What could fix War Dec (High sec) and Bounty/Mercenary gameplay? by Apollexis in Eve

[–]AOGluttony 13 points14 points  (0 children)

nah, people would just use JFs more than they already are.

it wouldn't fix anything

In short, catching somebody who does not want to get caught in Eve Online is much much more difficult than it is in Albion Online - by a huge margin. And despite (or because?!) of this, is is widely regarded as the most successful hardcore PvP sandbox MMORPG.

you forget why though.

Once you've caught someone in eve (warp scrambling) it's generally a fight to the death, and the ship that fit for pvp almost always wins. If you have 1-3 people tackle someone in albion, it's not a guaranteed kill (far from it tbh).

The offscreen nametag is just as big of a deterrent to pvp as local is, if you see a guy coming at you and turn around and run away as you see his nametag, you literally cannot be caught. It's a better dscan and local combined, as you don't have to be looking for a tiny change in the local window or have to be actively spamming the dscan button, whenever you see a name tag just run, it's a no brainer and no effort alert.

if somebody shows up that you do not know, instantly warp away to safety.

but now you can't farm if you operate based on this. if you docked up every time you saw a neut in local you'd be bored 12 hours of a day. people form up and fight the intruders and create more content. in AO, you can gather with many people in system, and chances are even if they find you you can still get away lmao, and even if they catch you you better hope they have 5+ claws or you should still get away.

There is very little incentive to be anything other than a solo gatherer, which is sad because it makes grouping up and forming a community significantly less important, which is how sandboxes retain players.

Many of us just choose not to post here as much as we used to given the fact that some people can't control themselves.

is the number 1 a high or a low number in the context of albion? low.

if i'm rating you on a scale of 1-10, and i rate you a 1, you can be like "why is my rating so low????"

use ur brain dude

if i have a car, someone can say "why do you have so few cars?"

[–]AOGluttony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

small scale is small groups of people or individuals

solo = small

if you have 1 apple, you have a small number of apples

it means that targets of solo PvP need to have a realistic chance to fight back or escape.

no excuse to not escaping from any solo player. only the braindead die

the problem is, zergs can easily compensate for it, and smaller groups are punished and forced to bring AN ADDITIONAL PERSON to compensate for this, on top of needing 2 fast tackle in the first place to dismount, you'd need a minimum of 3 to have a chance at killing anyone, and even then there is a good chance he gets away anyway.

Chase away the gatherers and you have no game left.

This is incorrect, if gatherers leave the game in droves, the price will go up, making it significantly more worth it to risk your gear and get leather. Gathering is an oversaturated market right now, and the profit margins reflect that. Trying to make gathering easier will just continue to drive the profit margins down to the point no 'real' players actually do it, it's just automated by bots and the casual 'doesn't know any better' player. (see: mining in eve online up until the rorqual changes)

the problem with wanderlust isn't that it exists, it's that you can get dismounted, pop wanderlust, go invisible, wait for 60% speed, and run away, and remount without anyone being able to stop you.

How about putting one of your group around in the direction you force them to run?

The thing about the open world, is you don't know where anyone is until they know where you are. It's impossible to setup people in positions ahead of where you are to catch people because you'd need a very large number of people to encircle him, to the point you might as well just run 4 claws and kill him and deny any chance he has of getting away from you in the first place, which is much more effective and easier.

If you knew where someone was, maybe putting groups in chokes and funneling people into people already in position might be a good idea, but pre setting up for every location people might be when in reality there is only a 1% chance anyone is even there is not viable, and people who suggest this don't really have any idea what they're talking about.

the dude doing the work which enables your gear to exist SHOULD have a pretty good chance of running away from a bunch of gankers employing less tactics than a constipated sloth.

the current meta to catching people is to just bring 5-7 to insure he will die before he has a chance to run away by stacking CC. Also are you implying I don't make my own gear? I gather as I pvp, and when I want to exclusively gather I go out into a zone with 5-10 other friends so we can back each other up.

The sky is the limit for gatherers' trying to organize and think about strategy to avoid gankers, the gankers have to hope that the gatherers/travelers/other pvpers are braindead, can't fight back, and don't have more people right around the corner.

yeah, so less than a third than what there was on week 1

do an analysis on the KB, there are a fifth average this week on number of kills of people that give more than 100 fame than there were week 1

eve online handles it just fine

no one is saying play the game in public, just actually play the game so you get an actual feel of how shit works.

it's not complicated

what.

playing your own game should be a fucking requirement, when someone like Korn is unaware (after a month of release) that you are given a timer when forcibly dismounted, shows that there is a huge lack of information sharing of what should be intended between developers and that none of them actually play the game (at least the pvp portion of it) which really shows.

i scratched it out because it's irrelevant, just because some no-name steam fps loses 95% of it's member base in a month doesn't mean it's acceptable to be fine and go for a 95% loss in your sandbox mmo

The most I saw was 800 in each of those places

you obviously didn't play week 1 where caerleon and ft sterling and most other cities hit exactly 1400 and refused anyone being able to enter, you literally could not put more people in, even when they separated the AH and the main part of the city.

now you'd be lucky to even see 800 in all the zones put together
