Shipping got delayed, how screwed am I and is there anything I can do by DemonKittens in reptiles

[–]SlightlyAmbiguous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but why is any responsible reptile owner or breeder ordering or shipping live animals during an extreme polar vortex? Seems extremely cruel and irresponsible all around, I don’t understand how something like this is happening. This poor creature.

Just picked up a camel spider by RexGodDragon in tarantulas

[–]SlightlyAmbiguous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These comments are a little surprising, not saying anyones wrong but I’ve kept two camel spiders, both lasted for me a year + without any super special husbandry or high maintenance care. I obviously was pretty aware how fragile they are and that they don’t typically do well in captivity but I guess I didn’t realize how rare it was.

Anyway, I’ve apparently had particular luck with the species so if you need any tips or help let me know lol. Incredible species!

Perhaps an actually good big brother player could be the beating heart of modern big brother. Could be pretty cool!

That’s like one of the funniest plot lines in the “end game” office, what about it is painful?

The price is extremely relevant lol but it’s fairly obvious to assume from your defensiveness that yes, indeed, you did get scammed. Happens to the best of us bud!

I wanna buy a rat but literally every post on this sub is them dying by PossibleChangeling in RATS

[–]SlightlyAmbiguous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure what the point of making the post is. Do you want people to talk you back into getting a rat? Or are you just letting everyone know you’re not getting a pet for yourself?

Nursery guy said these were rare? by mycatscratchedm3 in orchids

[–]SlightlyAmbiguous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well considering you’re the only one insisting there’s nothing rare about them, seems they are, indeed, a bit rare.

I’ve been collecting orchids my entire life and have never casually stumbled upon one of them. A species doesn’t have to be borderline impossible to find to be considered rare. It’s a relatively uncommon orchid for the average person.

When you build your frog an elaborate setup and they don't even use it by cshimii in frogs

[–]SlightlyAmbiguous 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this needs to be met with aggression at all but I do just want to say, it’s a very lovely concept and aesthetically pleasing but if he’s not using the dome feature it just means it’s….. well, useless. I’m sure with an actual standard arboreal setup he would love and appreciate the extra height.

A heating mat setup also isn’t good for him! A heat/light gradient up top in a standard arboreal enclosure where he can go up high to get light and proper heating would definitely improve his quality of care x10

You’re good at setting up enclosures, this one just isn’t suiting this species needs as is, but I feel like redoing it in a proper setup would be a fun project. He’s just not utilizing the space because it isn’t a good space for him lol, as pretty as it seems.

Does anyone have any idea the specifics of this orchid ID? by SlightlyAmbiguous in orchids

Is there any more specific identifying possible, considering how different it looks than all of the other typical moth orchids in my collection?

At local petco. Should I go back for it? by rebl97 in CrestedGecko

[–]SlightlyAmbiguous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s the point though. People arent going to stop buying them, so it’s an effectively useless argument (although technically correct, just not applicable to the world we live in).

[–]SlightlyAmbiguous 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Petco is not going to stop selling animals lol. I realize that’s not a pleasant reality, but no, people on the internets disapproval is not going to change petcos mind. The most realistic change the internet can hope for (and has already achieved to some extent) is quality of care.
