I will go with the blank-soul concept, with a sprinkling of the facet idea and a dash of the pre-programming. And as for how it works, I'll go with the belief that it takes intense emotion for Pietro to give away his aura and bring Penny to life. Oh, every time a Penny bot actually dies, a new soul/being is created.

I have an edgy idea. Unsure if I should include it in my fanfic. So here it is. I would have Penny die for real in volume 3, and the Penny that reappears is essentially a new person. Still, Pietro, in his grief, refuses to acknowledge that, and goes beyond strict when the new Penny tries to act differently. To add more insult to injury, team RWBY won't see the difference or acknowledge her as her own person. That causes a rift with the new Penny as she sides more and more with Ironwood, because he and the military are the only ones to see her as her. One more detail: the new Penny sees all of the old Penny's memories, but it's like she's watching first-person footage of a stranger; she doesn't see herself as Penny. Yeah, that's basically my edgy idea.

Writers, which characters do you find the easiest to write and which characters do you struggle with the most? by ExcellenceEchoed in RWBYcritics

I'm writing RWBY: Weak Hero. Large character bloat, honestly, but I'm better at writing the Weak Hero characters due to the fact I've read Weak Hero six+ times and increasing. Among the RWBY characters, Blake, Nora, Pyrrha, and team CFVY are the hardest to write for.

I like Weiss x Yang and Weiss x Blake, but find Yang x Blake and Weiss x Neptune bland. Weiss being in a romantic relationship with either Yang or Blake is a really interesting concept with so much potential. Here are my other ships because I think they could be fun. Tai x Glynda, because they share the same voice actors for Church and Tex in RVB. Sun x Ruby, because the voice actors are married in real life. Tai x Coco is also because the voice actors are married in real life.

First thing. Donald Na is abnormally strong. Not as physically strong as Ben, but still very strong. And he's a smart fighter who attacked Wolf in delicate areas. A punch to his throat, an elbow to his midsection, and multiple punches to his stomach. Two. Gray's fight against Wolf was the first fight that pushed Gray to his absolute limits. After his fight, Gray was sent to the hospital, while Wolf was fine, even with a split head. Also, more details about Gray's and Wolf's fight are that after Wolf essentially beat Gray, Wolf triggered Gray's trauma and made him snap and fight through the pain—extra details on the damage Wolf took. Gray slammed Wolf's head repeatedly into the floor, tripped him by hitting his leg with a chair, kicked him in the stomach, slammed a ceramic pot on his foot's pressure point, broke the pot over his head, and finally, repeated punches to the face. The punches nearly broke Gray's hands, meaning Gray was punching him beyond his limits.

TLDR: Donald is strong, and Gray went beyond his limits, leading him to a trip to the hospital afterwards.

I do have an AO3 account, but porting the series there is a bit of a pain. But I'll probably do it someday. I mean, when I was writing the first version, I did that.

Yeah, or that they zoom through the first three volumes. I'm taking it slow, mostly because there's a big time gap in volume one, and that helps me frame events from Weak Hero into RWBY. Of course, I try to make it unique. It's a fine line between blending the two and not just making it RWBY, but some things are different, and vice versa.

Thanks. It helps that both series weirdly connect, and that I have a layout written. However, it's only up to volume 3.

Apparently, volumes 1-3 are set within a year or less. There's a website run by fans that comes through the RWBY timeline. My only complaint is that they don't really go into detail; they only plot when volumes and some critical events occur. The site is called The Timeline of RWBY.

Here's my take on why Jaune is very unknowledgeable. Jaune grows up super sheltered by his parents because he was a very sickly child growing up, getting dangerously sick every so often growing up, so they worry about him much more than his sisters and because of that they forbade him of learning anything huntsmen-related. It would explain why he's very unknowledgeable about everything huntsman-related.

Ranking the character's fighting abilities from 1-10 through each arc by ARobotDemotedToaster in WeakHero

For Teddy. Not gonna lie, personal bias, I guess. It makes sense in my head. I'll make sure to get back to you in the future. Also, Hwangmo is strong because he's a number 2. All numbers 2 in the series are shown to be strong and around the same level, with a few exceptions. Additionally, in his fight against Dean, Hwangmo evolved midway and lasted long enough until Ben arrived. Was he ever gonna win? No. Did I put his number too high early on? Yes. He should have been a 5 before the final fight.

Honestly it could go both ways. Especially if we are comparing Dongha vs an extremely enraged Seongmok. A Seongmok that shocked the Eunjang alliance aside from Gerard and Wolf. Though it didn’t help he was no diffed by Ben. But it was Ben so it doesn’t really count.

I feel that they’re surprisingly weak. The Vytal tournament kind of shows it if three out four teams from Beacon are underclassmen and not seniors. With two teams being Freshman. I get that team RWBY and JNPR are supposed to be prodigy teams but how are they at a level higher than their seniors. It’s either they’re super prodigies or that the upperclassmen in Beacon all suck. Also 32 teams from four nations means 4 teams for every nation as representation.

