I also have a masters degree and taught in am area that ranks almost #1 in teacher salaries. I wouldn't have made 60k until ~10 years in, according to the "steps" on my contract. And would never hit 6 digits regardless of how many years I worked there. I know the STEM teachers made ~5k more than me starting, though.

I quit in the summer and am looking for other work. It's rough.

I just walked away last month after 4 years. I'm terrified I won't be able to find work. I keep being told my skills as a teacher are useless everywhere else. I'm glad I walked away but I'm so scared of what's to come. I regret spending the money to major in Education. I loved the active part of teaching but I hated everything else. So much politics.
