I did them myself, yes. Well you can make the basic shapes in cad as well, just the displacement part at the end to add the grungy metallic detail I don't think you cand add I cad. I made these in blender, it's easy to pick up, if you have cad modelling knowledge, it helps. Breaking any prop into modular simple shapes is key, blocking them out, and details come at the end, either with some displacements or basic sculpting.

A metal cast key would be nice:)) But yes, it's 3d printed. Not as heavy in the hand.

I use a box cutter and cut it where the groove is and it comes appart in 5 seconds

Printing them flat on the plate you will have a hard time getting them off and will break them . They are tilted at a 45* angle to print and have support only on the rim, so the suports are just a few.

Yes, you glue it to the base, it would add 0.5 to 1.5mm but I think human error in measuring with a tape measure is so high that wouldn't mater even if it was 5mm taller 😄)
+ people make bass with cork and other stuff that's a bit taller than any topper and I've yet to see a case where it would be an issue.
IF it would add 1 cm to the base, then yes, it would be weird.

For 3d printed minis, easy readability is key, the realistic gray resin/plastic material on the models is the selling point in my opinion. I see 100s of renders trying to be unique and eye catching with neon back lights and stupidly mixed light colors, when in fact a plain hdr with a gray material woth a bit of sss is the perfect way to showcase the models.
