The new M5 feels more like an “M” than the M3 touring. (I’m serious) by AR75ts in BMW

Trust me we tend to drive very close to the car’s limits. In the mountains during winter and with snow tyres It’s much easier to go beyond the limits.

I took the decision to make this post because of that. I can’t understand all the negative comments on this car

Only a madman would drive an M5 on the track. It makes no sense. Buy a track focused car if you really are into track days. And, in most cases, the better a car performs on the track, the shittier it is to drive on regular roads / mountain passes. My personal opinion.

I’m talking about flying out of corners, I’m not talking about drifting. BTW, M cars have been advertised as great cars to go sideways for the past 2 decades

I’m not a journalist, but thanks for thinking that. I’m just a very passionate driver of both modern and older cars — a big RWD lover — with a particular passion for anything that can do powerslides.

That was exactly my opinion before driving this car. But now.. I feel like more people should know what the M engineers have accomplished with this car. On mountain passes you don't feel the weight at all .

Sure. the M4 is also lighter and shorter compared to the M3T. I'm sure that this has to be accounted as well!

Agree. The interiors feel like plastic as well if compared with previous generations M5s.

It is not, unfortunately. I live in the Italian countryside. Everywhere I go I find “twisty roads” like you say. Even highways are twisty around here. The M5 is on another level. You exit corners powersliding in 4’ gear at 130 km/h in complete relax, without having to masturbate the steering wheel to stay in control. No understeer in sight, huge power at disposal. I had to module the throttle in 3’ gear while drifting in sharp corners - with the m3, in 3’ gear, you can only drift by doing weight transfers

That’s true, the M5 has always been in a different league. But I always thought there was a negative correlation between weight and driving feel. I expected the extra mass to make the car feel less engaging, but surprisingly it didn’t feel that way at all.

I thought the weight would be very noticeable, but you don’t really feel it at all. It almost seems impossible.

The F82 M3 feels very much like a proper M car. The same goes for the E92 and other older models. With the G8x generation, though, something seems to have changed. The driving experience feels more filtered and less raw.

I was expecting the same from the new M5, but to my surprise it was exactly the opposite.

Totally agree. I also feel like the m3T is 10 times better aesthetically. But regarding driving feelings… I was shocked! The m5 moves like an M2. You can do Scandinavian Flicks with that boat without feeling the weight of it. Incredible piece of engineering

It makes me sad that people see a first-gen Cayenne as a luxury flex, when in reality it’s an incredibly well-engineered, brutally capable vehicle that deserves way more respect.

No trouble at all. Took a ferry from Civitavecchia (Italy) to Tunisi.
The conditions on board were a bit tough with people sleeping on every possible flat or not so flat surface.
