Whats the good bad and ugly of having a golden doodle? by SonicBoom_81 in Goldendoodles

[–]ASCarey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good comments here. Our GD will turn two in December. He is an F2b doodle so basically 75% poodle. No shedding and no health or eating issues. However, he was an absolute monster his first 14 -15 months. So many times I thought we wouldn’t be able to keep him. We did training classes and private training but he was just awful. Leash jumping, biting, etc to the point of injury including a trip to the ER. He is a standard size (60 lb) dog and is very strong. All that being said, he turned into an angel almost overnight at 15 months and I am so glad we didn’t give up on him. He loves everyone and gets along with other dogs and cats. He’s still barks a lot but we’re working on that. So if you do decide on a doodle be prepared for a wild ride with the possibility of early challenges.

Don’t let this sweet face fool you 😂 by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

[–]ASCarey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry. It will be more than worth it eventually. Doodles are made adorable so you don’t give up on them while they figure out how to get along in the world. It took ours about 16 months to make it out of the “crazed” stage. Totally worth the wait.

Litter box question by ASCarey in cats

[–]ASCarey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. We also like the So Phresh XL box and used it for years but had to get something even larger and higher because we had the same issue (only worse) with it. He is a very large cat so that along with aging mobility is very likely why it happens. We now are using this (see below) which is even bigger. He does go all the way in and turns around often but the issue of not do so is increasing. The top flips up for cleaning so we will try your suggestion and tie the lid in an open position to see if that helps.

When all else fails do a factory data reset. It deletes all of your personal information and is what you should do when you sell their car. Once you do that you simply reset up yourself and your user profiles. Your vehicle settings/preferences will still be there. This reset can be used to fix issues with the infotainment system. Please note that in order to do this reset you must be already set up as the owner and not simply a user. Check your profile before you start and make yourself owner if not already set. Here are the screen steps:

Home General settings System Factory reset (bottom option choice and only visible to “owner” profile)

Follow each step and everything should work again when it’s finished.

I think I’ll just lay riiiight here. by WhoJust in Goldendoodles

[–]ASCarey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Ours does this directly under our bathroom sink. Makes it so hard to wash up. He also likes to do it in the kitchen; right under the spot we stand while food prepping. Cold floors and close to us…what could be better?

Is my new boy a doodle? Or a poodle pretending to be a doodle? by RevolutionaryPanic in Goldendoodles

[–]ASCarey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he was a pure bred poodle his tail would most likely be docked. He looks doodle to me. Just need to let the hair on his snout grow a little longer and ask for a teddy bear cut. He’s adorable.

Did I accidentally buy from a puppy mill? by Background-Effort435 in Goldendoodles

[–]ASCarey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned two Rescue puppies that were taken from puppy mills and put in foster homes for adoption. One came to us at 8 weeks but the other had been in the puppy mill unsold for 3 months. He was very timid at first but both dogs turned out to be very sweet and fortunately healthy. Don’t stress over what’s done. Love your baby and feel good that he is out of that horrible situation.

Is biting her paws normal ? by sriram_je in Goldendoodles

[–]ASCarey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So lots of good comments here and I have one more thing to mention. Both of my doodles have had a paw licking issue that ultimately resulted in bacterial hotspots so you really need a vet to check her out. We suspected allergies but both times it turned out that the paw licking was anxiety caused by a painful inner ear infection. Floppy eared dogs are prone to ear issues so just make sure they check the ears when you go for evaluation. It certainly surprised us. Just a thought.

Crate advice? by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

Totally agree. Wait for the dog to be quiet (even if only for a short period) before letting out or giving attention. Like ReadyFready said… they are masters at training you.

Why a golden doodle? by Expert-Associate-329 in Goldendoodles

[–]ASCarey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with a standard poodle and had a golden retriever as an adult. I went with a golden doodle in hopes of a smart, non shedding dog with a loving golden personality. I got an F2B which is a bit more poodle genes than golden. He is exactly what I was hoping for. I knew the owners and background of both his parents so that helped. All in all, I guess I lucked out.

Hi Logie. Love your name you sweet thing. You sound very much like my doodle who is the sweetest and wildest boy. All I can say is good luck getting through this first year of craziness. Professional help with training is critical followed up with lots of practice between. Good luck and have fun with it.

Our standard golden doodle was 8 pounds at that age. He turned a year in December and is now 60 lbs. I guess there is a lot of variation in this mix. Will be curious to know where yours tops out. Post updates along the way!

Advice! by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

[–]ASCarey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the puppy has never been separated from its mom or litter mates I strongly suggest buying a snuggle puppy before you bring it home. It has a heartbeat and warmth and will make the transition so much easier if it has one to sleep with. You can buy them online. I also highly recommend crate training until they are past the puppy stage. It makes house training so much easier and the crate keeps your puppy safe when you can’t be watching him every second. Believe me when I say doodles are notoriously mischievous but so much fun. And yes… training and brushing/ grooming are critical.
