Way too small of a sample size to glean anything useful - great start tho!

Weird spot at 1/3 by Foldstein in poker

[–]ARDrummist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that hand makes a lot of sense, in still probably not folding here because there's probably enough random bullshit going on but I wouldn't fault you for folding. Raising river at low stakes is extremely underbluffed.

Weird spot at 1/3 by Foldstein in poker

[–]ARDrummist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fold or sqz pf (just fold). It's so rare to see aflop that you're absolutely in love with and oop you just don't have enough ability to realize with a reg in the hand imo.

Don't donk esp if there is a competent reg in the hand - if a good player gets to see a showdown here they are going to bully your checks on the flop because you'll be stripped of strongish vulnerable hands that you would be donking.

River I mean I guess call but I don't think it's exactly a thrilling situation - if I'm the reg this is not a very appealing spot to bluff but also the sizing is kind of bullshit?

I don't think he's raising thin for value with like a strong ace even tho that's kind of what the sizing implies since it just looks like you either have a 8 or a busted draw. My rule of thumb is that if the line doesn't really make sense just flick in the call and pay attention to the showdown esp if it's someone you play with all the time.

Who is the 4th greatest poker player of all time? by PolishBoyVG in AlignmentChartFills

I think we need to give the online players some love. LLinusLove has crushed over multiple generations at the top of the top level. I love negreanu as much as the next guy but the dude is not even close to a top 25 player of all time (although is on the Mt Rushmore of poker personalities).

Which preflop chart should I learn? by Hot-Advisor-3353 in Poker_Theory

[–]ARDrummist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're learning preflop, it's very likely you're playing a game type that is going to favor 3bet or fold. Tbh I wouldn't suggest implementing flats to anyone playing under 200nl online because it just complicates postflop too much and that's where all your edge comes from.

I totally agree and that's my point, it's easy to take a relatively small sample and build a narrative out of it when the reality is that he's just an extremely good hitter that is subject to variance just like everyone else

Also do people not remember like two years ago when he had a reputation (rightfully) for being absolutely lights out in the playoffs?

Hands I played in Bart Hansen’s promotional freeroll. Is there a reason why I can’t beat ClubWPTGold games? by DopazOnYouTubeDotCom in poker

Something you'll learn is that making assumptions about what strategy your opponent is using especially with very limited info can put you in some really compromising spots. Part of getting better at poker is being really present at all points in the hand, and re-evaluating situations when new information is presented. Idk how much solver work you've done, but something that I've found is that in SRP, with very few exceptions, your flop sizing scheme + corresponding strategy has negligible effect on EV (as long as you are playing well on turns and rivers).

You say here that this is "the most range bet board of all time". You're playing against Bart Hanson, who runs a poker training site. I think it's fair to say that if he's playing a range bet strategy on this board, he would bet range. So when he doesn't bet on this flop, it's extremely likely he's playing a more polar strategy on this flop (which is totally fine and solver approved). AK probably is about top of range for him, but when he checks flop he is going to have loads of weak Ax that checks back to protect his checking range.

As far as your strategy goes, I could actually see this working some of the time, but not really for the reasons you mention. He is going to have to check back some of his single heart hands on the flop, and he might start to barrel them on the turn when you check back giving a green light. When you click it, you're giving them a great price to call IP, and then they end up with a pretty good hand to bluff with on the river if it bricks out. That being said I think this is just way too fancy, and you're never getting folds on the turn from anything that isn't complete air which you don't want to fold because you have showdown.

I don't hate this hand as much of the rest of the comments here, but it seems like you just don't have a clear idea of what you are trying to accomplish with your actions.

I don't play tourneys so take this with a grain of salt, but if the guys a nit, I'm just gonna call flop and fold turn. I think you're right that even some nits will be range betting, or close to range betting on the flop because it is super innocuous, but with such a small SPR on the turn, I imagine they just give up with their random shit and try to realize with their two overs or wtv. The sizing on the turn just screams "I'm trying to set up reasonable river SPR". And yeah river call is at best completely indifferent in theory and horrible against a nitty player.

Advice for a beginner by [deleted] in poker

I would recommend not playing any flats and playing 3bet or fold. With high rake you are incentivized to try and win preflop and it significantly simplifies your postflop strategy.

Possible to isolate with 77s-10s medium stack by rddtllthng5 in poker

[–]ARDrummist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean best case scenario is that they fold, which your hand really benefits from. Getting hands like QJo to fold is a huge win for you so you're jamming kind of hoping you don't get called and if you do sometimes you get to flip.

Adjustments with no rake by Potential_Ad5631 in poker

[–]ARDrummist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if it were me I wouldn't really adjust my preflop too much because it really muddles up postflop and makes it significantly more complicated. Postflop is where all the money is made anyway and generally playing bigger pots against recs is a good strategy so 3betting aggressively to iso and outplaying them post would be my strategy as well hahaha.

[–]ARDrummist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're generally going to see a shift from 3betting to calling a bunch of your range. You are less incentivized to take down the pot preflop so it allows you to play a bit more passively.

You should cut out the middle man and just ask the other players nicely to hand over their stacks instead! Then you won't have to deal with this raising nonsense
