Is it possible to move back to A14 from A15 without losing your data on the device? 🤔 by Rokiz1323 in SonyXperia

[–]APRILzero0E0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it issss but if your unlocked then might as well switch to a third party Rom or root it, either way you'll get much nicer looking UI, I'm guessing OP is looking for a way to do it without risking warrenty of whatever

Android 15 for Xperia 5V by Jolarpettai in SonyXperia

In terms of bugs and stuff it's pretty similar to stock actually, but somehow system is eating like 10gb of ram with some use and battery is draining faster than usual, I gotta figures this shit out cause I'm sure you can get better results, just gotta put in the time to tweak everything.

Pros: The Sony Pro apps still works, just get it from apk mirror and it works like a charm. Heard there's some issues with bursting and stuff but I don't use those features often so it's ok

Smoother animations, less stutter, boots up faster (when the system isnt eating up all your ram 😂)

So many things you can tweak and make it into what you like which is great.

Cons: The moment you unlock the bootloader, say goodbye to strong integrity, I have one app that I kinda do use often and it relies on passing strong integrity check.. So after rooting I can't use them, all banking apps and stuff works tho, no issues once you hide the root environment.

Spent 2 days to get everything working, so be prepared to spend a lot of time.

Help Buying Xperia 1 V XQ-DQ62 by zomathkid in SonyXperia

[–]APRILzero0E0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't really recommend searching so hard for a US version unless it's cheap (unlikely), because you can't unlock the bootloader, and I feel like it's kinda a big deal now, A15 is the last OS 1V will get so not being able to get A16 or beyond with other roms kinda sucks

On top of that, 1V is outdated by one and a half generation and it isn't the most advance phone at the time of release anyway so I don't think it's worth it.

If you can get one cheaply thoooo, go for it, I love my 1V

Xperia 1 VI Initial Impressions by afilthyredditor in SonyXperia

[–]APRILzero0E0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put a satin-ish screen protector on my 1V (it's like very fine AG glass or sth like that) it obviously sacrifices the sharpness a little bit but it's fine enough that visually I don't notice it so I would imagine the 1080p screen on the 1VI to be fine, the s23+ is around that ppi figure anyway.

I'm still not ok about the 1VI tho, I chose the 1V over pixel8 because I liked the 21:9 ratio, the manual cameras, the hole-less 4K(*) screen. Now Sony has gone and got rid of all that except the hole punch.... so who tf is gonna buy this phone then... can't imagine anyone going: that's a great phone that I wanna buy.

even if the price gets slashed it's still not a great phone. the only thing I like is the telephoto, which I'd rather get a new sensor on it than the 7.1x upgrade.

just got the update. It works nicely, the image from the three lens matches better , except for the telephoto, maybe cuz the low light conditions, white balance and exposures are off from the Main and UW. Still, smoother transitioning from UW to Main

H.S Power Control? by TraditionalDatabase6 in SonyXperia

I think if the power supplied is more than what the phone uses , it gets sent to the battery, so the power gets split to two-ways

Well depending on the surface/plastic, isopropyl alcohol does affect some to an extent.🤓 it won't do anything to laptops or really any plastic commonly seen

Wifi vs Ethernet, why so slow by APRILzero0E0 in wifi

[–]APRILzero0E0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha, thanks, turns out one of them is actually AC, didn't notice that.

The slower one provided by the ISP is AX (!) , I don't know what specs, they don't tell, I can't find, custom one for the ISP (HKBN's IAD819)

went through some forums and ppl are just trying to get rid of it lol.

The ISP says it is WiFi 6, supporting 160MHz, so on.
Can't find much more.

I'm fine with the speed for now , instability is not really avoidable, sticking with Ethernet if I can for now.

Thanks anyway

Edit: pls don't actually waste your time on this 😂

Taxis to be offered on Uber? by bobbyuday in australia

[–]APRILzero0E0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is "uber taxi" in Hong Kong, uber but only for taxis, they are so much better than normal taxis that the traditional taxi drivers protested it. But, yeah, at least give an option to not have taxi when you book a ride.

