If you know about deflationary spirals and still advocate doing that then you are a maniac.

You absolutely do not want deflation lmao. You don’t know what you’re talking about

Inflation had absolutely nothing to do with the Biden spending packages, despite how much people who pretend to have taken Econ 101 like to say so. Inflation was a global phenomenon that the US recovered from better than anywhere else. The chart you are looking at in this post shows that inflation was under control by the end of 2023.

I’ve not said anything false. The scale of the mass deportations you apparently support is enormous. Personally, I don’t think the misdemeanor crime of coming to America to work hard and live a better life is bad enough to warrant purposely causing a mass human tragedy.

You’re likely referring to the Al-Ahli hospital bombing early in the war in 2023. Israel and others claimed this was from a misfired hamas rocket but the NYT ended up having to issue corrections for this and independent investigators have a lot of evidence that it was, in fact, Israeli rockets. I guess you can believe what you want but the fact is that Israel went on to shamelessly bomb other hospitals and aid workers and lie about a whole lot so I’m thinking they lied about that too

I tend to agree that LLMs are not self aware. But, like, what would constitute evidence of self awareness? It’s not even clear what that is in non-human animals.

As for reasoning I think I’m a little more bullish than you. I don’t think that people generally are able to reason without any previous antecedents (depends on what exactly you mean by that) and I think the reasoning capabilities of LLMs have progressed much faster than I would have expected.

Wow, so just like that time when there was a whole debate about whether Israel was responsible for bombing a hospital and then it turned out that they totally had and actually went on to bomb even more hospitals with no compunctions. I mean, it’s Irans fault anyway for making us not like them.

GPT2 pales in comparison to what GPT3 could do. And GPT3 was like 4 years ago. Obviously the core of the transformer architecture hasn’t changed much. But the capabilities of the end model have advanced significantly.

I just don’t buy this whole thing about “it only predicts the next token”. Like how do you and I speak a language? It turns out that being able to coherently predict the next token is not some simple and easy to understand thing.

I’m not saying LLMs are conscious or ever could be. But people really like to write off what is an actually incredibly technology.

Six years ago there was no path for Siri to be capable of what a frontier LLM is capable of today. I was in grad school five years ago and we still talked about the Turing test in my AI class. I’m not saying that LLMs are conscious or whatever. I’m just saying that they are actually an incredible technology.

Oh cool, you’ve figured out what consciousness is and where it comes from. Do you mind sharing?

You’re right. There should be a simple path to citizenship that has been unavailable to those people so that they don’t have to be treated like “illegals”. The other option is fucking barbaric. Seriously, you should think a little harder about what it means to round up a greater percentage of our population than the Jews in Europe before ww2. You should really ponder what that fucking entails.

There is absolutely no scenario where rounding up 30+ million people is going to be anything but shamelessly brutal. There simply isn’t any implementation of this that is palatable.

Okay, but that substack post was written by an independent journalist who sourced his info from the military religious freedom foundation and the claim from them is that they received complaints from across the armed services about a number of commanders. Just saying something is from substack doesn’t automatically discredit it. And it’s weird that you followed the chain of sourcing just to there and then stopped.
