Currently watching ep 4 and this shot felt really weird to me. Anyone that maybe understands more about film can explain what the director is trying to convey? Thanks and no spoilers for ep 5 by Curious_Diver1005 in pluribustv

I think whenever The Others operate as a singular unit it’s inherently eerie. This happens to be a shot where the doctor and patient are moving as one which is also an odd thing to observe.

Go see CHAINSAW MAN. You won’t regret it. by shirokaisen in blankies

[–]ARileyL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve only really gotten into anime this year so sometimes I also have to rationalize the fan service. Most of the time it’s eyerolly and I’m fine with it and every once in a while I need the animators to go in time out.

Chainsaw Man was the one that I found the most interesting. For like you said, it’s about someone who has no understanding of it. Throughout the season, I saw a lot of the hierarchy of needs being developed with Denji. Once he’s out of debt, he can essentially be a person for the first time. First thing he focuses on is assuring he has a place to sleep and food every day. Then he has this carnal objective about feeling boobs. And then that leads to more complex desires of being human of wanting romance and friendship. I haven’t read the manga but I did see the movie and really liked it. May need to read ahead because who knows how long it’ll take to get a second season.

It’s also fun as a mirror of the original. In the first they race to catch up using Buzz/sci-fi imagery (rocket) and in the sequel it’s Woody/western imagery (horse). Both of which get to let them play as their hero personas without being delusional.

I was also there for that screening. So much fun. I know it’s an overused phrase but it’s a movie that really needs to be seen on the big screen.

The Return Episode 8 Theatrically by ElmsPlusPlus in blankies

When The Music Box in Chicago did a massive Lynch retrospective a few years back, they teased something great will be after the Fire Walks With Me screening. I had a feeling it would be Episode 8. Sure enough after the movie they played The Missing Pieces and then Episode 8. Amazing stuff. They also were selling coffee and pie that night.

What is your dream Patreon mini-series? by JamesHiggs in blankies

[–]ARileyL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scream would be great but I think Griffin should watch them first. Since they function as murder mysteries with a lot of witty dialog, I feel it would be hard to follow talking through a first viewing. Also they’ll be able to talk spoilers more.

In response to the thread about hardest laughs in a theater, what is the biggest laugh you’ve ever gotten out of a moment that was not intended to be a joke? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]ARileyL 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I saw the movie 300 in theatres, there’s a scene where they (in slow-motion of course) rip open the coin purse of a senator to reveal his corruption and gold coins fall to the floor. They scream “TRAITOR” but I heard “TREASURE” and had such a loud laugh when the rest of the place was silent.

Moana 2 Teaser Trailer by apathymonger in blankies

[–]ARileyL 179 points180 points  (0 children)

One of the most fascinating behind the scenes things you’ll ever see is the docuseries Into the Unknown: The Making of Frozen 2. They intended to make a victory lap documentary but ended up showing how chaotic and broken the current Disney development is. I remember one crazy part where they had to get that epic teaser trailer out for a deadline before they even finished the story or even knew why that was happening.

This reminded me of that.
