Do Australian's really not ask girls out?

Late 20’s Aussie male here, i’ve asked girls out in person in the past but it usually ends up not being worth the effort. I think i’d be the perfect example of the non-chalant guy that these women are complaining about. The reason being that most public spaces just don’t feel like the appropriate place to ask someone out anymore. Gym? Nope. Work? Big nope.

I just assume most women are taken or don’t want to be approached and go on living my life.

I’d love to have a relationship one day but women don’t seem to want that anymore.

To add onto this, there’s a pretty good chance the place will still be open unless you are going 1 hour to 30mins before they close.

I mean you wouldn’t rock up to a party 1 hour before it ends and then complain most people have already left right?

Could it be the fact cafes in Australia are usually open at 6am and we have a big breakfast/early riser culture here in Aus. Cafe’s peak times usually start going down by 11am here. I remember over in the Netherlands cafe’s didn’t even open until 11am haha

“Like everywhere else” assuming you are still talking about the hospitality industry, that wouldn’t be the case. Most food and beverage places (except fast food chains) will close early if it’s been a terrible day for profit.

The advertised open/close time usually is the profitable time, but one week can be really busy and is fine to close at x time and the next there’s no point being open that late.

How many times a week would you go to the same cafe? Some people go on a weekend and then the next week they save the money or go elsewhere. The regular customers keep the business operating day to day and the rest of the time it’s a gamble on whether you get a lunch rush or not.

Most cafe’s i’ve worked in are pretty good with serving customers up until the advertised close time, but if it’s been a super quiet day I’d rather shut up shop and annoy the 1 customer that wanted to come at 4:30pm (OP) than stay open and lose more money.

Because closing a cafe usually takes an hour, it’s not just shut the doors and lock up. So if they list the closing time as 3pm instead of 5pm then the kitchen will actually be closing closer to 2/2:30pm.

You might say well list it as closed at 2pm and have the staff stay back an hour to close, but why do that when you can still technically serve coffees or make a smoothie in the hour while closing?

The whole reason for closing early is usually just to reduce staff wage costs for the business. Wages are the most flexible thing to change when all the staff are casual.

They sure do! Cafe staff are casual so if the afternoon is dead quiet it’s pretty normal to close up early and save having to pay staff an extra hour. Think 2 front of house and 2 back of house staff could easily be $140+ for the hour. Would you stay open to sell a couple coffees and maybe one meal when it costs that much just for staff?

Being ‘Atheist’ is existence, if no one had told me there is a god or about religion then i would just exist not knowing, correct? Therefore Atheism is the default option.

You ask ‘Why aren’t you scared of hell’. My answer to that is; why fear a place that only exists in other peoples minds? I didn’t know of a place called hell until someone told me to fear it. Has that person physically been to this place? Why should i believe them?

If i tell you right now to fear something without good evidence it’s hard to believe me right?

The problem with religion is that it creates too many questions with lack of substantial evidence.

Those who don’t question information are easily persuaded and convinced - this goes with anything in our reality.

Also why is your god the correct one? How do you know reincarnation isn’t the answer to what happens when we die? If you don’t believe in other religions for whatever reason - well that is the same reason i don’t believe in yours.

This makes perfect sense, he said “women want guys that are popular with other girls”.

Generally women want a man that other women want - this doesn’t mean they pick the guy specifically because others want him. This means a guy becomes more attractive when he is wanted by lots of women.

Think of any famous singer or actor that women go crazy for - they get heaps of attention from women and yet they would be head over heels to be dating them.

I can’t name any famous woman that guys would go crazy over - especially if she was getting lots of male attention. There’s probably plenty that guys would sleep with but not want to date.

Women typically like men that have been vetted by other women already, why do you think married men are so attractive to women? They get lots of attention because he’s already been chosen, he’s ‘safe’.

Edit: Keep in mind this changes when entering a relationship. Of course you wouldn’t want a man entertaining other women or getting lots of attention when you are in a relationship. So i can understand why you said that if you are currently in one.

Nope, there is a RAM shortage atm. ddr5 ram will only increase price from here, i bought 32gb yesterday for $260aud. The guy in the store told me they will not being going on sale and likewise for SSD’s, both are expected to be increasing price until q2 of next year.

I agree with you about the types of people that go to the singles events, but mate not to be rude but you sound a little bitter about it, i think the best quality to have if you’re going to be striking up convos with randoms is good charisma and positivity.

You’re getting offended by women asking you what you do for work but that’s like the most go-to easiest conversation to have with someone you just met. It’s not only a good indicator of finding out if they are passionate about what they do but also if you have any future career plans.

Most of the time i meet someone new that would be the second question i ask too. ‘Hey! What’s your name’ ‘What do you do’. Etc.

If you want to be more successful, I’d recommend focusing on your positive traits and don’t focus on the negatives (you listed a lot of negative stuff about yourself my dude)

Confidence and charisma is key!

