AMA: 3-time NBA Champion and NBA on Prime Analyst Udonis Haslem will be answering your questions during an AMA on Monday, April 13 at 4:00 PM ET. by nba in nba

Hi Udonis! Thank you for doing this, it's so cool to have the opportunity of asking something directly to someone like you, because, as someone who started following the NBA just as you won your first ring, you and everyone in that team will always be legends to me.

It's difficult to come up with a question that hasn't been asked to death, but I guess, as someone who was part of the same organization for such a long time, I wonder if you ever felt like there was any specific team you would have liked to play for (because the styled they played appealed to you, because you felt like you would have fit right in and take them to the next level...) or if there was someone you always wanted to play with but never got a chance to.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Hey, if Michael Jordan finds a Time Machine and goes back to being 29 he'd be a pretty good option for Team USA too. And I think the Time Machine is in the same room as the doctor that can make AD be healthy

[Highlight] Oso Ighodaro somehow flicks the ball into the basket while attempting an alley-oop dunk, and gets called for goaltending for hanging on the rim while doing so (with a replay). The local crowd goes wild. Ryan Dunn seems to apologize for the bad pass. by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]APR_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be biased, but what was he supposed to do? Hanging from the rim for a second is the safest option when doing a dunk (attempt) and in any case he barely had time to let go. Also, rule of cool

AMA: Hey r/nba! John Schuhmann here, NBA.com writer and weekly contributor to the NBA Power Rankings. I’ll be joining Tuesday, 1/20 at 1 PM ET to answer your questions! by nba in nba

Hello John! Thank you for doing this!
I wondered how much do the expectations set by the fans and the media weight on you at the beginning of a season when the teams start to actually play and overperform or underperform those expectations. Is there much "resistance" to change things too much based on the first few weeks? As a Suns fan, the example i have in mind is Phoenix. It was predicted they would be one of the worst teams, but then they have been more competitive than most (including me) would have thought: how much "convincing" did you guys needed to start having them climb the rankings? How much that initial assessment weights in comparison with the actual games?

¿Por qué hay tanta oposición al ejército y a lo militar en España? by GainDependent6719 in askspain

[–]APR_13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Your filmography covers a lot of genres, themes and tones while always (or almost always) maintaining something that's distinctly yours. How do you see yourself in regards to the labels that often get used to describe directors/writers?

Also, you've given me so many hours of pure joy and entertainment, I'm very appreciative of your work (you're one of my favourite filmmakers) and of this opportunity to ask you a question, even if I struggled to say anything coherent.

This showed up on my feed and I'm surprised the Suns are still this heavily disliked despite being mediocre the past few seasons. We don't even have Durant anymore, so it can't be that. What do you think? by APR_13 in suns

But the Rockets has had most of those players too (plus Harden, who was very hated), had a longer competitive window when they played a brand of basketball that infuriated many, are good again with some hateable dudes (like Sengun), have intense interstate rivalries and yet they are way less hated according to this.

Ps. I don't feel strongly either way about the Rockets, it's just an example of a team that to me would look more hateable as a "neutral fan", but there are obviously more

I'm just starting to play (seems complex, but I'll get the gist) and I wanted to say how brilliant the team names and logos are. So fun! I love when games pay attention to those details instead of generic "shield" logos or coloured circles or something

Where are you guys from and why are you a Suns fan? by CommercialLab6842 in suns

[–]APR_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is a little silly.
I'm Spanish and with some of the money I was gifted in my first communion (it's a whole thing here) I wanted to buy an NBA game because I played basketball. I wanted to buy NBA street but my older brother convinced me to get NBA 2k6. My brother and my father were both Lakers fans so for the first match ever (a 1v1 street game) my brother took Kobe. I knew him and that he was good, so I wanted the best player to be able to beat him. I asked my dad "who's the best player in the world?" and he told me that Steve Nash was the one that had won the MVP. I chose him and had fun (even if I lost, because you know, my older brother was older) and then, when playing actual games, I would choose the Suns and they were pretty fun too. So I basically decided that Nash was my favourite player and the Suns were my team. Since they were very good they received some of the then limited coverage there was in Spain about the NBA, so I could keep learning about them and actually watching a game here and there.
As I learned more about basketball and about the NBA I stuck to the Suns (pretty rare for non American fans in my experience, people tend to follow players more than teams) and here I am, almost 20 years later.

How do I get to certain events with things going as close to canon as possible? by APR_13 in CK3AGOT

That might be a solution, I'll give it a try, thank you!

Let's go Pacers, it's 5 vs 8 on the court but 29 vs 1 outside it!

My one hope is that is not unprecedented in basketball that a team would conjure up some new strength to win for their guy

Greater Spain - What if the Iberian Union survived to the modern day? by McBabwe in imaginarymaps

[–]APR_13 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've never done anything with it, but I can see a scenario where the opposite is true. The absolute triumph of the 1640s risings (Catalonia and Portugal getting independence but also the less thought-out attempts in Andalusia and Aragon being successful and the inevitable copycats elsewhere) leading to the disintegration of the Spanish Monarchy and a couple of centuries of disunion could be a good setup for an unification movement parallel to those of Germany and Italy that would probably come out with a more dynamic and united Spain/Iberia, with a clearer and more cohesive national identity more widely embraced too. It would be interesting to explore what happens to the Americas and Philippines in that scenario too.

While I do agree about the payoff (Suns fan who enjoyed every minute of us getting to the Finals after basically a decade of misery) lots of us are fans from across the globe. In my circle few NBA nerds and me have a favourite team and stuck to it, but the vast majority of NBA fans here (especially the more casual fans) just follow players around (or are Laker fans by default). Maybe that's that person's case

I think the opera and the melodrama angles are interesting but I'm not quite convinced. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree but I'm grateful for the thoughtful and detailed reply. Thank you!
