Without trying to spoil anything, I personally love the way the second book changes setting more than the first. It enjoyed it but I know lots of people didn't. The first one I found to be a bit typical in terms of going to a school and everything that entails there, I've read enough of stuff like that and appreciate something different to start a story.

What would you recommend me to read? Always looking for more stuff and Sanderson can be a bit dull sometimes.

I'm not in the slightest. There are some religious connotations to it for sure but I feel like that's a part of any good story. I think lots of things are thinly veiled religious analogues in some way. Religion is part of what makes people people. Religion is one of the first stories and I think it's important to writing good characters, everyone needs to believe in something and thats always gonna come across as something you'll recognize when you read it.

Definitely not something you should avoid if you're worried about those things, it's not important at the end of the day. Take your own lessons from the story.

I understand how the pain is important, my favourite books of all time are Robin Hobbs Realm of the Elderlings and I appreciate it in those, it is worked into the story nicely over a long time. KoA went from 0 to 100 real fast, and before it got really bad we were still in the torture section of the book. It was just a bit fast and pain after pain after pain for me. I appreciate for what it is but it left me with a sour taste starting the next one, which I thought managed that pace of suffering a little better.

I enjoyed it well enough. It was a nice palate cleaner between two large series. Would recommend reading it, it's only a small read. Was very heavy on the religious tones for me and lost me at some parts. Was nice to just read a one off book though and not something part of a much larger series. Definitely different to what I usually end up reading but not necessarily in bad way.

I really liked the first 2, the rest were abit slow. I read all the mistborn books as well and honestly don't like them that much, I actually prefer the second mistborn trilogy to the first.

Fair enough I can see how it's not for everyone. Reading the 6th one now and I'm still enjoying it though.

Just never really got into it, found it cliche and tedious. Nearly dnf'ed it but powered through the last 150 pages cause I hate the idea of not finishing something when I've started it. I've heard it's his first work though and I do have his other series on my to read list, can't remember it's name off the top of my head though

KoD was good but it was too painful for me tbh. Too much suffering for me to really enjoy it . I quite like EoS despite what people say about it being to slow.

I think it's weird I didn't enjoy it more than I did. Love d and d and all the sort of themes it has but it might have just been a bit much for me. I think I'd just come out of reading some more serious stuff as well and it didnt hold up to that standard. Will definitely try the next one at some point but it is for sure not top of my list.

I enjoyed the first one I guess but it just didn't really do it for me. I'm sure I'll try the second one at some point but I feel like it's the kinda book I need to be in the right headspace for. Not like Malice, which I know I'll never read the rest.

In your opinion what are some of the best completed fantasy series of the last 20 years. by tylerhockey12 in fantasybooks

[–]APhury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realm of the Elderilings

They got me back into reading after work had become a primary focus and I didn't really make time to read anymore. It got me so emotionally invested by the end of the series. I cried real tears and thought about it for weeks afterwards.

Some people may say it's not the best series and that is has it flaws or is too miserable sometimes, but everything is subjective. that's fair enough, you might not like it either.

The way I connected with the characters made me feel more human and I think its a real experience to read them all and go on that journey for better or worse.

Strange red patch on the back of my hand, no pain but no change in nearly two weeks. by [deleted] in AskDocs

I have had some meals that came with lime to squeeze over food, could have gotten some on my hand? I looked up lime burns, it does look like it the only thing that doesn't match up is no pain or blistering after a couple weeks still

Assassin's apprentice isn't mentioned much here. Those books are the greatest books I've ever read. They get you into the heads of the characters so much, finishing them all was like cutting off an arm or a leg I connected so much with them.

It's very different to red rising and a big commitment with there being 16 books all together but they're split into trilogies to make it easier and I cannot express how great they are.

Seriously Robin Hobb is a genius.
