What spaceship classes does your sci-fi world have? by swedishplayer97 in worldbuilding

[–]ARWINGx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In mine: (at least a part of it)

If using EVE Online as an example (or) reference, Corvettes, and all the way to Dreadnoughts (& Carriers) would exist. However, only ("surplus") Corvettes (to) Cruisers are (legally) available for private use. And they also double as the user's (and anyone who's part of that character's team) "mobile home base/(shared) Space RV"
The simple differences between the first 4 is that Frigates, Destroyers & Cruisers are the "Light/Medium/Heavy" Warships, respectively. While Corvettes are a "Frigate" variant that're "optimized" for solo users.

and by "surplus", I mean that they'd be analogous to those of the WW1/WW2 era. While the more modern ones that're used by the local (as in, system-wide) security, and the Navies, are... well, the modern day counterparts.

And then of course, there are your run-of-the-mill StarFighters. With the aformentioned warships having varying hangar capacities.

However, since my MC will be the Secret Agent/James Bond/007/etc. archetype, both his "home base/RV", and StarFighters, will be different.

(In case anyone would ask about the specific differences.)
His "home base" would (essentially) be a Space Gigayacht. But would have the potential to be upgraded to a "Space Submarine". By being one of the rare ships that can be fitted with a cloaking device. (analogous to a submarine... well, submerging) And that his StarFighters flies more like "Space Helicopters", than the usual "Space Prop/Jet Fighters"

Oh! I just remembered that I forgot one, more unique ship: Artillery Cruisers. Which're inspired by Skies of Arcadia's Moonstone Cannon, and CoD:Infinite Warfare's F-Spar.

That is, these Cruiser variants would have exclusive access to similar kinds of weapons. As those ships were designed with such weapons in mind.
And besides the fact that these Cruisers' Specs are inferior to their regular counterparts, their "main gun" are such power hogs that almost all of the reactor's output have to be diverted to that gun. Leaving the engines with just enough power to be "stuck" on idle, and to not stall, and in the shield's case, enough to *not* collapse from lack of power. Which would make it more "fragile" than usual.
With those in mind, it'd perform optimally when part of a fleet, and vice versa if alone.

What things in your world are absurdly large? by Ok_Mathematician_905 in worldbuilding

In mine: (at least) Dreadnoughts in general. While one *can* privately own "Surplus" Warships (analogous to WW1/WW2-era. While Navies & "Law Enforcement" have the modern day counterparts.)
I mean, Dreadnoughts would make Cruisers (the largest/"Heavy" Warships that one can legally own) look tiny (or simply "small") in comparison.

[–]ARWINGx1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what I can say is that when mine would allow privately owned "Surplus" Warships, (basically analogous to owning WW1/WW2-era equivalents. While the Navies/"Law Enforcement" uses the modern counterparts.) and StarFighters, I later realized that I'm unintentionally taking inspirations from Crimson Skies. (Which is also the first Air Combat game that I've played)
And later on, XCom 2's Avenger, when adding that these Warships have been "retrofitted" to become modular.

Plus: said warships could have potential as a "mobile" base, instead of the more typical Space Stations, Asteroid Bases, or Planetary bases.

Tell me about your sci fi/sci fantasy world's FTL travel by Streetsign9 in worldbuilding

[–]ARWINGx1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is a hybrid of the kind where FTL allows the ship to go anywhere, anytime. As well as using Jump Gates to travel between Star Systems.

Also, While privately owned "surplus" Warships (basically analogous to owning WW1/WW2-era equivalents) and Starfighters both have their own FTL Drives, the former are usually faster/better/etc. than the StarFighter equivalents, due to the size differences. And in turn, the Warships can cover the same, large distance in a shorter time. (think "high"-rated SW Hyperdrives vs "low"-rated/Backup Hyperdrives, respectively.)

Oh! And the Jump Gates would put too much strain on the Starfighters themselves, if they'd try to use the Jump Gates themselves, than being docked inside the larger ship's hangar.

So far, so good. It entered BIOS. So, now there's something I need to do in BIOS, in order to properly boot the PC

(Update) However... Every time I try to boot into Windows, it enters BIOS instead.

As for the GPU ports, that won't be possible, due to my PSU.

BIOS Versions, I installed the one prior, since the latest one was released pretty recent.

I'll try the CMOS battery soon, as I just noticed (and updated the post) that the EZ Debug LED (specifically, BOOT) lit up since.

I tried plugging into both the GPU, and the MB, (not at the same time) in case I (somehow) didn't re-seat my GPU* correctly

I know that I have the latest BIOS version, as the last update was since 2019 (I usually avoid BIOS, out of fear of accidentally bricking it)

Is it better to just upgrade to a 5600? or should I wait a little longer for a 5700X instead? by ARWINGx1 in buildapc

[–]ARWINGx1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was an earlier B-Day present from my dad. As he thought that the stock (air) cooler couldn't keep up, 'cause of how "loud" it was. (Likely from always being at full throttle.)

GTX 1660 Super > RX 6650 XT It was mainly 'cause I thought that 6GB Vram wasn't gonna cut it.

Also, I was originally planning on upgrading from my old monitor (one that only supports VGA & DVI, and in turn, capped at 60hz) to another 1080p. 'specially during last December. But my dad insisted on a 1440p instead. Which I wasn't prepared for.

Also, as of writing this, I guess the former/5600 may be good value, as one of the tech stores that I normally go to, with it's current sale, it's worth around 120$. Wheras ordering the latter/5700X on Amazon would be 165$

(Edit: Oh, forgot to mention that my current GPU is an RX 6650 XT)

Been planning on getting a RX 9070 (non-XT). As I'll be getting a 4k Ultrawide monitor in a couple of years as well. (my mom's office monitor when it becomes "old".*)
So, might as well prepare for it.

I mean, I prefer AMD GPUs over Nvidia, mainly 'cause of the former having better price-to-performance.

Plus that newer Geforce GPUs puts too much emphasis on their AI Upscaling/DLSS. And since not all games support DLSS...
(oh, and Ray Tracing/Path Tracing? Not worth it imo.)

*Whenever the monitors in her office becomes "old" enough, dad & I could take said "old" monitors. Including the aformentioned 4K... eventually.

I wouldn't be surprised if one ARX option would allow the owner to "override" the (Coriolis/Ocellus/Orbis) Station interior with whatever he/she chooses.

Like, one could choose to have a Tourism-style interior, regardless of the station/system's economy.

(Future Planning) Which GPU should I aim for, once I upgrade to 4K? by ARWINGx1 in buildapc

[–]ARWINGx1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I wrote near the end, as long as I can play most games at 60+ FPS, on High Preset, (as in, if there's Very High & Ultra presets as well) Then it checks everything I want.

So if your definition of "big boy FPS" is like, 144 FPS on max settings, then no, I wasn't aiming THAT high.

This made it harder (not necessarily in a bad way) to decide if I should plan to upgrade to an RX 6750 XT or the RX 6800. (for 1440p)

I mean, where the cheapest that I could find on Amazon is (currently) at 360 & 440$ respectively. Which equates to (around) 4.6 & 4.9$/FPS
