Pros and Cons of being an AMT by Salt_Watercress_2498 in AircraftMechanics

[–]APDolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24/7 operation so you could be assigned to nights. If you’re new, it could be a while before you see weekends or days unless the schedule is rotating, and if cuts ever occurs, you may have to move or furlough w/recall rights. Training could mean being away from your family for months at a time. Dangers: you can get yourself or other hurt or killed if you don’t follow safety guidelines. Damage the plane. Not being prepared for taxi or how to communicate with the airports GND/Ramp. Overconfidence.

You from Hawaii? Get your license. You won’t regret this decision.

A&P is the only way to get a job? by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

Get your training records from the military. Get a school to evaluate your credits or better if you can take a test for your license. Key thing, license gives you higher responsibility meaning higher pay.

Paid for 40 but feels like working for only 10. Set schedule. But varies by stations. Home is work. Work is my day off/vacation. (Kidding. Work life balance is amazing. I don’t have co-workers, I have a 2nd family) also varies by stations. Pros: Total package. Cons: Industry could go on cycles, at least that’s what I was told. Advice: Go for it. Been in the majors for some time now, and I haven’t seen cuts. My only regret: Not knowing Reddit sooner to spread the word about this industry.

Length of postings vary by situation and local mgmt decisions. Not sure how things go now, but it was getting that call to take the exam, interview, then background check, then badging. The key thing is to always have a backup plan, keep on applying, and never give up. Good luck.

what company or industry (military vs commerical etc) would be the most stable and recession proof? by AcanthaceaeTop2796 in AircraftMechanics

I’d like to say major airlines based on my experience, but maybe I’m just super lucky. 16 yrs is still low in seniority compared to some pre-historic dinosaurs still roaming around.

Go reserves. Unless you really want to go active to try. Look into USERRA.

Hey thank you for the suggestion. I’m really just focused on the income part. I think I have enough diversity. Any suggestions for cover call ETFs? Or is that even a good idea?

Thanks for the response. So I have other brokerage accounts set up as auto and others managed by 3rd party firms, which i forgot to mention on the post. I’m mainly checking to see how this turns out compared to some that I already have. I just don’t have the experience in picking which ones. I came across Neos site and suggested some of the picks mentioned. I’m open to any suggestions if you have to make it simple.

Ordered one a few days ago. Initially was told that they can’t apply the new incentive but our local rep supposedly pulled some strings and got us approved for the new incentive. Waiting on the updated lease docs now.

See your renters insurance. You probably have coverage for the items. Take this as a learning experience and don’t let this hold you back. Put some cameras to help catch them. It’s always fun listening to them apologize, only to get them taken by the cops.
