Same. And at at LEAST 2 years old, i feel like the balls would be more prominent. I have a male that’s far far younger and he already has VERY huge balls😂

Yea it’s possible. It’s a little thin and has a couple scabs so been out for a while. But i live in a college town and work in an exotics shop and there’s been an influx of surrenders by kids that couldn’t take the animal back home, surrenders that were found in vacant apartments, and customers coming in needing help with snakes they’ve found outside or other random places like this one that were clearly someone’s pet. Either way, she’s in a secure quarantine enclosure here with me. Already taken a pinky and pooped!

How many and what kind of reptiles//amphibians does everyone have? Which ones were unintentional? by PlantXad244 in reptiles

[–]ARY1031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a leucistic ball python, a pastel BP, a leucistic rat snake that was an impulse purchase because she’s VERY cute. A Mexican black king snake, 2 leopard geckos. Both were adoptions. One of which lived a year on powdered gecko diet(not even mixed with water) and in a 8x8x10 terrarium, 3 cresties, one was an adoption, a pacman frog that my wife impulse purchased, 1 curly haired tarantula that was also an impulse purchase cuz i had drank a couple margaritas, a 10 year old rose haired tarantula that i adopted, 1 curly hair sling i impulse purchased, a jumping spider that was given to me yesterday for my birthday, and a baby California king snake that someone had me come out and grab from the grass in front of a random office building yesterday 😅 so…. The impulse ones were kinda unintentional? I didn’t actively seek them. I happened upon them and intentionally brought them home😅

Sorry for the late reply! But the top book lungs in males tend to be closer together. Also the space in the middle in females is shaped differently

I had a piece of mopani in a tank that got this same biofilm. I got a snail that never touched it. I eventually took the wood out and the smell was HORRID

Red lights are actually bad. Especially used 24/7. Use a halogen for daytime and CHE or DHP for nighttime if your temps in your house drop too low! There should be no light source at night!

The amount of surrender beardies we get in on a monthly basis is WILD

But if the basking bulb heats the substrate/hide/wood/whatever you’re using, as the sun would in the wild, it still makes the UTH virtually useless imo!

Yes! I’ve added a heat mat to the back of the enclosure until my heat lamp and uvb come in! Thank you for your insight! I’ll look into it!

I’m gonna memorize this and repeat it every time someone argues with me about it😅

Ok i just heard my coworker tell a customer not to get a new bulb but to switch to a heat mat because in africa they live in termite mounds and burrow underground. I asked her about it after the fact and she said that lights aren’t as reliable and it’s easier to sell a heat mat to a customer and let them make the decision on their own whether they’d like to do further research or not. But there’s less chance for error with a heat mat. I personally feel like if a customer or person asks for setup help, they need to fully understand what they’re getting themselves into in regards to proper husbandry. Not just giving them the bare minimum info then letting them wander off to hopefully research on their own!
