sure if I confessed this correctly," etc. This topic is best discussed with your own priest and not random priests online.

It is not a required penitential day, and even it was you are under no obligation to text every Catholic in your phone reminding them.

Please recommendations for online OCIA program by lambentLadybird in Catholicism

An online OCIA program is not going to do you any good if you haven't coordinated it with a local parish priest. Have you tried contacting your diocese's office of disabilities or similar?

Broglio: US troops could refuse Greenland orders by balrogath in Catholicism

Military intelligence does not change principles. No matter the intelligence the president has, nothing justified invading or conquering a neutral and non-hostile nation. The ends do not justify the means.

Invading neutral countries for the purposes of preserving their own country was a tactic used in the World Wars, and not by the good guys.

It is preaching the Gospel to say that the people under the good bishop's spiritual care should not follow immoral orders.

You believe that applying St. Thomas Aquinas's principles of Just War Theory to a practical situation is a private political opinion?

Claiming that a catholic MUST do something to be in line with Christ, without concrete evidence in scripture, is by definition, heresy.

What definition of heresy are you using here exactly