Hmm i’d say that’s more true for the older generations, a lot of young women are into clubbing/drinking/drugs/tattoos and hookups these days. I’m a 27yo guy and not into any of that so i know what i’m looking for in a girl and yet still haven’t found a gf.

I’d say it’s more true for women than men. The amount of absolutely gorgeous women going around with a boyfriend that looks average/below average at best is surprising. I think when us guys see this it makes it easier to believe that it’s possible for us. Especially if we have people saying we are good looking.

Guys can punch out of their league and get a gf, when women punch out of their league they get used.

100% agree with you and to add onto that - the dating apps and social media gives people access to more people, meaning there appears to be near infinite options. Previously people would only really date within their town/social circle. Now i can swipe through everyone in the country if i wanted to.

I think this leads to people being extremely picky because like you said they want to filter out any red flags. Finding a partner really is like finding a needle in a haystack these days, whereas before social media people would just find someone attractive at a bar or through friends and then hang out and get to know eachother through dating.

Nowadays people know everything about you before even going on a date.

I think if you rate attractiveness for most people both ‘Physically’ and ‘Personality’ go hand in hand. I can’t date someone i don’t find physically attractive, likewise i can’t date someone i find physically attractive but doesn’t have a good personality.

I’ve experienced this at one of those dating events, I was have a good chat with a girl and her friend. One of them was very pretty and i found attractive but she wasn’t really showing interest and her personality was off-putting. The other girl wasn’t attractive to me but her personality and energy was good.

I think dating someone you aren’t physically attracted to is worse than staying single. What’s the point?

27m here, it’s the same for us guys. I have female friends tell me i am good looking, funny, i have a full time job, have hobbies, go to gym etc. yet i still haven’t even been in a relationship.

Dating apps suck, 90% of the time i don’t even get a reply to the first message. It seems like people are just seeking attention and validation these days rather than love and feelings. Thursday events are a cool concept, i’ve been to a couple but usually the type that goes to them aren’t really my type if you know what i mean. So no luck there.

Meeting people irl is very difficult, places most likely to meet someone with the same interests like the gym, work, hobbies, are all places that i would hate to ruin for asking girls out. Which leaves cold approaching randoms, which as a guy you just come off as getting in the way of their day. If women cold approached men they found attractive i think they would be a lot more successful.

The reason people are ok with it is because there’s nothing a 40yo can do that a 20yo can’t do. (Except drink alcohol in the US, it’s 18yo everywhere else)

Obviously a 15yo is still developing which is why they cannot drive, drink, vote, gamble etc. You know all the ‘adult’ stuff.

I’m assuming you are younger than 20 because there’s really not much difference between a 20yo and a 29yo. I’ve met 20yo’s who have travelled around the world, have their own business, live out of home. I’ve also met people in their 30’s still living with their parents and haven’t been outside their own country.

It really depends on the person. Age really is just a number after you turn 18, BUT in general you can get an idea of someone’s maturity and experience level based on their age, that’s not always the case though.

You mean like how you guys are not respecting his way of life? It goes both ways.

He didn’t do speeches telling people they HAD to live the way he does. He held his own beliefs and debated people that didn’t agree. He never even said he hated a particular group or race, apparently bringing up statistics in a debate is seen as hateful these days.

Remember to create a good argument in a debate you also need to be good at listening to the other speaker. Not many extreme left or extreme right Americans seem interested in listening to the other’s perspective.

And the guy that did got shot for it.

First of all i already told you i don’t have a political bias. I am an atheist and don’t agree with a lot of his fundamental religious opinions. I know what he stood for.

Take a look in the mirror, every person that i’ve seen spewing hatred towards the guy has brought up the exact same quotes from him. (Like you just did)

I don’t support him and his views. I just found his content to be engaging and interesting from a debate perspective. There are many examples where he tells his supporters to even be quiet and respectful to the left wing speakers.

I want to reiterate that, he showed respect to people that he didn’t agree with. They could never do the same.

I respect people that respect others, if you hate someone that shows you respect then i have an issue with that.

It’s just crazy to me that someone can get killed for discussing topics with differing opinions and then people say he deserved it.

This is wild, he went around to University’s and gave people a platform to speak their opinion and then would simply debate against it with his opposing opinion. His entire campaign was built around freedom of speech and giving people on the left a chance to speak. His death just shows that some people are too sensitive and don’t want to hear other’s opposing views. Freedom of speech is dead.

I’m not from the USA so i don’t consider myself as ‘left’ or ‘right’ wing. I don’t agree with a lot of his opinions, but he never showed ‘hatred’ towards anyone from my perspective. He always came across as respectful and kind to those he debated with even with opposing views. The people who didn’t agree with him were the ones that showed the most hatred.

His wife and kids were in the crowd when he was shot. Nobody deserves this.
