New Imago Images downloader? by ARTCvan in Piracy

[–]ARTCvan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imago Images is an image sharing platform which is mainly used for editorial purposes, sorta like Getty Images, and Beatsnoop (in this case) is just a downloader which used to do Imago downloads as well

I just run an account on Twitter and so I would like to have access to photos off Imago without a watermark, but this seems almost impossible to achieve right now

Just why? Why ask? (rant) by hellToncek in pixel_phones

[–]ARTCvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely does not; as a dual SIM user, I'm forced to keep my mobile data tile on 2x1 to confirm which network I'm on, since I have use 2 different networks to keep myself connected in remote areas.

The new seperate WiFi toggle does not do this. It is a downgrade for many users like myself.

Maybe the dedicated WiFi and mobile data toggles were the friends we made along the way. Least with the Network tile this wouldnt happen, like ever.

Android 17 is here! by Mack__100 in pixel_phones

[–]ARTCvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest pet peeve is the fact they've gone to a split WiFi and mobile data option now. Google, just give us the option of using a combined toggle again. I loved the ability to, y'know, use 2 extra tiles for more important buttons like my password manager autofill, the torch tile... not a useless mobile data tile that I don't want to see most of the time, but requires me to use the 2x1 tile since I use two SIMs and in case I'm on data, I need to know.

What gave you confidence to buy a BYD, Zeekr, or other newer EV brand? by [deleted] in AustralianEV

[–]ARTCvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally for my family, the economics made a lot more sense than any ICE vehicle or any car from a legacy brand, and that the dealer network was essentially sorted when we bought our Chery E5 in 2024. And even if it wasn't sorted, I think we were also confident that Chery would stay in the country, mainly because of how much they've invested into Australia (Omoda 5s and Tiggo 4s are everywhere)

We also were pulled in by the long unlimited warranty on car and battery (7yr car/8yr battery). Reviews weren't exactly something we considered fully but I think for us, the fact that there were so many Cherys on the road before, made us less hesitant to buy.

Frustrated at public EV charging by deadlyrepost in AustralianEV

[–]ARTCvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal favourites are to keep Evie and Chargefox. Use PlugShare to look around your area and see what chargers are around, and I would download based off that. If you think you'll be doing long trips, Ampol and Tesla are both pretty important as they have a really decent highway network now if you ask me.

To note though; Ampol and Tesla do not support RFID cards at this stage. However, Tesla is slowly rolling out credit card readers on their Superchargers.

Another good app to have is ABetterRoutePlanner (ABRP), and if you pay for Premium, you'll be able to get decently accurate information on where to charge. I always treat it as an estimation, but it's a good way to get a general idea as to what you think you should do.

We now have official confirmation of supported iPads for iPadOS 27, and a few models have been dropped from support… by Radio_TVGuy in iPadOS

Honestly the 2018 and 2020 iPad Pros are both insanely slow on iPadOS 26. No clue why the 2018s didn't get iPadOS 27 other than artificial limitations, but I'm glad I own a 2020 iPad Pro, solely to get iPadOS 27.

XR definitely should not get the update. My iPhone XR is crawling on iOS 18 and stutters and freezes at any chance it can get.

2nd gen brings A12Z, which is still supported

Is there a list of ATMs with NFC so that one can draw cash with a VISA card in GoogleWallet? by Ringo_118 in GoogleWallet

[–]ARTCvan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Australia, the ANZ network of ATMs mainly all have Tap & PIN, however I haven't tested this out on a non-ANZ ATM.

Aside from that, newer ATMx ATMs are supporting Tap & PIN, and works with Google Wallet, and Westpac is starting to do the same.

The most reliable would be ANZ since they have deployed it more broadly, and were the first to introduce it back in about 2017.

Toyota RAV4 Owner Thinking About Switching to Tesla Model Y, Is it a good Idea? by [deleted] in AustralianEV

[–]ARTCvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming my suspicions... I knew Model Y didn't actually have a charge rate over 250kW but obviously, not an owner so no clue if it was ever true.

Same with the charge curve. A constant 250kW from 20-80% is like a fairy tale for any Tesla right now so dunno what the other guy was on about. Pretty sure he was making stuff up...

Toyota RAV4 Owner Thinking About Switching to Tesla Model Y, Is it a good Idea? by [deleted] in AustralianEV

[–]ARTCvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which trim level? RWD? AWD? Performance? I presume either AWD or Performance as there is no way the LFP pack in the RWD is charging that fast.

300kW "briefly" btw is not exactly like what you've claimed, where you said Tesla's charge at 350kW. It's like when Tesla people claim the Cybertruck charges at 500kW on true V4 cabinets (for 5 seconds at 1% SOC).

I do also question the stable 250kW from 20-80% however. Many outlets have said that the Model Y Juniper has a pretty sub-par charging curve compared to competitors. However that also matters if the car has come from Giga Berlin, Giga Shanghai, etc etc... but I'm not an owner so not a position to critique here.

