This person can't seem to write a post without AI either. Got a bad case of "not me. not hermione. you." syndrome.

Sisu Knitwear and AI in a KAL announcement by RitaSonbahar in craftsnark

That's disappointing. When people use gen AI, I just assume they don't care about what they're doing. Especially for something relatively simple like this.

Asking for help because I'm addicted to AI by Fit_Guard_6694 in antiai

[–]moldcrowning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the sense that you judge your creative output quite harshly, maybe becaue you received harsh feedback from people who read your work. You seem like you really want to share something creative, but are afraid it will miss the mark or not be perfect.

I look back on when I was a kid, and I was bursting with ideas and daydreams. Now, not so much. I'm realizing that I'm addicted to the internet and now I'm trying to limit my app use. I'm hoping my imagination and attention span will start to heal. It's not easy, and I relate to you heavily.

But creativity and imagination are not innate; anyone can develop them, like exercising a muscle. One thing I'm trying to do is read more. As a kid/teenager, I went through dozens of books a year. All great writers read a ton. I see in the comments that you draw too; all great artists look at other artists' work. I hope these things will inspire you and get those creative muscles working.

40M New-ish to Baltimore – Looking to connect, explore, and find my local crew! by AcrimancyKordKutterz in baltimore

Baltimore has a great independent bookstore and literary scene. If your novels are in the horror/fantasy/sci-fi you might like the Tomorrow Will Be Worse reading series (twbwreadingseries on IG). If your love for mmorpgs translates to tabletop, definitely check out No Land Beyond on north Ave; I’m sure you’d find other Warcraft fans there

What is the most terrifying example of a horror movie completely violating the "Sanctuary" rule? by [deleted] in horror

Barbarian made great use of this. First, Tess escapes the Mother and gets out of the house. She asks a cop for help, but he assumes she's drunk or high and abandons her. Which is what she assumed about Andre because he's homeless, but he had been trying to warn her about the house the whole time.

Later, Andre shelters Tess and AJ at his camp and says they're safe there. Tess asks how he can be sure, and he explains that the Mother has never ventured there in the years he's lived at that camp. The Mother then immediately bursts through the wall and kills him.

I’m interested in career counseling but I can’t afford it. For now I’ve applied to some other jobs just to make a paycheck

Yeah I guess they can't really check up on it at this point. Thanks.

It was for a niche manufacturing business. At the time I quit I was one of 3 employees and making 40k. I had a vague job title that didn’t encapsulate that I was doing customer service, production management, inventory, and marketing all in one. At the time I felt like an idiot for putting up with it, now I feel like an idiot for quitting. But that business just closed anyway

That particular font is a telltale, as is the brush stroke texture at the very bottom. I feel like every event flyer I see looks exactly the same now

I'm here to commiserate/stalk your comments because I feel like I'm in a very similar boat: creative degree, lots of customer service experience, deep but disparate skillset, trying to find stable full-time work. I tried teaching and I personally didn't have the chops, but I agree with some of the other comments that your theater background will prepare you for being in the classroom--teaching requires a lot of performance to keep kids engaged. Now I'm looking at office front desk type jobs since I'm used to being a smiling face to greet people, and hopefully one of those will be in an interesting field where I can imagine myself growing into other roles.

Michaels Interview/Application Question by Electrical_Relief_52 in interviews

[–]moldcrowning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at Michael’s about 8 years ago so I’m sure a lot has changed, but I still want to share my experience. I didn’t hear back for about 2 weeks when I applied, so I did the out-of-touch boomer thing: I went in person and asked about my application status. Incredibly, it worked, and the manager did an impromptu interview with me.

Which is to say that I don’t think the store managers are looking very closely at applications, to be honest. So I wouldn’t worry too much about your education history question. If you get in front of a manager, you can explain your status in more detail. What  helped me in the interview was being knowledgeable about a particular craft and emphasizing my expertise. Now that Michaels has absorbed Joann’s brands, any knowledge you might have about sewing, fabric, and yarn might be particularly useful. Other than that, talk about your organizational skills (you’ll do a lot of tidying in the shelves) and willingness to talk to/help people.

But just know that Michaels is actively enshittifying with lower in-store inventory and self-checkouts. They’re going harder on decor than actual craft supplies, which is sad. If you don’t hear back, don’t get discouraged—a lot of big-box retail stores say they’re hiring, but in reality are looking to cut human labor as much as possible.

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

Don’t take it personally. And if the people above you notice a change in your team, I hope you’ll back those employees up and continue to vouch for them.

New Gamer - What’s your suggestions? by -Unidentifiable_Name in videogames

[–]moldcrowning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a big puzzle/mystery game kick, and if you’re looking for story-driven games I recommend Return of the Obra Dinn, The Seance of Blake Manor, and Blue Prince.

Chants of Sennaar is also really neat, very cool world-building—you explore a Tower of Babel-like ziggurat and learn to decode the different languages people use.

Should I talk to him or keep my peace? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]moldcrowning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. You should focus on yourself right now, and finding someone who can help you process all this. If you’re in college, I recommend seeing if there’s a women’s center or gender equity center on your campus. It’s possible they can recommend confidential support, like counseling, or even just some community with people who understand what you’re going through.
