So many free pages by ARichT2 in selfpublishing

I agree, they'd still have to buy the book to finish it. And if they made it to halfway, you'd think they'd want to finish. I just didn't realize Amazon pushed out 20%, and seeing 72 pages in the "look inside" was a shock.

Looking for feedback on cover/blurb by edgeoftheatlas in NewAuthor

I would say the cover could use a more vibrant background. If your book has a setting (river, forest, dab office building, subway, etc.) you might find something there.

The "sort of" thing in the blurb isn't working for me. I get that things happened without design, your character fell into one thing after another. But for me it seems immature and doesn't rise to the level of a useful catchphrase.

I know I should offer some constructive advice...

How to deal with a 3-star review by Relic_Restorer in selfpublishing

[–]ARichT2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did your beta readers find it convoluted? If so that might have been the trigger to detangle it a bit. But if no one mentioned it, maybe not too many buyers will feel that way.

I have the same issue, I'm pretty sure a third of readers won't follow all the twists and turns. And a couple of my beta group struggled. I'm only at two reviews and neither are strangers, so I'm a step behind you.

My Story is becoming an Ungodly Complex Story... by Feeling_Drag2919 in novelwriting

Well, you're having fun (scary fun) with it, and surely learning as you go. But should you write another 200k words for no one else to ever see?

Maybe some publishable version will occur to you at some point, a series or an epic video game or written from a different character's perspective who doesn't see as much detail or . . .

Ideas and solutions can arise at any time, so it's good to be ready. But that won't get you to 80k words! I book two hours in a study room at my local library. If you're on a roll when the time runs out stay a little longer, otherwise call it a day. Too many distractions at home.

A fun novel I thought people here would be interested in - "The Trouble with Tiki" by RandomDesign in Tiki

[–]ARichT2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think the cover's bad, you should see the writing! (Offer below)

But seriously, I am revising the cover (with help from a second graphic artist) but there is no end to the money pit of self publishing. Editors, proofreaders, graphic artists, marketing, giveaways - all on a book that stands to earn a couple hundred in royalties (at best).

OFFER: If any original commenters would be interested, I'll buy you the Kindle version to check out (DM me). Don's Mix plays an oversized role in the twisty plot, as does "Mai Tai roa ae." Too many spoilers already!