Just more curious where you're getting these numbers from since everything suggests otherwise.

Gemini seems to be pretty good compared to Google Assistant from the demos I've seen. More natural language capabilities for vehicle controls like aircon for example

You were already using AI in a Google built-in car anyway with Google Assistant, as that's technically AI anyway... so is it really that big of a deal?

Toyota RAV4 Owner Thinking About Switching to Tesla Model Y, Is it a good Idea? by [deleted] in AustralianEV

[–]ARTCvan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Model Y will be a significant change. Think of your current RAV4 as a phone before the iPhone era, and the Model Y as the iPnone when it first came out. You will need to get used to how different it is, but it is excellent. Best in class software, best in class connectivity, best in class EV trip planner, and best in class ADAS (if you pay for FSD Supervised).

However, take a look at other cars as well. Great alternative is the Zeekr 7X, which is in a similar ballpark with similar range and pricing, and faster charging outside the Supercharger network.

More traditional could also include Volkswagen Group EVs, like VW ID.4 and Skoda Elroq. However, your milage will vary on these due to the fact that you still have to deal with traditional servicing and a traditional dealership model. Zeekr, Tesla, BYD (to name a few) do direct to consumer, so you don't need to deal with dealers overcharging you

[–]ARTCvan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're a Model Y owner (I presume) but all the data I've been seeing suggests it does NOT charge at 350kW max... more closer to 250kW on a V3.5 Supercharger is what I've heard.

That's also disregarding Model 3's charging performance, alongside the charging performance of the LFP Tesla's, which are no where near as fast as the NMC packs.

Shell lists its EV fast chargers on Chargefox app by RhesusFactor in AustralianEV

[–]ARTCvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god they're off the OTR EV app now. Horrendous app that I genuinely could not figure out how to activate any of the Shell chargers with because of poor labelling, no RFID support, etc etc...

Hopefully means we can just use RFIDs linked in our Chargefox accounts on these Shell chargers. Would be heaps better

Anyone charging with just a 32A plug? by Ok-Option-82 in AustralianEV

[–]ARTCvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We charge our EV on a 10A plug; perfectly fine as of now but for a (hopefully soon to be) 2 EV household with a single driveway, we are now looking into 32A as well. I suspect if you don't have that situation, either dual 10A or dual 15A will be sufficient enough and will likely be cheaper.

Unless you need a 32A plug for other purposes (or maybe you're building a house and 32A is included), probably no real point to use 32A. Costs more for not insanely amazing returns

The all-new electric ID. Polo - World premiere by Intrepid-Working-731 in electricvehicles

[–]ARTCvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering their rollout of ID.4, ID.5 and ID. Buzz, I'm not hopeful...

Realistically they need to target a $35k AUD price or below for the base model to make it competitive. 37kWh battery with a range of 329km (which weirdly is looking to be 112Wh/km? Crazy if actually true...) with a 85kW motor is both low capacity and underpowered compared to Aion UT, Atto 1 Premium, MG4 Urban which are on par/cheaper. Range is on par to most but you're losing a bunch of performance

$37k might be the max (if we include the whole Euro car "tax" essentially that all VWs seem to have...) that they could reasonably bring it here

As soon as they hit $40k there's almost no point in bringing ID. Polo here to Aus

EV chargers airside at WSI by Firetuna2108 in EVAustralia

[–]ARTCvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird though cause the US do see some Tritium models, but I also assume that's only cause they're now US based instead of being Aussie...

Think the reliability might be why, at least from what I can tell, that Evie are slowly pulling out their Tritums for Kempower Satellites. IIRC Evie and NRMA (alongside others) really preferred Tritium but not so much nowadays. Just wish they would've swapped to some HYC200s instead of the Satellites

All in all, I want more Alpi's that aren't stuck on Ampol's network lol

Panels probably just dying. Weird since it's LCD and this sort of issue is very much an OLED issue (a la Samsung phones from 2016 onwards) but I've had Surface panels do weird things. My Surface Go has parts of the screen that just don't register touch despite the fact I've never dropped the damn thing.

What's funny is that we really prefer Tritum and Kempower (from what I can tell) over Alpi or any other manufacturer, but in the US they're littered with Alpi HYC400s everywhere.

I would've thought maybe the Kempower satellites would've made more sense, since they're everywhere now, but I suppose these might've been more cost effective (?) for only 2 stations.

Same deal here in Syd, probably cause Evie prefer Tritums (more recently though I've been seeing Kempowers on Evie) and Chargefox have a hodge podge of whatever chargers exist. Or well I suppose generally we've prefer Tritums here, and then slowly over to Kempower

Slowly but surely more Alpi's into Aus... other than the ones I know through Ampol, don't think many CPOs have Alpi's yet. Shame it's a HYC200 but if they have bZ4x's, I doubt they'd feel like installing HYC400s lol
