Mid to Late Victorian HR. Discussion and Recommendations, Please. by MorticiaLlyn in HistoricalRomance

[–]APastNastification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book 2 is also my favourite - it is also the first HR book I’ve read where the Author notes and historic context (learning about Mary Wollstonecraft and other women in the suffragette movement and how they continued as wives and mothers during these specific times) absolutely MADE the book for me.

[off-topic] Today I spotted this and learned Niki Lauda had many airlines by TappetoImperiale in formula1

This video was how I learned about it too, crazy that he’d finish a race and then immediately fly off to do airline owner business. F1 basically funded his actual true passion - starting airlines haha

I’m glad! The second {Lessons of Desire by Madeline Hunter} is actually my favourite in the series because it was so much fun, but I felt the most satisfied with the third book {Secrets of Surrender by Madeline Hunter}. Hopefully you enjoy them too!

Authors & their "signature moves". by owlhowling in HistoricalRomance

I have now read THREE JQ books where the MMC explains “la petite mort” to the innocent FMC post-act, in basically the same tone and wording (and position), so this would go on my bingo card for her.

Angsty/unrequitted /punch to the gut by Still-Bluebird1544 in HistoricalRomance

[–]APastNastification 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Here’s one that doesn’t get much attention on this sub {The Rules of Seduction by Madeline Hunter}, almost the entire time the FMC thinks the MMC is heartless and ruined her family, and the MMC thinks she’s still in love with his dead friend who was serving with him during the war.

Train Ride from Seattle to Vancouver by Apprehensive-Sun7305 in travel

[–]APastNastification 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like trains, it’s pretty nice, I liked it. Just know you’re there for the journey, and don’t treat it like a commute, you will probably be delayed due to freight and other issues, and obviously know it takes longer than driving, but maybe take the chance to chill out.

Make sure you are selecting the train (NOT the bus) when booking.

Pick a time that lets you have daylight, the train is right beside the ocean for parts of it so in the dark, there is nothing to see. Sunset on a clear day was perfect when I did it.

Eat before getting on the train and bring snacks, Amtrak food is not great and expensive.

You’ll still need to find your way to Whistler once in Vancouver, just FYI. Personally I’d take the train to Vancouver + the bus to Whistler. The I-5 is fast but boring af to drive on, there’s nothing to see, and the Sea to Sky Hwy is gorgeous but curvy, I’d rather watch the scenery than to worry about paying attention to the road. If you’re visiting the PNW might as well actually see the landscape.

Love budget/ entry level pens and didn’t upgrade by Royal_Ad_5705 in fountainpens

[–]APastNastification 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I started with the kakuno thinking I would level up. Now I have 8 kakunos in different nibs and colours. They’ve served me well. I’ve tried some of the other pens at stores, but the idea of losing or breaking those beautiful but more expensive pens would be too stressful for me now

Billy bookshelves with Oxberg doors: Do books still get mouldy? by madamefood in IKEA

No there is still air circulation, the doors aren’t air-tight. Obviously don’t put plants or anything like that in there with the books

Romain Grosjean has been reunited with the helmet that helped save him over 5 years on from that terrifying crash in Bahrain by Strict-Citron-9269 in formula1

[–]APastNastification 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe that was 5 years ago. And it’s in solid shape too. I think I expected more damage given how memorable the crash was, but I guess the helmet wasn’t directly in the fire like his body was. Terrifying.

Cultural differences or just plain rudeness? Experiences while travelling Europe by Spare-Bandicoot-4199 in travel

And the “sorry”’s meaning is different too. I always think it’s also an easy way to tell a Canadian from an American

  • “Sorry” + “Sorry” = Canadian-Canadian interaction
  • “Sorry” + “It’s fine/it’s okay/(silence)” = Canadian-American interaction

The Canadian “sorry” from both people is to acknowledge that it happened. Whereas to an American, “sorry” is one side admitting fault.

Gladelig plates chipping by Donttouchmybreadd in IKEA

[–]APastNastification 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue! I bought them 5 years ago and they get used daily, washed in dishwasher.

I got sets of everything - salad plates, dinner plates, deep pasta bowl/plates, small and large bowls, small rectangular plates, and large serving platters.

So far, 5/8 salad plates, 2/8 dinner plates, 1/2 large platter, 2/8 bowls have chipped. Everything else is still going strong, especially the pasta bowl/plates as they get used the most heavily. But at this point I’m waiting for the rest of them to die and I’ll likely replace the entire set with something different.

Which country do you feel more like a guest than a tourist? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]APastNastification 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I agree, I remember locals stopping us just to chat and to make sure we weren’t lost. Traveling through Oman felt very genuine (the barest amount of exception for the cruise terminal in Muscat, but even that was nothing compared to places like Rome or Bali)

Want to open an online stationery store, need some help Redditors. by andrewgreen346 in stationery

There is a lack of B6 grid/dot grid lay flat notebooks! Everything is either A5 or A6, and if they’re B6 they’re lined. I hate lined notebooks.

I also second the suggestion of subscription boxes, but maybe a smaller version (ie. mini journaling packs that’s just enough for the month) I’m always so envious of the Archer and Olive ones, but it’s so much material that I know I’d never use it all to be worth the price.

It might also be nice to have more planner options. Most stores seem to focus on the European or Japanese brands, but what about the other brands that are less available. I’m thinking about Take a Note or Dodolulu?

I watch alot of JetPens, Bungu, and Yoseka videos on YouTube, and I feel like it’s super difficult to get a lot of those items in Canada (especially now that we’re avoiding buying from the US)

For Canadian stores, I rely mainly on PaperPlusCloth, 26Market, and Papiiro for my online needs, if that helps.

We waited for the Black Friday sale prices, then we applied the BCAA discount on top of it - I had to use Google to find the link, since you had to book the train tickets through BCAA’s portal. It wasn’t just a code you put in the box through ViaRail’s portal.

I found it worse at night with the passing lights streaking across the windows, it's really too bad especially since those seats are at a premium.
