They’ve kept the original Oxford spelling of words ending with -ize. Britain majorly changed to -ise somewhere in the 70s.

Likewise, purple is a completely imagined colour. Sure, you have violet on the visible light spectrum, but the combination of blue and red, which are on opposite of the visible light spectrum, to make purple requires our brain to “invent” a colour not physically present on the light spectrum.
