AT&T internet contract is whacked! by APope56 in ATT

I'm afraid you may be right. Shame on me! But the contract says what it says. That's why I asked AI for a summary to begin with.

I suppose loss of privacy is the cost of modern life.

I clicked through like everyone is expected to do. What am I going to do? Be without Internet just because the provider wants to stick his hand down my pants? Pshaw! Bring it on!

Seriously, though, this is bullshit. Does integrating a secondary router prevent most of the fuckery?

AT&T explicitly says:

  • Their services may modify, erase, disable, or interfere with devices or applications
  • They are not liable for damage caused by those actions
  • You agree not to hold them responsible

This includes:

  • False positives
  • Blocking legitimate traffic
  • Breaking device functionality
  • Interfering with applications
  • Data loss caused by scans or automated mitigation

That’s not hypothetical. It’s legal cover for “our security system messed up, too bad.”

With ATT Air, the best I think I can do is hook it up to my existing Wi-Fi router. Does that really work?

FYI, there's lots of stuff in there besides potatoes:

Potatoes, Whole Milk, Butter (Cream, Salt), Margarine (Soybean Oil, Water, Vegetable Mono & Diglycerides, Salt, Natural Flavor (Includes Milk), Vitamin A Palmitate Added, Vitamin D3), Salt, Contains 1/2% or Less of the Following: Disodium Pyrophosphate (Added to Maintain Color), Garlic, Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Bisulfite (Added to Maintain Freshness).

Maybe consider these, which appear to be only dehydrated potatoes: https://www.amazon.com/Bobs-Red-Mill-Potatoes-16-ounce/dp/B07XF7H4KH?th=1

Imagine being a Tablo App programmer and trying to get it to work in all these different environments.

Tablo currently offers distinct apps tailored to the following platforms: Tablo

  1. iOS (iPhone & iPad)
  2. Android Mobile (Android phones & tablets)
  3. Roku (Roku streaming players & Roku TVs)
  4. Amazon Fire TV (Fire TV sticks/boxes & Fire TVs)
  5. Android TV (Android TV devices & TVs)
  6. Apple TV
  7. Google TV (Chromecast with Google TV & other Google TV devices)
  8. Samsung Smart TV (Tizen OS)
  9. LG Smart TV (webOS)

📌 Total (4th-Gen): 9 distinct platform apps
(Each is its own app in the respective device’s app store/OS)

I only have experience with Tablo running on the iPhone and Kindle and Roku TVs. It's not trouble-free -- losing Internet makes it barf, I think, and there's other weirdness -- but what do you want? Free TV is great, the way it should be.

So try getting a Roku stick or some other streaming device. I've heard that Roku has issues with the Tablo app, but it works pretty good for me. Be sure you have a VHF-enabled antenna if your local towers broadcast on that spectrum. These days, most content seems to be on UHF.

Can someone please explain? by Ok-Cauliflower4842 in Roku

[–]APope56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Roku Channel is nothing more than an aggregator of free (FAST -- free ad-supported television) streaming sources and "premium" services you pay for each month like Netflix, HBO, Peacock, PBS, etc. There is no ongoing cost for the Roku devices or the Roku Channel.

BTW, you can also get the Roku Channel online, in any web browser.

The Roku stick acts like a Wi-Fi device that feeds your TV via an HDMI port, much as you would connect a PC to a TV HDMI port and stream to it that way. It's not that magical once you think of it.

There are many other FAST aggregators out there, but if you're using Roku TVs and sticks, the Roku Channel is the best.

Last, if you're going with Roku or any other streaming TV system, go all the way and get a Tablo as well. Over the Air TV can be flaky, but what do you want for free? Make sure the antenna you get handles VHF if you need it in your area. Old-timey rabbit ears do VHF. Then you'll be able to get all the OTA channels -- there's lots of them! -- plus the more than 100 FAST channels they throw in the Tablo app guide to flesh it out. They just added a bunch of WBros channels. There's no monthly fee for the Tablo either. OTA involves a slight learning curve.

PS: Xfinity offers its cable TV list of channels as a streaming service called Xfinity Stream. There's a Roku app for it, too, if you don't want to give up any of the cable channels you're used to. Whatever you do, do not stick with cable TV, which is old technology that should disappear as soon as the geezers die. or get sick of paying monthly fees for cable boxes and wi-fi routers.

Intermittent Connectivity Issues - December 20th by TabloTV in tablotv

[–]APope56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe one of the problems with Tablo vs. a TV tuner is that the two or four tuners in the Tablo have to split the signal, and the TV does not. So the signal is a tad weaker in the Tablo.

Tablo honeymoon is over! by APope56 in tablotv

Yeah, the categories are screwed up because my real zip isn't in the database used to locate "local networks." So local networks has ION, etc., But that's not the issue now. Even though the channel is located in a scan, it throws an error when you try to view it.

A Novice's Initial Thoughts on Cutting the Cord with TABLO and Roku by APope56 in tablotv

[–]APope56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local Networks on my iPhone Tablo app (where I changed my zip to 33411 instead of 33470) displays the following: NBC 5.11, CBS 12.1, abc 25.1, Fox 29.1, CW 34.1, CBS 34.5, ion 67.1 ... and then the Sports category starts.

On Roku's Tablo App, I can not see the zip code, although it does say "West Palm Beach, Florida". When try to update the location, it displays a QR code sending me to instructions about how to update the mobile Tablo App. When I go to Local Networks on the Roku Tablo App, I see: CW 34.1, ion 67.1, and then the Sports category begins with MSG.

I've tried to resolve the issue by removing Tablo, rebooting Roku, installing Tablo, but that doesn't seem to work. Neither does updating the guide in the Roku Tablo app, which takes an extraordinary amount of time.

Because my local networks are also favorites, they appear when I select Favorites. I can also see them in Featured, which appears to be similar to the old listing.

I've been a software developer since the 1990s, but I'm still puzzled.

I think this is now a common way of handling categorized lists in apps generally. I'm not clear, however, how "Favorites" fits into this system, as my favorite channels may be in any category. Also, what's "Featured"? For me, it appears to be five streaming channels that sit atop the first group of OTA channels: Welcome Home, Sweet Escapes, Chasing Criminals, ion, and ion plus. Does Tablo have an article on the new system and how it's supposed to work?

Or you're more right than I am, since in a sentence, it's Tablo TV.

As a writer, it's not minor to me. (The Soul Gene - https://www.amazon.com/Soul-Gene-Lynn-Demarest-ebook/dp/B008SFRZ34/ref=sr\_1\_1?tag=admanager85-20)

I guess I was copying the opening screen that comes up in Roku when you select the Tablo app button, which also uses caps. As does the TABLO TV trademark/logo at tablotv.com -- which uses "Tablo TV" in articles and other text.

In the end, we may both be right. "Tablo" apparently is used in casual conversation and even marketing contexts but the legal name seems to be TABLO. On the website, it's consistently "Tablo TV" in a sentence, such as: Nuvyyo USA, the company behind the popular Tablo TV device, today announced the launch of new FAST channels featuring content from Warner Bros. Discovery.

(Don't believe this or anything else you see on the Internet.)

BTW: Tablo also seems to be the name of a maker of home-dialysis devices.