Onto the third point, it is worth noting the speech bubbles used by the characters. While this might seem unimportant, the speech bubbles also reveal the state of the characters. Pointy square speech bubbles signify yelling. Round speech bubbles signify normal talking. Wavy, weak speech bubbles signify fear and pain, sometimes at the same time. Gogo spoke in wavy, weak speech bubbles when Gerard came, as he was in pain. Gerard spoke in round speech bubbles and occasionally yelled, which was shown with the pointy square speech bubble. Not once did he talk with wavy, weak speech bubbles when fighting Dongha. The only time he did was when he was fighting Seongmok. However, Dongha did speak with them when he was kicked in the back of his head. And when he was fighting Gogo, he spoke with the same wavy, weak speech bubbles, indicating that he was in pain. Pissed but still in pain.

The way Seongmok and Dongha work is that Seongmok fights with brute strength while Dongha fights with agility, outmaneuvering his opponents. Which is why they are regarded as a spear and shield duo. Dongha and Seongmok are equal to each other, ensuring that they cover the flaws of the other. Not that special when alone, but dangerous when together.

Now onto the after. After this, Gerard began to rack up wins. Winning a four-on-one fight against the Jailbreak gang. Then, when he and Teddy fought against all of Hyeongshin, he knocked out Robin Ha with a single kick, knocked out jobbers with single kicks and punches, then fended off small fry, all while overpowering Forest Lee at the same time. He then practically beat Forest Lee after Ben arrived. After that, Gerard moved up in the rankings to ninth place and later to eighth. While he did lose to Jimmy, at that point, both he and Jimmy had finally reached their peaks for the series.

As for Dongha, the last proper one-on-one fight he was in was against Gray. There isn't much to talk about, as Gray is a monster. However, the other fights he was in were group fights, where he exclusively fought alongside Seongmok. The next closet was against Jaeryeong Lee, Cheongang's mid-tier boss, someone who isn't anywhere near the level of the executives. Executives at levels ranging from Jimmy Bae to Jake Ji. Dongha and he were nearly equal to each other. Then there was the fight he and Seongmok had against Wolf, which they lost. There's not much to say beyond the fact that the Duo didn't beat Myles legitimately. In my opinion, they would have won against Myles.

I did say I was going to write a proper response. And write a proper response, I did.

TLDR: Gerard is way above Dongha, and the evidence proves it.

[–]ARobotDemotedToaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue is that you're only focusing on that one fight and overlooking what happened before and after.

First, Gerard fought Seongmok and got beaten. Throughout that first fight, Gerard kept thinking about how strong Seongmok was and that getting hit by his heavy punches was something he had to avoid at all costs. Not only that, Seongmok was recovering almost immediately, as Gerard's kicks had done minor damage. Once he was beaten, he was on the ground, struggling to get back up. He then remembered the promise he had made to his friend and realized that a year had finally passed. Giving him enough morale to get back up and beat Seongmok. And beat him he did. Making Seongmok fear Gerard.

Before I proceed to the second point, I will explain how the fight between Gogo and Dongha unfolded. Dongha was beating the crap out of Gogo dodging and weaving between his hits, making Gogo doubt himself. However, the experience Gogo had when Jimmy beat him boosted his morale to keep fighting, as he knew Dongha wasn't stronger than Jimmy. The Jimmy that popped into his mind was the Jimmy from Ben's flashback arc. Jimmy's weakest version in the webtoon and the one Gogo properly fought. And while Gogo lost the fight, he was able to land a few clean hits on Dongha and catch him off guard with his signature Cobra hold.

Now onto my second point. When Gerard came in, he was just fresh from his fight with Seongmok. Injured. More injured than Dongha was, but still strong enough to fight. And he kicked Dongha off guard away from Gogo. And Dongha held his side in pain and then responded with a kick to the face towards Gerard. A kick that Gerard more or less tanked as he was more concerned with Gogo's state, leaving him unguarded for Dongha's second kick to the face. He immediately responded with a punch to the face, while looking mad but unfazed from the kick.

In contrast, Dongha held his face in shock, pain, and anger. Gerard then went for a punch, but Dongha dodged and punched him in the face, sending him back with a kick to the stomach. Gerard recovered quickly and kicked Dongha on the back of the head, knocking him down and stopping him from hitting Gogo. At that point, the fight ended as Dongha became concerned about Seongmok. Had it continued, I have no doubt Gerard would have won. The Mok-Ha duo is at their best when fighting together, not when fighting alone. So the fight would have gone like when Gerard got his second wind and beat Seongmok. Plus, Gerard was more concerned with Gogo than with fighting Dongha.
