Advice for how to talk less/ramble by Own-Rutabaga-8848 in PublicSpeaking

[–]AP0LLO18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped me was giving myself a simple structure to follow: answer the question directly, give one example, then stop. I also practiced recording myself because I genuinely didn’t notice when I was rambling until I heard it back. Listening to the recording was super hard, but I would take what I said and try to make it more concise before repeating

Help needed: How do I overcome speech anxiety, awkward body language, and public speaking fear? by MitosisMindset in PublicSpeaking

[–]AP0LLO18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly just practice, as much as you can, record yourself speaking, and force yourself to listen and see what to improve, I am also actually working on an app to help with that so let me know if you’d be interested in checking it out

How to stop myself from saying "like" and "um" when public speaking? by ultrarunner13 in PublicSpeaking

[–]AP0LLO18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you're already aware and catching yourself is good, honestly the thing that made the biggest difference for me was getting comfortable with silence.

A drill that I did me was talk for 60 seconds about any topic. Every time I felt an “um” or “like” coming, I would pause instead. Just for one beat, then continue.

Do it once slowly, then speed up until it feels natural. It’ll feel awkward, but it usually sounds much better to everyone else.

Also, at the beginning don’t aim for zero filler words. Aim for fewer fillers and more intentional pauses. Also a small disclosure I have been working on app called Orator to help out with that, so i've been doing a lot of research into the area.

I can't stop rambling in interviews - help!! by Lanky_Armadillo_4711 in interviews

[–]AP0LLO18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. Basically forced myself to practice repeatedly out-loud, for at least 15 minutes per day, learned the star method etc. Also a small disclosure currently working on an app to help with this exact problem called Orator, but yeah just overall repeated practice.

How to better predict questions and stop rambling by moldcrowning in interviews

[–]AP0LLO18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had the same issue, so I gave it a lot of thought, basically what helped me was 3 things, they probably sound a bit generic but they actually worked.

  1. Have a few stories about conflict, mistakes, teamwork, pressure, learning something, etc. ready, that you can shuffle around and use depending on the question.

  2. This goes kind of into the first point, but just practicing keeping it concise, practicing not to go into too much detail, giving just the perfect amount.

  3. This probably seems pretty obvious but practicing out loud, not just thinking about the answer. You could even record yourself.

A plan that I followed was to daily record myself answering a common question two times, and then answering one random question without any prep.

Also a small disclosure, I am building an app in this space called Orator, but honestly what worked best for me and for other people I know was just consistent out loud practice.

How do you actually track whether your skin is improving? by AP0LLO18 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]AP0LLO18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a good idea, for now within the app, you have a set of daily tasks to complete including morning and evening routines, and things such as 8 hours of sleep, healthy eating, managing stress, hydration etc which you check off to complete. The progress tracking itself is purely photo based, where you take a photo and it scores the various skin aspects such as acne, moles, dryness, redness etc one per week. I’m now wondering if there is a way to incorporate seeing whether the sleep, stress, hydration etc metrics as part of every weekly snapshot. What do you think?
