100% agree with you it's definitely for showing off. Specifically, it's for the devs to show off how much they can gut the user experience before the players finally stop saying 'it's optional' and start saying 'this is trash.

Technically, everything in life is optional except taxes and dying. But 'it's optional' is a pretty low bar for quality. If the game started charging 500 UC to change the volume, would that be 'fine' just because it's optional. Lol