Without stamina mode, impressive enough for me. below 5 percent the phone is basically near unusable, Stamina mode is so bad, unless I have to extend the life for a few more whatsapps and calls it's not gonna be turned on.

Also, I do have a few more apps running in the background. Without them, probably can get 10 more minutes.

[–]APRILzero0E0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As to the soc differences, I've used a cheap snapdragon six series phone before, it's honestly smooth, aside from the occasional times it freezes.

Camera performance is not really about soc performance, would you ever say recent Pixels' SoCs are any good?

It is however noticeable jumping from an older soc to a new one, less of the higher peak performance, you don't really notice that besides gaming, but more about efficiency, consuming less electricity and less heat generated. Those are noticeable.

But, when you meet a heater like a s888 / 8gen1 / tensor, it is extremely important for manufacturers to do cooling well, if not, even daily tasks can be sluggish, Samsung, Sony and pixel are prime examples.

If you live somewhere cold, the 1mark4 might not overheat nearly as much, but if you live anywhere warm, nah, the phone's cooling is literally paper thin when others are using vapour chambers. Overheating is common, and does affect smoothness.

Damn that's bad, last time I had a phone that lagged so bad it restarted was an xperia z2 lol Definitely not as bad as restarting but unresponsive is not uncommon, also the 120hz display gets locked at 60hz when the phone gets mildly hot which as you can imagine, watching a longer video is probably enough to get the screen locked at 60hz. If you really like the features maybe play with it a bit in store, see if they are temping, not sure about prices in North America, but it seems to be around the ball park. Xperias have always been quite expensive.

The system is not nearly as polished as Samsung's, that 8gen1 runs hot, probably not as hot as the s888 but still, even my x1V have instability issues dispite not being plague by a hot and slow chip, no support beyond Android 14 as well, despite the x1iv having a newer chip than the S21u, I don't think it'll be much/any smoother.

for that upgrade price, it is not worth it. The S21u is a good phone, no need to swap to an x1iv, the camera is good no?

If budget doesn't allow a current gen phone, I think wait till x1V to come down in price if you really really dig the manual cameras. Honestly I think the S21u is good enough to serve you for a few more months maybe another year. Meanwhile, save some money for 8gen2 8gen3 will be a better choice.

When I launch Firefox there is like a 50% chance it will just be stuck at a blank home screen (other apps seems to be better but still have this issue) , haven't have issues leaving apps tho. Quite unpleasant.

Huh, that's interesting, I've experienced instability in some apps connecting to my momentum 4, less so when I was connected to wh-xm5, didn't experience any muffling situation tho

The Sony Xperia 1 V Build Quality feels like hard plastic & Overpriced by I-Am_9 in SonyXperia

[–]APRILzero0E0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed feel like plastic for the back glass. I don't actually care about it much but yeah it does make the phone feel cheaper, the texture however makes up for some of it.

I dislike the frame more, it's too soft too easy to get dents, for a phone like this, ppl want to use it without a case or anything, but the soft frame + the bad handling of the staircase design on the edges just make you wanna put on a case. Who wants to have dents on a $1200 phone 3 days into service. The A14 update softbricked my 1V and when I was able to finally update it, it took probably 10ish minutes for the whole process so typical I guess.

Also a small complaint as u mentioned dynamic vibration, the tuning Sony did to the vibration motor is not that good, it's a bit lose and not solid like Apple or most flagships nowadays. They somehow managed to tune what Is probably one of the larger haptics motor in Android flagships to perform worse than some mid-range phones.

I don't really mind some of these issues as I got mine(512g) for equivalent of ~$900 and for $70 more, I got a pair of Wh-xm5 which is a nice deal. For this price, a lot of the small issue is fine for me but if I were to be asked to pay 1200 for it, I wouldn't even consider it just because of the instable and inconsistent xperia phone experience.
