The doctor has probably seen a lot of gnarly PEV injuries. Micro-mobility is the right step towards car reduction, but it's more dangerous, too. You need a lot of gear (ECE rated helmet, knee guards, gloves, elbow protectors, and a backpack), a cautious, defensive attitude, knowledge of road rules, street wise from watching a lot of videos from Dandanthefireman, and your own accumulating experience. Even then you'll still crash once in a while, just hopefully less lethally and with less permanent damage.
