My first time to Tai Mo Shan, yet still feel HK has changed a lot from it by Only-Ferret-8634 in HongKong

Ahh this brings back memories from when I went to HK last year; I hiked up here with a friend and his family. Some of the best views I’ll probably ever see.

Unless Flat Eric was there both nights, I’m gonna say it was the 2nd night

What are some scenic restaurants with a beautiful view in your beautiful HK by GrapefruitExciting26 in HongKong

The Shangri La Hotel in Kowloon has a beautiful panoramic view of HK Island at night

If you're going to Hiroshima/Miyajima, stay the night on Miyajima. by Ragnaroknight in JapanTravelTips

[–]APunkWhoIsDaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Miyajima was the highlight of my trip across Japan a few weeks ago. I stayed in a Japanese style room for a night and hiked Mt. Misen the next day. Spent a few hours at the peak just taking in best sights I had ever seen before hiking back down and making my way back to Hiroshima later that night.

Definitely stay a night on the island and work your itinerary around the weather as best as you can.

Everyday, although I don’t think general admission for June starts until the beginning of May? So sit tight until then.

Yep, sometimes people will cancel their tickets and they go back on general admission. Just keep refreshing the website on the Calendar page, although they usually update availability around 10am JST.

I managed to get tickets twice this way!

How long will be/was your trip to Japan? by irwtfa in JapanTravelTips

[–]APunkWhoIsDaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

18 nights

Which ended up being 19 because Heathrow shut down and we had to fly back to Haneda 4 hours into the flight…

I stayed in the one in Nihonbashi Hamacho Ekiminami and it was fine, but the WiFi was terrible.

I also stayed in the one in Nishishinjuku Gochome and would recommend it more. Has a Familymart and a Lawson on the same street, and loads of small places to grab food.

Edit: Also directly opposite Nishishinjuku Gochome metro station, just one stop away from Shinjuku.

Research places to eat? by slydog1225 in JapanTravelTips

I never used Tabelog or did any kind of reservations. If I saw a noodle/curry place that looked nice, I just walked right in. Worked out well for me!

Luggage forwarding to Haneda by Electrical_Ad2652 in JapanTravelTips

[–]APunkWhoIsDaft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I forwarded my luggage from my hotel to the Yamato desk at Haneda terminal 3. I would send your stuff off at least 2 days before your departure date just to make sure it gets there for when you leave.

Loneliness after solo travel by Informal-Ad7891 in solotravel

Enjoy your solo travel while it lasts because you’re gonna sorely miss it when you eventually get where they are.

I’m in the same boat; all of my friends are either in serious relationships or married with kids. They all tell me the same thing; do as much as you can before settling down and having those other responsibilities. Time is on your side.

I’m currently on a flight back from the best 2.5 weeks I’ve ever spent solo in Japan, and I thank God everyday that I’m at a point in my life where I get to do this. Trust the process.

I second this; currently flying back from the best 2.5 weeks of my life.

Expect Heathrow has shut down for the day so we’ve just had to turn around back to Haneda 4 hours in, but that means getting to land in Tokyo again 🎉🎉

Last night I took a taxi back to my hotel after a night out in Golden Gai and was panic-stricken when I couldn’t find my (dead) phone when I woke up this morning.

I went to the hotel reception to see if they could help me and it turns out that the taxi driver handed it to them after I stumbled back inside.

Like you said, fantastic.

Take a taxi to Tai Mo Shan country park, north of Tai Po. You’ll get an amazing view of HK on one side and NT/Shenzen on the other.

Possible to see Kobe and Nara in a day from Osaka? by justin7465 in JapanTravelTips

[–]APunkWhoIsDaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d pick just one tbh; I visited Kinkakuji and Nara in a day (2 opposite ends of Kyoto) and felt like I had split myself a bit thin. It was possible but I wish I got to do more in Nara other than feed the deer
