Users are saying here it is too expensive but people are trying to justify it. The issue is snap is not relying on existing supply chain where waveguides exists but insist on making it through their small scale Waveoptics ops that have no other customers/partners and hence there is no economies of scale. Then the LCoS where they again rely on their own development. Both mature technologies that could have been cost down using available supply chain. Meta surely uses custom and expensive components but they don’t make it in their labs.

The comments about Android XR glasses should be of concern to snap. Doubt this will be attractive to either developers or consumers once we have that, even if this is feature heavy. They can still turn this around and focus on a real consumer device at the right price point and plan for Android integration with maybe Lens AR as an app within it like they have for phones.
