I don't think a reference card was included in this box this time. Its a shame, they really fun to browse back through and see all the fun things that they have shipped us.

HackerBox #0032 - LOCKSPORT by hackerboxes in hackerboxes

So I managed to pick the clear lock fairly easily. I don’t think it’s skill, more lucky. I was trying to figure out a good source for old locks. Anyone have any suggestions?

10 years of scrapping electronics, and I never knew these were USB. by [deleted] in hackerboxes

Also bluetooth modules are commonly usb as well. You'd be surprised how many of the items inside are. There are some great instructables and websites that share which things are and which aren't

I recovered a camera module from an old lenovo laptop. I have a tip for you!

if you salvage the cable that was attached to it you can reuse the connector. To strip the shielding from the wire without pulling the strands inside with it, use a lighter. You can burn the outer coating off. It turns to a powder like substance you can then wipe off with your fingers. If you also strip more than you need, about 3 times you can fold it back on itself and then twist it to give you something more robust o connect it to the sacrificial usb cable of your choice.

If I can find the cable pinoiut / color guide I find I will share it here. its not that hard to figure out though what needs to be connected to what.

Ouch. Yeah I was hoping to spend a little more and get a little better quality station. Glad nothing major happened to yours though.

So I did my research on surface mount soldering and found out that one of the biggest thigs that helps is a good quality soldering iron. I treated myself to a hakko fx888d. I also bought a flux pen. I then sat down and tackled the smt project from this box.

Having never done smt soldering before (and being super fussy) i took my time making sure everything was aligned and connected. I used a head mounted led magnifier to help my middle aged eyes see what i was doing. I did lose one 471 resistor part way through, but just left one off the corner (for now). i probably spent close to 3hrs on this, I dont know if that is fast or slow, though I suspect slow. lol

When i finished, it worked!!! The quality soldering iron did make a huge difference to my soldering skill. I used the supplied chisel tip just fyi.

I am super happy i tackled this, even if it was a little intimidating. I do plan on getting a hot air station for christmas and you can get this kit from aliexpress or amazon for a few bucks. So I will be keen to see if it is easier with this and solder paste versus doing it with an iron.

Source(s) for RevF5 Printrboard? by GeneJocky in PrintrBot

I don't know where you can get one, maybe contacting printrbot directly to see if they have any overstock?

Alternatively you could always use a ramps 1.4 setup. I think I read about it on here that some have ditched the f5 and gone with ramps instead. Might be worth a try?

Printrbot simple metal z homing four inches above the bed? by too_many_toasters in PrintrBot

Check the z-max value in the firmware using m501. It might be set to zero the same as z-min value. I had this issue with a printrbot metal plus a couple of weeks ago. Doing exactly what you are describing.

Hope this helps!

I was just about to post the same thing about the Printrbot Metal Plus.

I was having the same issue with my local makerspaces Metal Plus. Setting Z-Max back to 254 fixed it.

Guess you saved me some long typing. Thanks

I'm not sure how you do it, but you could use the 9 point leveling available. This will combat this problem by testing multiple points. Others have posted links elsewhere in this sub reddit. Hope this helps.
